I have the old version of this, with the leather/cordura sheath (i hate the sheath) but it's a great light chopper that even does well for very light green stuff, and is a great size for batoning, it's perfect for shelter constructing, and obviously if needed it's a great defensive blade.
Hi from France, I like what you do espacially your very natural way of speeking, got a french channel myself fandecouteaux for all the Frenchies in the wood. Merey christmas to you continu what you do don ´t change a thing. Sorey for my English lol
I have this knife but mine didn't come with a sharpened swedge which is okay because I would prefer those on smaller blades. The thing is, this Bowie is so awesome that not only is it a good chopper and slicer, but a good stabber as well. This knife does it all and is one of my favorite blades and the best thing about it is, it's 1095 high carbon and it's really light and easy to sharpen. Mine is hair shaving sharp.
Minute 7:05 rocks!! That's Tac's Christmas I want one face LOL. Your vids are so fun to watch, that knife is a beast of a blade, who says size doesn't matter? That thing made quick work of that tree, nice! So glad I found this channel man you crack me up brother.
Damn, That is sweet, I but it would run right through a brisket on a Elk in no time, I like that blade style on that bad boy to. Awesome Job Brother. Merry Christmas.
I've got 4 ontario bowie style blades from 12 to 8 inches. I bought my 12" probably over 15 years ago and I don't think they make that one anymore. It burned when my place burned down so it's got a big duct tape handle now and looks hillbilly getto but I still use it as one of my beater blades to destroy vegetation and it's still works well but it's a slightly softer temper now. Ontario and Cold Steel are the Kings of budget choppers imo. You won't go wrong buying either brand for your plant murdering sprees.
Another great video from Tactical!! Thanks dude!!! I like the sp5 so much, i'll be snagging one soon. I really dig Ontario knives but I wish they would put steel crossguards on more of their blades instead of the kraton. Other than that, they ROCK!! Have a Merry Christmas!! Cheers!!
Hey Tac! You do some real quality work with your videos on your channel. I was intrigued when you commented on how the tip of the SP5 wasn't as sharp during the fine push cuts. I bought a like new SP5 at a flea market few years ago and noticed that the bevel near the tip of the knife was more obtuse, almost more like what one would find on an ax geometrically speaking. Did that SP5 have a similar bevel at the tip? My knife is pretty sharp, but I too notice that it seems sharper further away from the tip. I wondered if maybe Ontario ground the blade that way to make the forward edge better for chopping.
Hi Tac't, most of my knives are Saber Grind, and my Flat Grind's are what I would call Flat Vex Grind's, the secondary bevel I Convex, I like O.K.C. my 9"+ blade I have is the Ranger RD 9, a military type knife, but also a excellent large utility/survival knife, that is one heck of a good chopper, also I luv my choil's, my other O.K.C., we'll I paired the RD 9, with the Ranger Afghan, both have the Orange G-10 Handle's, the other O.K.C.'s are my Gen2 SP-47, 49, 51, and one of my favorite's, the "Sharpend Hammer" the SP-53, a Great Bush Knife/Chopper, I do like the shock resistant handles, their pretty tough, I'm sure your friend will be very happy with his SP-5, the closest I have to it is, well my RD 9, and my BK-9, but only the RD 9 is a 1/4", the BK-9 is .188, which is 3/16th's, but I beat the snot out of my RD 9, so I also went with the 1/4" thickness, one thing I'm very happy about the RD 9, is that it's made out of the 5160 carbon steel, I hit a knot when batoning through a log, it bent probably more than 30°, when I finally got through, it straightened out, all I could say is WoW, since then, my wood processor's I try to buy 5160, my SR101 is similar to the 5160, but has more carbon, it's a 52100 Ballbearing Steel, also great stuff, especially when you deferentially temper it, it's then close to 3V, anyhow, Thanx for another good video, imagine that, people letting you test their knives, how kewl is that, good job, and enjoy a Happy Thanksgiving.
People love the Tactical show! I don't really dig the sharpened clip, coz it will chew up you botans all the time. But aside from that, very good design. Maybe you could mold the sheath a little with hot water, reduce the rattle. Greetings to you Tac and your family Also greetings to Eric and his family Soly
I have this blade and I like it but to be honest I like the sp10 better for both fighting and use in the woods because it has more mass, a steel guard, and a better grind for chopping and batoning. But that's just my opinion.
Do you think the leather sheath for the Benchmade bowie/machete hybrid would fit the knife you're using in this video? If it did I'd for sure get them both.
No really. Show us how to do it. Otherwise I'll be slicing my damn wrist up, cutting off my fingers and having flashbacks up beating the shit out of myself as a kid using nunchucks. That was a painful time bro. :)
I've been looking around for a good set of knives to start bush craft. I've sort of zeroed in on the Kershaw Camp 10 as my large knife. I want a smaller knife (6-8 inch blade) for lighter or more detailed tasks that is below $50. I'm looking for a straight blade to compensate for the curve of the Camp 10. If anyone could recommend a knife It would be much appreciated. Furthermore, any suggestions to change my current thinking would be great. I'm very new to this and need more experienced people to show me how to get into bushcraft. I'd like to keep my starting gear under $100.
