I like that they follow the old woodworkers rule... "keep your long stuff long"...
Now if they could just keep it wide too.
@@jimmydough407 .. we used to get our lumber surface two sides and we had to straight edge it ourselves. it came random widths..
This is a top notch gathering. Most of the folks gathered would have fit right in with the people I grew up with.
We were standing at the end of that log as Jake milled it and you could feel the moisture coming out of that log .
A lot of the houses that were built in the gulf states in the 1800's and early 1900's are still around because of rot resistant cypress. those people gathered to watch because they get to witness a part of History, once that wood is gone you will never see it again, truly a great conservation effort. Thank you for the video...
Yep, made of unobtainable wood.
Termites don't like it as well.
Lot's of cypress out there. It's growing in 15 states and planted in many other places. It's far from gone.
@@treemanclint2883 But this looks like old growth cypress, not something planted or rooted in the last hundred years. We have more trees growing in the US today than we’re growing when the first white settlers landed on these shores. But they are very different trees. But yeah, cypress isn’t like the redwoods where they cut down trees that were several hundred years old. Those we will never replace.
@@Bill_N_ATX I still cut trees every day with fine growth patterns. I never get why people only think fine wood came from virgin forest. What I've personally observed is a very high level of defects and degraded material in the old growth, so much so it doesn't justify the slight difference in wood appearance between a tree that has been suppressed verses and nominal growth rate trees. You are seeing a difference in growth rate because the weather has improved for a more favorable growing season in the past one hundred years. I see trees still in foliage almost 2 months longer now than I did fifty years ago so that has obviously been a positive for tree growth.
Welcome to the real America, hard working people who enjoy the freedom and feeling that they can make a difference for other hard working Americans. God Bless America
Well said
Agreed 👍
You should travel to other countries.
That pecan was absolutely amazing!
I am amazed at how well that Woodmizer cuts with as much shaking that it has on the unsupported cantilevered side
I sure would love to visit this mill one day. This was some of the most beautiful wood I have ever seen, and the food looked just as good.
Thank you very much!
Wow! A whole lot of things contained in this well thought out video, Nathan. Besides the logs, saws and equipment, there was lots to learn, the camaraderie of fellow sawyers, and the dedication to one of the brotherhood. Can’t imagine axe cutting that huge cypress, must have taken days. Imagine a load of cypress lumber on the flat bottom steamships headed to markets up north back in the 1800’s.
setting up in forests to grow new super tall trees for the future milling and building is what deserves attention. beautiful lumber and logs.
can you imagine what it was like before motors, electric and diesel? I know they had water power but you still had to get the logs there and transport the finished product.. this saw mill is just amazing..
but your saw mill is still my favorite.. LOL..
i was a sawyer.loved it best job i ever had
I’ve never ran a sawmill and don’t know what I’m looking at but that was some beautiful wood!
Your videos set the gold standard, Thanks.
in this video, I only saw one guy with a beer.. what the heck is gong on down there in the south? LOL...
boy you have to admit, that is one beautiful spot for a saw mill.. out in the middle of the woods, it doesn't get much better than that.. all you need at that point is a beer..
Great job Nathan , thanks for putting this video all together for us. That's an awesome place to go. Fred.
Looks like a great time plus beautiful slabs, those will bring in some good money and someone will make something beautiful with it. Thank you for another great video.
now that was a great video.. they even had the wives and kids out there at the end.. what a really beautiful part of the country, thank you sir for the video and all your content. yours is one of my favorite channels on youtube.. I never miss a video, I have the bell notification.. LOL..
*Beautiful wood*
One of your best videos ....
Always a great time to do a recap
Imagine, a community of people with similar interests hanging out for a weekend. No multiply that by the factor of honest, hard working men and women
Looks like most of them are drinking coffee and doing nothing.
Yup and I get to join in on the internet (would be a lot more fun to actually be there). I am 74 and get to watchin these on Y T and that motivates me to get out there and fire up the ol LT40 Super. I have kinfolk in South Georgia (Milledgeville area) and next time I get down that area I have to look Jakes operation up. Great people and work ethic.
You mean a club?
Looks like everyone had some laughs and ate well. Beautiful wood.
I’d love to have some of that QS sinker to build a hunt board or plantation desk with. That’s some beautiful stuff. Enjoyed the video, Nathan, thanks for taking us along.
A three legged bench or table will always sit solid. That’s why milking stools have three legs.
Thanks 👍
The axe cut log is very cool
Yes sir
26:09 wild color there. Almost orange.
Mr. Nathan, Thank You for this wonderful vid, nice to see big wood worked,
Glad you enjoyed it
Nothing like a good log
One of the best videos on RUclips.
I’m probably a bit biased working in the lumber industry for the last 30 years
Appreciate it
Not surprised to see my childhood neighbor, Jeff Brokaw, there.
Beautiful pecan ❤
Thank you! 😊
There is a fella in Georgia who can do 4' logs on a homemade band mill out of 5 forklifts. He cuts wood for old wood yachts and ships.
