- Inspired by the comic book series by Mike Mignola, Richard Pace and Troy Nixey, BATMAN: THE DOOM THAT CAME TO GOTHAM is a 1920s-based tale that finds explorer Bruce Wayne accidentally unleashing an ancient evil, expediting his return to Gotham City after a two-decade hiatus. The logic/science-driven Batman must battle Lovecraftian supernatural forces threatening the sheer existence of Gotham, along the way being aided and confronted by reimagined versions of his well-known allies and enemies, including Green Arrow, Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Two-Face, James Gordon and Bruce’s beloved wards. Prepare for a mystical, often terrifying Batman adventure unlike any other.
BATMAN: THE DOOM THAT CAME TO GOTHAM will be available to own on Digital, 4K and Blu-ray on March 28, 2023.

Who's playing Batman
DC's live action features have been a hit or miss. But their animated features have always been a hit. At least in my humble opinion. Looking forward to this one.
In my opinion the only miss for DC animation has got to be Injustice and that's literally only because it should have been a show or a six-part movie or something like that and not a one part movie

Killing Joke is one of the most awful things I've ever sat through.
That used to be the case but lately it isn't, killing joke, injustice batman and harley and many others are mediocre at best
I know that all the people who have voiced Batman over the years are amazingly talented and deserve more recognition for their work, but when just reading the words “Batman” and “Animated” automatically makes Kevin’s voice pop up in your head shows just how synonymous Kevin was to Batman. So with the utmost love and respect I want to say: Thank You Kevin!❤

Honestly, the very nature of the city of Gotham being effectively a cursed city (even WITHOUT the story of its founding and its connection to Barbatos) makes it an absolutely PERFECT setting for some really great Lovecraftian Horror.
I can’t look at a Batman animated film or game or read a comic book without getting reminded of the one true dark knight

Because animated films are more natural to fast pacing, while a live action film would feel more rushed if given the same pacing.

I agree. I wish they would focus more on story. I love “Batman Mask of the Phantasm” and to me it’s still #1 for a DC animated film.

The Doom That Came to Gotham has long been my favorite Elsewords book. Mike Mignola is our generation's best interpreter of the Lovecraft mythos. I'm looking forward to getting this one.
You must be a different generation than I am :) Brian Lumley is my favorite. Perhaps because people find ways to fight back in them. Don't get me wrong, I like Mignola's stuff. I'm just not willing to pony up the "best" title for him. :)
@@rollinbaker9469 Mike Mignola was born in 1960, while Lumley was born in 1937. I would hesitate to put them in the same demographic, and my year of birth is much closer to Mignola's than to Lumley's.
@@jimlittle2782 Fair Enough. I was reading Lumley while I was growing up (I was born pretty close to when Mignola was, as well). When do you think Mignola began doing stuff with the Mythos? The closest I can get is 2000 (ish), and I have no idea if that's really correct. By that time, I'd been reading Lumley's books for a quarter-century already. I guess that's why I think of him first. I Do like Mignola, because he continues tradition, begun by August Derleth, of protagonists actually fighting back against the monsters. Derleth gave us the idea that people could fight (although they'd lose, generally, or maybe escape). Lumley gave us the idea that people could fight, and sometime, if everything worked, they could even win. In Mignola's world, it seems even more likely that the humans (etc.) can win. I like him for that.

This is the darkest, most hopeless, Batman animated story ever. Loved every minute of it.

