I went to trouble of messing with the solenoid before realizing it is probably this same issue! After sparks flew I wish I saw this video before the last!
Great information so thanks for putting out a video showing how to fix it. This just happened to me on my 700 Yamaha Rhino as I was trying to winch a fallen tree out of my driveway. Now I know how to fix it.
Pretty sure this is my problem too. When I winch in it makes a noise which sounds like gears slipping, so I'm thinking I'm caught in the sweet spot (or crappy spot) between free-spool and engaged. Gonna try this out tomorrow night. Thanks for the great video man!
Good video, exactly the problem i had, and couldnt find a solution anywhere until i found this video. I was just preparing to completly tear apart the winch. Saved me a lot of time, congrats, you have a new subscriber.
Been mad at my winch since the first time I used it 4-5 years ago so I basically quit using it unless needed , I knew the cause and have field fixed it with a pocket knife … not ideal but it worked , I will do some filing and maybe get some use out of it now haha
I've heard this issue is caused by a shipping bolt that is often not removed from the bottom of the winch , my winch is doing the exact same thing and low and behold that shipping bolt was never removed when the dealer installed my winch , I haven't tested mine yet but I'm going to file those tabs down like you did , just curious if your shipping bolt is still in your winch its dead center under the winch drum should be a Phillips head and mine was pretty bent up from the winch line hitting it Great video!

Hey Brendan, were you able to fix your issue? I’ve got a 2020 outlander and am having the same problem... winch motor turns but not engaging.

Great. That's why I put it on. Thanks man
Thanks You, I just faced the same problem with mine, glad you told us about the two pieces you filed down! I'll give it a try! Thanks again!
Thanks you🙌

Great video!
My winch on my Argo failed the same way. Thanks.
Only tip I could give us show us where the snap ring is
This is gotta be what’s happening with mine. Thanx.
Thank you. Life saver
