I read The Books of Jacob which I don't think was the best introduction to Olga Tokarczuk so I'm planning to pick up either Flights or Drive your plow over the bones of the dead.
I might pick up Drive Your Plow soon! It would be my first Tokarczuk, so we'll see
I'm making August my month to read book prize books. So at the top of my list is Tomb of Sand - which will also fit for WIT ... I also would love to read The Book of Form and Emptyness and The Overstory. I'm probably pushing it there because they are longish books. Have you read any? I'd love to know your thoughts on those three!
I haven't read any of these three, although I reread A Tale for the Time Being earlier this year and loved it even more the second time, and Tomb of Sand is high up my list :)

@@InsertLiteraryPunHere Ha! I'm always here to help! I was thinking about other names and it's a mess. For example my full name is AnastasIya on I. Why? What are the rules? I have no idea! Even surnames ending on -enko won't be always stressed. ShevchEnko, TymoshEnko but then in MArchenko the "a" would be stressed. Does Czech has a lot of exceptions?
Btw I've read 2 Zabuzhko's fiction and 2 non-fiction. And I think her Museum of abandoned secrets is more controlled and focused even though it's much longer than Ukrainian sex. They are very different anyway so if you dislike one, you can still enjoy the other
@@Nastya-uj9bg All Czech words are stressed on the first syllable! There can be elongation later in words but that's always clearly marked. Czech orthography is really logical in general, which is nice because the grammar is difficult even compared to other Slavic languages 🙃 And that's good to hear about Museum of Abandoned Secrets--we considered choosing that one for the readathon but the length was the issue there

Yay for women in translation month. I love this time of year because I always learn about books I’ve never heard of before.
I’ve saved a couple of things knowing this was coming and I’m looking forward to participating. Always a favorite thing for me. On a side note I’m very excited Best Short Stories the O’Henry Prize winners is coming out in September. This year is edited by Valeria Luiselli and contains a lot of stories in translation. Valeria Luiselli wrote The Story Of My Teeth translated by Christina MacSweeney. If you are looking for another idea for WIT. I did not finish my thought. They are several stories that are translated in the anthology. Looks good
I've been meaning to read more Valeria Luiselli! I read Lost Children Archive before but always thought that Story of My Teeth sounded more up my alley. Looking forward to hearing what you choose for WIT this year
I'm in! Picking one for "joy" was the toughest, but I eventually decided that I'd count finishing off a historical fiction trilogy I've read the first two of. I usually read standalones, and often abandon a series partway through when I attempt them (Martin, Hobb, Sapkowski, etc.), so it makes me happy when I'm able to find an entire series that I like enough to complete.
Ways To Disappear by Idra Novey is one of my next reads and I sense that it will be a book to bring joy. I love books set in South America, they always seem to vibrant, and there is the theme of translation within the story too which sounds very cool to me!
I hadn't heard of this before and it sounds great!

This was another reason we chose the Zabuzhko: we thought there was a good chance that a number of people would have read it already and would be able to join in the discussion in September. Would love to compare thoughts once I've finished
