Australia owes a lot more to Paul hogan than what Paul's supposedly owed Australia. A real shame and let down by the ATO to even think he was a cheat. Paul your are the best. Australia's finest comedian and so much more.

Know how he feels. Im from NZ. I started my 1st Business at 24, and worked my guts out, 15 odd yrs down the track the Tax Dept audited me, and stated I owed them huge amounts in unpaid tax. The guy they sent to get all my paperwork, records etc, was going through my bank statements asking questions, I answered, in the end he told me I was the most honest idiot he had come across, but I am retiring in 2 weeks, you need to know that. Well it went to court, I won, they did not have any of my records, and stated they had been misplaced, but tried to make me pay their assessment. The judge dropped the case in my favour. I'm sure the auditor knew I was honest and to protect me he took all my records when he retired. 2 yrs later, they took me to the supreme Court. I got one of NZ's top accountancy firms as well as a top Law firm, all paid by a wealthy family member, they had their day in court, I won again. They tried to hound me, every time they called, I told them exactly what I thought of them and where they can go, with some not so nice extended language. They've never hassled me since, Im now 67 and still in business.
With single handedly creating tourism in Aussie, to the tune of 3 Million aussie jobs.
They should grant him a Tax-Free exemption, for life. Government has No Gratitude or honor.

This is why where ever you are in the world you should support, volunteer time and or vote for SMALL GOVERNMENT. Graduated tax policy is unfair in it's design. If someone earns say 20-30,000, the cost of admittance to live in their country is peanuts. However, if you should have the audacity to be successful, suddenly for you the cost for the exact same privilege is millions. I've never understood this. One guy get's in for free, the other guy pays millions, simply because he has it and they can take it.

If you think of all the other vastly more wealthy people out there that the tax people 'should' be more concerned of? Paul here should be very low on their list! He's bang-on when he says that you 'pay' clever people to look after your financial interests! Therefore you simply dont concern yourself with that matter at all. THAT is why you pay them to do that job. At the end of the day? for what this bloke has actually done for his country! for what he has contributed to the advancement of Australia, commercially,financially? its truly unbelievable to now see how he is being repaid by his own country and they should hold their heads in shame for doing so. He was a big TV star in Aus and his shows did very well in UK - why the hell didn't he stay in Australia ? The worst thing he did was become a US resident - that was asking for trouble .

The US and Austrailia and other countries have agreements if you pay taxs and than they move the money in the background and share transparently through the government. So hes right.

I love Paul Hogan. He was an icon and role model for young guys growing up in the 1980's. I'm going to look into this case and see what can be done but the US gov't.

In my case they fined me, and then re-worded their Tax Pack the following year just in case any one else read it.... incorrectly? 100% True story!
