This is what I was looking for........See I bought my Opinel for Hiking and camping trips. I want simple for touch up sharpening when out and about without carrying alot of weight or bulk. So.....A piece leather "preloaded" with compound polishingadded is enough. A piece of wet sandpaper "just in case" I knick my edge. I'm thinking a 2"×4" is a good size for at a camp, and the weight is nothing to carry on hikes.

Well said 👍🏻. I agree 100% and that's also why I like my Opinel. Very easy to maintain high level of sharpness, extremely light and also feels great and ergonomical to use. And like you said not a lot of accessories needed to keep up the maintenance.

I seldom use stropping compounds since I mainly sharpen chisels and planes.
I'm curious about your guess at estimated grit with the green compound

Honestly I have no idea. And I say thaf for a few reasons. One simply being that grit (when it comes to stones) eatimates vary from one manufacturer to the next. For example Naniwa superstone 3000 grit is A LOT finer than the number suggest and even finer than some 6000grit stones. So when it comes to polishing compounds it also varies a bit as in not all green compounds are the same. And you can achieve different results with different types of leather too. What I can say without a doubt though is that any knife, no mattet what grit stone I use as a last sharpening stone, bennefits further from a few swipes across a compound filled leather strop 👌🏻. It does take some getting used to but well worth the effort. And it also makes a big difference in what type of green compound you use. Quality stuff works WAY better than some "cheap-ish" product. Basically whatever they usually use in machine shops should be well good.

Can you tell me at what angle% do you keep the blade during the sharpening process please ? 1st time I see your "push cut" test ,very impressed 👏

Thanks! 💪🏻 I can't really say as it depens on several things. One, shape and thickness of the blade, two, purpose of use. As in a for example 18 degree angle will keep its relative sharpness for longer than a 10 degree angle. Generally speaking that is. Also you don't need an angle of 12 - 14 degrees to get your knife sharp as heck. What's way more important is that you try and keep the angle as consistent as possible. That and stropping. If you get those 2 things right, you'll be very happy with the result 👌🏻
