Thanks Steve. Super Senior golfer here. Decent golfer years ago and could 'get away with' shoulder width stance as so often recommended. Narrowing stance your way has extended my longevity as a golfer.
i tried the wide stance from my history doing powerlifting in the gym. Works well for deadlifts..... leaks power for golf. Totally agree with this finding and the focus on the hip width instead of shoulder width
Great tip thanks! My old wide stance hindered my hip turn and my swing felt forced and tight, especially with my driver, causing a lot of hooks and slices. Now I’m straighter of the tee and the swing feels more relaxed. 👍
This is very good advice, how to find out the personal best stance width. Another excellent method has the German professional Pat Kuck. He has found out measuring with force plates, that the half of the players have there balance points in the feet 10% nearer to the toes from the middle of the feet, the others exactly in the middle, feeling it a bit more on the heels. Those with the nearer to the toes need a broader stance to keep the balance than those with the heel feeling.
Recently I narrowed my stance at the heels to approx 8-10 inches throughout the bag. Night and day for low point (divot) and centre face contact. Easier on my hips and back as well. Great video as always Steve! 🫵😎
@@Inmotion70 You had a post of Mike on the range teaching some pros how to properly shift their weight under their naval. One pro had too wide a stance. Mike said, Don’t give me that damned grasshopper jump😂!” Narrow up the stance or you’ll sway like hell😂. You were blessed to have spent time being mentored by him. His contribution lives on through you! One day I’d like to come out from Ontario Canada for a lesson! Your simple to follow instructional videos are impressive! 🫵😎
I've played my best golf with a narrow stance. Every club beginning with a driver on down to the wedges my stance width remained the same. Having a bad back and hip it really takes the pressure off from using a wider stance.
I am really struggling with getting to my left side, either I never get there of I find myself out of balance. I am leaking power like crazy. Carry distance is down to around 230 with driver. Got to solve this. Hoping this helps, I feel like I am getting almost all arms in my driver swing.
But what's that move you're making with your left foot before you follow through? Looks like you're sliding your left foot back under you and open in order to maintain your balance throughout the finish?
I don’t want to disagree Steve because I honestly have no idea. However, watching scientific videos about protecting your back/hips socket and also watching slow motion videos of professionals now, it seems that you shouldn’t, and the progressional don’t, move the hip past your ankle. Am I correct in thinking you disagree with this? Thank you
I believe you protect your back when you allow the hips and torso to turn together with hips tilted. The injurious position is like a Zalatoris where there is tons of side bend, extension, and torsion. Fred Couples had his ilium crest well outside his ankle, I think it can be a function of stance width. I want to center my pelvis on top of my left heel through impact.

This is excellent. I tried this the other day and it allowed my hip turn to be faster and hit further.

You got me Steve, great, excellent clarification as that Was me, too wide stay back. Cheers mate from Phil, Sydney Australia 🇦🇺

great drill!
Brilliant explanation, tnx!
You're welcome!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I have seen the same results with clients.

Yeah that's my own unique move reacting to a previous injury.

Just want to clarify as I am a little confused
