I wish he had taken ManUtd's 2nd pen instead of Scholes vs Arsenal 2005 FAcup final. He scored an important WorldCup pen for South Africa to draw a game in stoppage-time I recall and Scholes is great player obviously but not a penalty taker or not gifted pen taker he was very hit&miss with pens for some reason he has good technique in open play but with pens he either hammered it and they went in without him knowing really where the ball would finish or he'd miss the target or in the case of that final not disguise it well and not put it close enough to the corner nor very hard keeper saved quite easily and it was actually the only pen out of the 5 that he went the right way on ManUtd's pens. Scholes was on the list purely because ManUtd chose their 5 best "players" to be the first 5 takers wasn't much thought, rather than their 5 best penalty takers like what Arsenal did they had some better players who didn't take a pen than 1or2 of the players who stepped up, they got battered in the match but stole the cup due to luck but also being a bit more clever when it mattered.

United pounded ‘em but couldn’t get the ball in the net after Ferdinand’s early effort was narrowly ruled off side. They played ultra defensive, with penalties in mind and were rewarded for their minimal effort with the cup.
