This is an excellent review ! Love it ! You covered absolutely everything in 7.01 minutes ! Many car reviews I've watched are much longer & have not included all the important stats like you did in this brilliant Mini Review! I have a Mini Countryman 20I8 model & I absolutely love it , automatic too , excellent drive ! I wouldn't mind if you did a 10 minute review has you cover detailed stats & the other essential features that is all I need to know . I'm from the UK 🇬🇧 & your excellent detailed review has give me more detail than other UK reviewers so that says a lot ! Subscribed & looking forward to other excellent reviews by you 😀 . Thank you for an honest review .

Mini is an excellent car ! I drive a mini countryman 2018 model & I absolutely Love it . It holds extremely well to the road & has cruise control & loads of other brilliant features . Very well built car with an awesome BMW engine . Mine is automatic & I love it . I had a manual before & they're both a dream to drive . I do prefer automatic & it has very smooth transition.
I went for the countryman model because I needed the height of the vehicle to be higher than standard Mini 's has due to nerve damage & spinal issues . The 6 inch height difference truly helps has well as you can higher / lower your seat too . Brilliant car to have . Perfect , solid & robust , fantastic first car . Which ever Mini you decide to own , enjoy .

I LOVE these things. I was looking at getting a LEXUS and Modifying it- but at my age and health- I'm NOT likely to be going offroading any more (back hurts too much to get jostled), and this has enough "4x4 to it for me for bad weather here.. and I drove one when I was a tow driver- and it was SUCH fun!!! PLUS with my ONE eye now-- I can park this one much easier than the full size LeXUS GX 470..which are BIG..

I don't know about Mini, but this is for sure that the body of such a vehicle isn't as good as it must be to have control over uneven terrain. In my opinion it may seem quite nice and worth the cost yet space convenient on tight roads, but getting into an accident would give major problems compared to an average vehicle due to its body, shape, brakes (due to wheel size) and etc. I like this car a lot and I don't tend to be picky much. It's the fact that I only choose to make precautions.

    REVIEW THE 2021 MAZDA CX-5!

  • @engineeringoyster6243
    @engineeringoyster6243 3 года назад +24

I currently own 2 Mini Coopers and have learned the hard way that they are the least reliable cars I've ever known of. The mechanical failures are varied, ranging from turbochargers failing, transmission failures, timing chains that have skipped a tooth, suspension bushings prematurely failing, alternator failures and failures of 10 different ignition coils over a 4 year span of time. The cars have left us stranded dozens of times, frequently in remote areas where parts are available only after several days delay.
The geometry of the "cockpit" is so poor that I can see a traffic light while waiting at a red light. Their center speedometer is a juvenile stunt. Originally I thought I'd get use to it since I use to be a flight instructor and regularly flew the airplane from the right seat while watching instruments on the left side of the cockpit. But, it is so different having to look 45 degrees away from the line of travel to determine the speed.
The cruise controls are the worst. When driving thru rolling hills, the cruise control is continually cycling between full throttle & idle as it over reacts to variations in speed caused by the hills.
If you get an automatic transmission, you'll find it shifting in unpredictable ways. For example, you'll be driving along at 45 mph in 5th gear, will encounter a up slight hill & add the smallest bit of throttle to maintain speed. Sure enough, in response to your addition of throttle, it will up shift to 6th. Which causes the car to slow a bit. So, you add a bit more throttle & it will down sift to 3rd. All all along, it should have just stayed in 5th.
Any time the cars need shop work, we have to drive hundreds of miles across the region to the nearest dealer since there are so few around. A common experience has been for us to drive to the dealer, imposing on a friend or relative to drive along with us & leave our car. The best outcome is to repeat that a few days later to pick up the repaired car. More than once we've received the call that some odd part won't be available for a couple weeks, so we end up making 4 such trips just for 1 repair.
We recently had the alternator replaced on one of ours. Literally, they have to remove the entire front of the car: Bumper, grill, radiator, air conditioning condenser, etc.
They require the most exotic motor oils available on the markets, which will cost 3 to 4 times what normal, premium oils cost. The oil filters are reasonably priced but are hard to reach & you'll spill about a quart all over the part of the engine most difficult to reach.
You'll be lucky to get 3 years life out of the stock tires & replacements will cost 3 to 4 times what "normal" size premium tires will cost.
Parts are very expensive. Of course this isn't unique to Mini. BMWs share this.
We've taken the cars to a couple of different Mini dealers for service. After all, what is the difference to drive North 2.5 hours to Dealer A or drive South 3 hours to Dealer B. It is bad enough that they'll charge, for example, $2200 for some repair that would cost $600 on a Toyota. But, the staff at the dealership will not be the least sympathetic about it. They still want more. I find it so stressful to interact with them since I have to be continually at the top of my mental game to guard against them adding some odd charge analogous to, Simonizing.
If you are interested in a Mini of any type, be prepared to spend about 25% of the purchase price of the car on maintenance annually. Yes I mean that if you buy a $25000 new Mini, you should expect to pay over $6000 a year on shop work.
Notice that in this video, he only covered the styling aspect of the car & nothing about the maintenance.

Our late dad had the very first Austin model when we were skids, so you can say we are a big fan. Agree, you don’t buy a Countryman especially with a JCW badge to go off roading... it’s a grocery hauler. And I know 301hp was slow (I only drive performance cars) as I drove one as I was about to buy one despite my bad experience with my 3rd generation COOPER S. What’s BS is the cost of ownership for this brand. Oh, did I mentioned that we have a close family friend that worked for MINI. He told me he was relieved that I didn’t get the JCW Countrymen. John Cooper should never have licensed the use of his name to BMW. Cooper developed formula 1 cars and of course the icon Mini Cooper. Using the original BMC 1000cc and then the 1275cc transverse engine with straight cut 4 speed manual gearbox. 4 Amco or a Weber 45 DCOE was the carbs. Cams were either 731 or 649 depending on rallying or racing. It was a cheap versatile and easily worked on or modified by just about anyone.
I am afraid this 21st Century thing is not a Mini Cooper S. It is a BMW car. No offense but John Cooper was one of the best and this car is not the heritage of his era. He commanded the best drivers in Formula 1 from Stirling Moss to Bruce MacLaren with Paddy Hopkirk and Timo Makinen making the BMC Team top in the field of rally competition including the famous Monte Carlo rally. Don’t get me wrong This looks like a very nice BMW car but it should not be called a John Cooper S Mini.

Agree. I'm driving the base model and it definitely feels like a sub 25K car. There are much better cars for the price..unless you care that much about some funky lights and design 😂 My Honda Fit feels faster and better to drive