Interesting
He's over in Southwest Georgia. Huge homemade sawmill
Nathan this video was totally awesome. Thank you so much. Some excellent sawing long big wood and a lot of good eating. 👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Stunning piece of wood
Thanks
beautiful vid. ty
my kind of folks right there
My goodness. That sinker. To know it's story. Wonder how old when cut, and just when that was.
That's a pretty cool painting. Not many people know about waxing logs.
Awesome video of some nice lookin boards.
Thanks 👍
what a beautiful piece of wood
Thanks for watching
Awesome!
Lumber capital lumber yard just set up a new L170 and its phenomenal! Instead of starting from the controls and sawing, it comes in from the other end making it easier to sort lumber, stack up the trim cuts.... just a real good system for production
Jake Dean, the Sawyer in the video has been running a 70 more than 20 years, if it was faster he would be doing it,
thanks for watching
@@OutoftheWoods0623This man has three beautiful daughters who operate the mill. I believe ones name is Crystal, I know ones name is Jade, the other girl seldom seen is also named after precious stones. Its not Diamond
Thanks I’ll check them out 👍👍👍
ok, now we're talking, that chicken looked delicious.. those country boys know how to do it right.. if you're going to work hard, you deserve to eat good.. damn that chicken looked good.. LOL..
I saw the BBQ and thought I was in heaven
We were 😂😂😂
My 1956 blockhouse has virgin Dade county Pine and I have to drill it twice before attempting to set a screw in it. Unbelievably tough.
Nice 👍
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼
Great intro song...
Never knew Lucas made that kind of saw. I've only seen their swing-blade circular saw head before.
they make it 2 ways, you can get an ''add on slabber'', or you can get it as a ''dedicated slabber'', they did not show it on this vid, there is a jig that you can also mount a router with a ''surfacer blade'' a very well thought out set up.
@@benscoles5085 Good to know.
The bridge over the Assabet River in Stow,Ma was made of these logs because of how long they lasted in the New England weather.
Nice
Beautiful wood. I’m sure a little drop of water wouldn’t have hurt it 😮
Is that an accurate cut with the unsupported side of the mill bouncing up and down??
There is nothing like A three inch slab yall.
Guut amazing 🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Are you going to be there this year? I am attending...would love to meet you and say hi!
Awesome
hi there looks good , time for you to step up your game , best to all john
Hey John
I know the feeling. You either start eating lettuce or start replacing your wardrobe with the next size larger shirts and pants
@32:34 ..... That sir is cheating! awesome spread and video.
Thanks
You build a house with Cypress , you can plan on it being around forever......Or at least , a very long time .
What’s the longest log that is cut there?
What is that cypress wood used for? I was surprised to see that it’s yellow 👍🤪🇺🇸the only lellow wood I’ve seen is hedge.
22 minutes in, realized I'd seen this before, the guy calling his dog away from the lift all dragging a log!
I'd bet that sinker Cyprus sells for so much it wouldn't be offered to a common man , and it takes a master sawyer to cut it. Nice stuff.
Thanks
Definitely not Bidens America, everything looks good, safe, and great hearted !!!
Thanks for watching
How long ago was this cut down? I love the history of old forests.
Recent
Wasn't this video posted last year? Seem's I recall...All of it!
I'd like to have seen all them fellors standing around hand flipping the log over for the fellor sawing it to earn that free grilled out chicken.
Looks like a union job site to me. 3 dudes working 15 standing around. Hahaha totally kidding.
😂👍
# 9:53 I'm looking at some fine table tops.
there sure are a lot of logs at that saw mill.. I wonder why they don't have two saws running everyday..
They do when the camera isn't rolling,
Nice pile of cash. What percentage profit does a venture like that make?
I thought watching grass grow was exciting
Did'nt see any log pulled from river bottom,??😱
"Epic" doesn't quite cover it. That's some precious material.
Agreed 👍
Is there a party going on?
Are there no OSHA requirements in Georgia?
Freedom
You enjoy people telling you what to do?
That pecan log slabs were beautiful especially with that crotch in it! I bet it fetched a nice price!
Thanks 🙏
seems like everybody knows Nathan out there.. get Nathan some water.. LOL..
Is this a class to learn how to run a mill?
no, most of the guys there own sawmill businesses, just an excuse to get together,
@OutoftheWoods0623 awesome! Sounds like an excellent idea to get together 😁
👋🏻
# 10:53 betcha that one coulda been a real bad dead head.
truck driver needs to belly strap that lower load.
community
🗽🇺🇸💡🛐
Anyone count the growth rings on that sinker cypress
We did not
No audio.....
I've got trees anybody need logs😮
Wood is getting so expensive.
Why is everyone standing around?
MAGA . . 🙏
😂yep totally environmentally irresponsible. Not a very smart idea for the environment, but just great to make money😂
yeah we should have just left the log in the water to rot, good thinking there,
Ya that is a gov bot talking that can't read.. Kick it off the channel.
Is it me or does the unsupported side of the saw head seem like it's bouncing up and down pretty badly? That would effect the boards, wouldn't it??
