  • Update: Thanks to @Groove81TV for letting us all know about TUBE ROCKWOOL! Check it out! This will make the construction so much easier!
My DIY tube bass traps were inspired by TubeTraps - an invention by acoustical guru Arthur Noxon. I needed to put some small sleek bass traps in my booth, so my design focuses on bass trap characteristics, but please do learn how Arthur Noxon’s original TubeTrap works since his are also able to control the reflection of sound in your studio.

You got the idea reversed. You need to have hollow tubes of fiberglass. So a cilinder of fiberglass and nothing inside with the ends closed up. This empty space with air trapped inside is what is supposedly makes the tube traps very efficient in absorbing the lows. Then you could add a thin lining on one side which would reflect the highs while letting the lows pass through into the trap.

Does the furniture batting have any acoustical value? I’ve got some polyester acoustic batting here, so I don’t really need to worry about fibre glass irritants. Do you need to worry about reflections on cardboard?
