    I have a 99/ I’m the second owner and it’s got 280k and still runs perfect although I’m big on preventative maintenance. Switched over to Mobil 1 full synthetic too. 1) AHC adjust from H to N at 19mph, 2) With the LX you get projector lenses in both the headlights and the fogs. I changed both out to HID kits from Xenon Depot and it made a huge difference. You don’t want to do HID kits on reflector type headlights like the LC has because it scatters the light too much and is annoying to everyone but the dummy driving with them HaHa.
    Awesome video!! Long live the 100 Series!!

      The Big Empty _ hi! Have you had many issues with such high mileage? I’m looking at a 99 with 280 at a Toyota dealer who also serviced the car the past years. Timing belt, w pump and valve cover gasket
      ew leather changed recently. The mileage is way beyond what I am used to though!

    Great video. Thank you. I drove an 03 LX470 with 170k today and it felt great. $10k. We like it for the off road abilities on the farm and on some of the trails we travel for work. Looking to make it a workhorse for another 100k miles hopefully. Thanks again!

    Great video. I searched for about a yr for a low mile LC or lx in the 100 series and finally found an 06’ Lx470 with only 46k original miles. I picked it up in FL for $23k and purchased an additional b2b warranty for $2.5k that extends me for 5 years or 150k from the day I bought it. I agree that location is key when looking. I prefer southern vehicles with no rust and all records. Good luck to all! I’ll keep looking for any vids from you. Thanks again, this made me even more confident in my purchase.

    If you want to mod the hell out of it for Overlanding, stick with the Land Cruiser. If you want a stunning and amazing riding, capable version of the Land Cruiser with no mods, then go for the LX 470. The 470 requires a mod kit to install any lift and some of the cool front bumper/bullbars/brush guards, can't be used do to hood clearance issues. I own both a 2006 LX470 and it's my daily that I can drive off road when I get a wild hair, and I also have a 2003 Land Cruiser (first year of the 5sp auto) that is pretty decked out with Super Charger, ARB mods, bumper, brush guard, lights, tent, rear bumper with tire and fuel can swing outs, 2.5" emu lift, 37" all terrain tires, rock sliders, aux fuel tank, air compressor, etc including duel batteries! =) Side note: most of you won't fit into this category and I include myself but if you want to do some seriously crazy stuff, go for a 95-97 Land cruiser (80 series) you can get the optional front, rear and center diff and there is a TON of mods for them. Lastly, if you're thinking about going diesel, remember that gas gets 13 mpg roughly and the diesel gets 16 mpg roughly but the diesel will cost $20-30k more money (you can buy a whole lot of gas for $20-$30k lol) and you can add an aux fuel tank to these easily (to extend fuel range) or even put on a Super Charger on the gas motor (though spendy it sure is fun and more then compensates for the torque you would have got with the diesel).

    • @matt22blaster
      @matt22blaster 5 лет назад +1

      To add to your diesel vs gas mention, you get 15% better milage with diesel but on average you'll pay between 20-25% more for fuel. The mileage isn't even worth it. Not to mention IF you can find a decent diesel mechanic, don't forget to bring astroglide and a mouth guard when you go to pick up your truck.
      Forget telling your kids to become a doctor or lawyer, tell them to become a diesel mechanic.

    Great video! Pretty spot on, lots of info for owners and those just doing research. I've got the same one. Only other issue i would mention is the suspension system. As it goes out or if it goes out, its quite expensive to replace. Best bet would be just to install a normal suspension, Old Man Emu or Land Cruiser shocks, torsion bars and springs. I also had same issue with speakers.

A lot of rich uncles and corporate Aunties had these 1st model lexus/land cruisers. You knew they were loaded to the sky if they were driving one of these. Also, these old school trucks are very popular with upper class Nigerians. If you saw a Nigerian in this BACK IN THE DAY, you instantly knew they were rolling in cash.

    I've got an '01 LX470. One thing to note with the adjustable suspension (according to the owner's manual, and my own experience) is that it will automatically start raising the vehicle when it moves at all. It does not want to allow you to drive at all in "low" mode.