I bought the graphic novel of the same name, ages ago, and loved it. The Batman and Lovecraft mythos have many elements and characters that make them a perfect match for each other, and I can't wait to see whether the animated version lives up to it the original's reputation.
I'd also like to see an animated version of the 1991 Elseworlds title, Batman: Holy Terror. That one was set in an alternate America under theocratic rule since the 1600s, whose Bruce Wayne is preparing to enter the priesthood, only to learn that his parents' murder was not random street violence, but a state-sanctioned execution for their political dissent, prompting him to take on the Bat mantle (a demon costume from a church play) to challenge a near-unstoppable religious regime that puts down would-be DC superheroes before they can challenge its power. The story doesn't seem to get much attention, but it would be cool to see it brought to life.
Batman has always been heavily influenced by gothic horror. Arkham Asylum being named after the fictional town of Arkham in Lovecraft stories. Bookstore’s advertising Masque of the Red Death in the Arkham Knight game. The skyline of Gotham is marked by massive gothic spires.
Batman vs. The Supernatural is always a very enjoyable setting to watch him in. His moments in justice league dark, where he would just grumble and go "hm" were the best moments lol
I just watched this movie, and the story is insanely good. It's as if H.P. Lovecraft wrote a Batman story. Uncanny storytelling using the Batman lore.
It makes me very happy as DC still has potential in some series but more in animation He adapts legendary comics, and others meh but he does very well so he has to do good stories with perfect quality in live action .
So we will all say = what a great job 👍
PS = This story that they propose looks fascinating (and I didn't read the comic but with this animated movie I will know more)
Sure there's always a chance of quality that the anti-woke vids won't ever say, like with the black label comics for mature audiences that honor the characters, though they are expensive.

They replaced Tim, a background character, with Cass. Maybe they’ll give her some action scene like they did for Oliver. Looks like he lasts longer in a fight against these horrors than he did in the book….maybe Cass shoots the arrow.
@@Bluesit32 Just because this clip doesn’t show her fighting doesn’t mean we won’t see some skills from her in the film ☺️ ! Also, Cass learned language and speech from Babs even though it took a while. She speaks in full sentences now and has for a while 😊

Much in the same vein as Gotham by Gaslight, it looks like a period piece and once it comes out I'll most certianly be making a purchase
I watch them all, and I at the least enjoy all of them, with very few exceptions, but l really do wish they could do more of these movies with characters that haven’t gotten much exposure, if any at all, instead of so many Batman and Superman movies.
I know they sell better, and it’s part of what funds when we get anything else.

Have it be Batman or Superman centric films and mix in these, for a lack of better terms, relative unknowns and give them somerather lengthy lines or character development and let the audiences reaction guide whether these are characters that could stabd alone, or if they are only going to be side characters that are shown helping out, every now and again

I wish cinema would understand that Batman is more than that same old cinic "realistic" story told in the last movies. Not that it can't be that, but it is also so more versatile.
Finally a Batman fan who says something really intelligent. It is very silly to remain stuck forever in the concept of "hyperrealist Batman”, as if he had never lived in a world of superheroes, or as if Christopher Nolan was the true creator of Batman.

I really love the new animation style, tho at times it feels a wee but flat but still does the work, A supernatural lovecraft Batman story is definitely something i would pay to watch.

Yep starting with the two-part adaption of Long Halloween Jensen Ackles is the VA for Batman in most of the current and upcoming animated films.
@@derrickhaggard Idk if he can fill Kevin Conroy's shoes (Let's be honest, nobody can and it would be unfair to expect that of him), but I have the ultimate faith in Jensen Ackles. He's created iconic characters in his own right and is going to be a fantastic Batman. I'm excited.

I personally don't see how people aren't burnt out of Batman or maybe the majority is and they could be making bank by giving the spotlight to somebody else every now and again.

And that's more than enough to make this film the second Gotham by Gaslight (for me at least)
@@kiarashmamaghani8017 Well either way I hope you enjoy the show but this won't be having anything to do with Gaslight, you'll notice Gotham is a completely different skyline and there are cars and other 20's tech, Jim Gordon, Oracle, and Poison Ivy are all in this which would be really difficult to square away with the events of the animated version of Gaslight, also the story starts out with Batman getting back from a 20 year trip leaving no time for the events of Gaslight to have happened. It also dosent seem like Drake or Todd will be in this version even though they were in the comic but they are also in the animated version of Gaslight so thats another strike against it, Catwoman dosen't seem to be in this either nor was she in the comic but she was in the animated version of Gaslight. But hopefully you'll enjoy both.