Gather round, Brethren, and listen intently, for I'm layin' down some Christmas truth. It's been said that a man can travel one month and a day in any direction he chooses, upon the back of any tame or wild beast, or even within the cabin of any modern vehicle of conveyance across the land, sea. or sky. And no matter where that man ventures, or how many testimonies he gathers from every Skip, Jake, or Joe along the way, he ain't gonna find a living soul that can say in good conscience that they've seen another mortal that can swing a blade like our man Tac. Yeah, I've said it before, but If it is worth sayin' once, then it bears repeatin', especially just before Christmas when our thoughts turn to visions of Santa slicing through the crisp winter air in his finely honed sleigh. But wait, that slice, chop, and "oh yeah" you hear might not be Saint Nick, because it's probably ol' Tac out hackin' a clear path through the forest so Santa can get to your house in time!! I bet you never knew that's how it really works. So, along with the cookies and milk, why don't you leave a cold Molsen out for ol' Tac, because it wouldn't be Christmas without him. Plus, depending on how many brews he's had before your place, you may get to watch ol' Tac stumble back out into the forest screaming obscenities and belching as he heads out to complete his Christmas Cheer. Good Night, Children, and have a Merry Tactical Christmas
Hey Tac I gotta request for a test. United Cutlery M48 Ops Machete. I know you don't care for M48's but this one seems a lot better than the others. Keep me posted bro!
Chances are he won't Sorry bro, but he tested a lot of UC stuff and almost all of it failed miserably. But He's got the machete shootout series if you don't know them, you should look em up and pick a new machete. Greetings, Soly
Tac, You gave this knife a 7.5, after testing it. You gave the BK9 the same score, in a review, but didn't test it. Have you since, actually tested a BK9 and if so, do you still rate it at 7.5? IMO, the BK9 should come in at 0.5 to 1 point more than the SP5. Let me know:)
Tactical ok , is the grip on the ontario slick ? im going back n forth choosing altho the benchmade i can get for $90 and the sp5 for $60 so is it worth more $?
Lol one of the quickest ways to loose a friend is when you give them a go of your knife and they hand you a mess back lol takes weeks of forgiveness to be forgiven lol
Let me know if you are interested in buying or trading for one, like I said before the sheath I've got is way nicer, more conformed and has a drop loop
NO..The Tip is actually Thick I have alot of Blads and the Blade Tip on this Knife is Thicker then alot of my bigger Blades..as I am saying this they Syoped Making this Knife the Company went out of Business I have Esse Kbar and Tops and Coldsteel Blades but this one has been one of my Favorites...if you got one Awesome if you dont Try and get one Before they get Really Expensive.
Hell ya Tactical! no better way to spend Christmas Eve then watching your old gear reviews 👍
I have the old version of this, with the leather/cordura sheath (i hate the sheath) but it's a great light chopper that even does well for very light green stuff, and is a great size for batoning, it's perfect for shelter constructing, and obviously if needed it's a great defensive blade.
How much you want for the sheath I hate the new ones Ontario makes

good to meet ya , merry Christmas bro!
That SP5 is probably the most balanced big blade I own. Very light and fast in hand. True Bowie fighting fashion going on with it. Great value.
DannoCrutch yes sir!
I have this knife but mine didn't come with a sharpened swedge which is okay because I would prefer those on smaller blades. dam lol
@@cbr600rrturbo right?? Damn this dude can talk on and on about nothing. has a mouth like Foghorn Leghorn 🐓
Is the sheath ambidextrous? Can a knife be sheath in any direction for left or right?
I think they should round out the top of the spec plus handles more. Would make them much more comfortable.
Wow you could probably Bly shave that tactical beard with that. Merry Christmas Bro!
I don't know of any blade that could cut this beard :)
cracking blade that ! made short work of that wood. Nice one bro, atb Richie.
thanks man
Monster blade!!! Nice, he sure it a nice guy, sending you a brand new blade to work over... lol
yes he is :)
You didn’t have anything negative to say about it. Why did you rate it at 7.5?
People love the Tactical show!
I don't really dig the sharpened clip, coz it will chew up you botans all the time. But aside from that, very good design. Maybe you could mold the sheath a little with hot water, reduce the rattle.

Do you think the leather sheath for the Benchmade bowie/machete hybrid would fit the knife you're using in this video? If it did I'd for sure get them both.
anybody else wondering what that spider was thinking as it crawled across that log during the stab test around 3:50-4:00 in?
How did you even see that lmao 🤣
You gotta teach us fans how to do the wrist flip so we can all be as cool as the TacMan.
lol come over to the school of cool :)
No really. Show us how to do it. Otherwise I'll be slicing my damn wrist up, cutting off my fingers and having flashbacks up beating the shit out of myself as a kid using nunchucks. That was a painful time bro. :)