    • @RyuMoto
      @RyuMoto  6 лет назад

      Jae's Neverending Projects yes! Approximately 10mph and up. I thought that was interesting because I've been on trails where a good speed is 15-20+mph or so but Toyota doesn't want you to be in High mode above 10mph either. They must think the high mods is to get over obstacles only.

    • @jaesneverendingprojects
      @jaesneverendingprojects 6 лет назад +3

      Mine starts raising as soon as the vehicle moves (not 10 mph, I can't say this is the same among all years), and I believe the cutoff for high mode is around 19 mph (recalling from owner's manual, not in front of me at the moment). I found this especially confounding and frustrating the first time I tried to park my LX in my parking garage and REALLY wanted to drive it into the garage in low and it wouldn't let me.
      The reason it won't let you drive in "low" mode is because the shocks are completely bottomed out. There is an override module available to let you drive in high mode, but even the makers of this recommend NEVER driving in low mode. (I have no affiliation with this product or company)

    BTW- the dealer can change your steering wheel exit auto adjust. I had them switch mine off and they didn’t charge me anything. There weren’t that many customizable options on these compared to the flagship LS400 sedan, but the steering wheel is one of them. The control switch still functions as normal, it just doesn’t move when you turn off the truck. I wanted to keep that motor from wearing out!!

  • @brendanschroeder1862
    @brendanschroeder1862 Год назад

    Like the review! I would contend with you on the transmission however. The 4-speed trans is just overall more bulletproof. The 4 speed model years have less issues reported than the 5 speed years according to NHSTA, KBB and carfax reports. Also, anecdotally you can find users on big forums like ih8mud, discussing the benefits of having the 4-speed. When it comes to “gear searching”, that is synonymous with having higher gear transmissions just by design. So it is very much more prevalent on the 5-speeds. To minimize gear searching that is apparent, you can use the ECT PWR button to help this. Btw the same thing goes for the model years with the VVTI engines, which evidently became ‘Interference’ engines and also had a larger host of potential issues, to include damaging valves if the timing belt ever snapped, which I’ve only heard of happening a handful of times. With this being said, these rigs are still tanks no matter what config you have.

      Yokohama Geolander A/T. I have about 500lbs of gear with me in the truck on a fairly regular basis, but haven't noticed any real improvement in mpg when the truck is fully unloaded. I'm fine with it though, the engine is buttery smooth and the AHC still functions as it should with 254k on the clock so I can't really complain haha.

    How has your adjusted suspension (amc) holding up? I’ve seen in some research of the globes go on those air ride suspensions it can cost up to 3,000 per side. Do you have any advice how to keep up maintenance on that? I’m looking at getting the LX because I’m not much of an off roader and to have luxury and off roading capability coupled with reliability is so rare to find!

    • @RyuMoto

      Perhaps you meant to say AHC. Yes, research tells me it's the globes that go bad on them. Unfortunately they are expensive new. However, there are enough people getting rid of their still "working" AHC system that you can find many for free or at lower cost. Install on them don't seem to be too difficult but I don't have any experience in it yet. The best advice I can give is to flush the hydraulic system regularly. I had mine flushed recently and it has helped the speed up/down. Good luck!

      Thank you so much!! I really don’t want to change the AHC because to me that’s what makes a 470. I appreciate all your advice and great vid btw👌🏾

      Sandpeople 76 -I bought all 4 globes for $1150 brand new from a seller on eBay, authentic NEW stock globes. I sold mine on eBay for $600, they were still mediocre, the person who bought them had 280k miles on his lx, I had 105k he said they improved his ride quality, so was happy. I flushed ahc system 3 times, spent $80 on two cans of ahc fluid and installed globes myself and I'm no mechanic by any means. So total cost was $630 including fluid. If you can't sell your old ones, it'll cost around 1250 including fluid, dealer wanted $4500!

      I just added an off-the-shelf HID kit. The beam pattern is pretty good (not great) but better than stock without blinking on-coming traffic. There are a few really awesome projector retrofit solutions out there to do a proper ($$$) job though.

      seems like a decent deal. depends where in the country you are too. i think the key is to buy one with lots of records so you know exactly what was and was not done. oil is going up a lot this week (Syria attack) so it if stays up I suspect prices for big heavy SUVs will dip again.
