Mokurei by Hideaki Suzuki - Marimba Literature Library

Currently, Hideaki Suzuki is a professor at Osaka Music University. Suzuki's music is an interesting mixture of his urge to preserve the tradition of Japanese culture and to go beyond it. Not only does his music display new acoustic experiments, but also a desire for searching inner spiritual expression.
About the performer:
Georgi Videnov is a young percussionist who specializes in solo and chamber music playing. Mr. Videnov has participated in a number of national and international competitions, both as a soloist and as a member of a chamber ensemble. Among his numerous awards, he has received First Prize several times at the Pendim and Young Virtuosos competitions in Bulgaria, as well as the Competition for French Music Perfomance in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
Mr. Videnov was born in Sofia, Bulgaria and has begun percussion instruments lessons at the age of six. He has graduated from the National Musical School in Sofia, where he has studied with Maria Palieva, and he is currently a senior student in the Bachelor of Music Degree program at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University studying with the world-renowned contemporary musician, Robert van Sice. Recently, Mr. Videnov joined the faculty of the Peabody Preparatory division as a Teaching Associate for Percussion.
In April 2008 Mr.Videnov performed as a soloist with the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra. He has appeared in concerts dedicated to Bulgaria's joining the European Union in Clermont-Ferrand, and as the principal timpanist of the Sofia Youth Symphony Orchestra in Prague, Czech Republic. Currently, he is a Principal percussionist of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra and part of the Peabody Camerata. He has been a participant in master classes with Nebojsa Zivkovic, Peter Sadlo, Li Biao, Tatiana Koleva, Alexander Kamenarov, Svet Stoyanov, Tom Freer, S­­­ō Percussion, Amadinda Percussion Group, Cynthia Yeh, Michael Zell, Michael Burritt, Conrad Alexander and Charles Ross.
As an orchestral player Mr. Videnov has taken part in three concert seasons with the New Symphony Orchestra in Sofia, under the baton of Rosen Milanov and Petko Dimitrov. He has also performed with the Sofia Festival Orchestra conducted by Emil Tabakov. Mr. Videnov has attended Music: Landschaft Westfalen Festival in June 2009, Germany as a timpanist and percussionist with the Sofia Festival Orchestra for series of concerts conducted by Justus Frantz and Martin Panteleev.
Mr. Videnov appears on recordings and broadcasts by the Bulgarian National Radio and Television and Peabody Conservatory. In the summer of 2010, he attended Brevard Music Festival where he performed under the batons of Keith Lockhart, Joanne Falletta, Kraig Williams, Andres Cardenes and Matthias Bamert; He was the recipient of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Outstanding Student Award given by the faculty members at Brevard which provided him a full scholarship and invitation to come back to Brevard in 2011. The following summer he attended the Pacific Music Festival directed by Maestro Fabio Luisi in Sapporo, Japan and went on a tour to Osaka and Tokyo with them. He was coached by the timpanists of the Wiener Simphoniker and Boston Symphony Orchestra - Michael Vladar and Timothy Genis.
Mr. Videnov is a member of the Peabody Percussion Trio whose recording won the competition for a showcase concert on the 12th of November 2010 in Indianapolis at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention performing Paul Lansky's Threads. The trio has played together since their first semester at Peabody and they have been featured often at the Peabody Percussion Group Concerts and the Thursday Noon Recital Series at Peabody. Recently, they were acclaimed as one of the Peabody Honors Ensembles. In 2009, Mr. Videnov performed Toru Takemitsu's Rain Tree with them at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, as part of the Peabody Conservatory Project.
