It's beautiful, and I love it! Honestly, I think I'm just esoteric enough that this is the kind of thing I would have, just to prominently display the one non-reference book I own, as a conversation piece for my guests to have a chuckle over. I would even go so far as to install a spotlight in the ceiling above it, on its own separate dimmer switch.
The idea is great. So many people watch videos to relax or learn skills. Whatever you build, as long as it is well recorded, comments are educational with a pinch of humour, you're showing woodworking techniques, solve problems and the final product is good quality, it is worth watching. Regardless if this is a one book' bookshelf (for a seasonal reader), 1 cup' coffee table (for a lonely person), 1 shoe' shoe rack (for disable person), or one shirt' wardrobe.
It is not "just" a piece of furniture, it is a piece of art. Your art. Sure, there are people who consider this a craft and therefore "lesser". I am not one of those people... this is art. I love the feel of it.
My first question, that I’ve been meaning to ask, is when and why did you and Chris stop sharing a shop? Was there another move I missed between then and now?
I think you’ve missed almost a year of content. Shaun moved house due to a job offer for his wife and reactivated his channel with new content - the same one he used before teaming up with Chris. This one! Having worked together and, despite not being physically together as before, it didn’t make sense to break away entirely from the content they had created, especially regarding the plans for building furniture pieces. It seems he’s moving again. I can only imagine it’s for a new and better offer, and I hope it’s for the best.
Yep, you got it! Another move for another (better) opportunity for my wife. Luckily my work is fairly mobile, except for the moving thousands of pounds of machinery haha!
you should make the two sides of the book with a hinge and springs (like two sided door), so a range eof books could fit and it would be closed when there is no book.
Architects would call this a "folly". something made for whimsey that doesnt have its original intention of holding people or things but can still be seen as architecture. So I think this is a furniture folly. New Category. Thanks Shaun Boyd. And there is a real place for follies like this. Does it need a purpose? Maybe.... but it doesn't have to be serious. Fun can be a purpose. Great bookcase palate cleanser/folly.
The one book shelf is a hilarious idea. Maybe a charging table for your phone that is a pyramid with a huge footprint, but only has room for one phone charger on top?
The "book" case is beautiful. And I can't help but agree with rhkips that I really think it also needs its own spotlight too. Another great project video with some really great ideas. Thank you for sharing.
Another dumb idea: have you ever done a "palate cleanser" project using pallets as the material? A "Pallet Cleanser", if you will 😉 Sorry. Thanks for the great video! Loved how it turned out 😁
I can imagine this at an exhibition, accompanied by a lengthy essay about it`s standing for your singularity/ the loneliness of the carpenter´s decisionmaking or any other word salad possible. But I love the design for sure.
Well it's not dumb if it works. And it works really well. And if it doesn't work any more, you can always turn it into a great looking standing speaker system.
Who has stopped in the middle of the day and thought a blurry acid trip wheat field would look good on my wall? Did Van Gogh think his "dumb" idea was a good pallet cleanser? Art doesn't make sense...never has and never will. For most, it certainly doesn't make business sense. Creating art make your heart happy and if your lucky can enrich others. I, for one, am enriched! Great work as always. =)
Betcha a bunch of people would want one for their bible or for the book that changed their life, there are alot of romantics that would spend money on this...
@@shaunboydmadethis Yeah im telling you this could be a hot ticket item in churches definitly something alot of people could want, this is a good idea cool build like always buddy
I would place that by my favourite reading spot maybe add a light and the book that I’m reading at the moment is what would be in that spot beautiful piece of work
Reall inspired me, didn't wait for that awesome result but it does it's one job really really well. I'll look more into executing my dumb ideas into real life/
I have a primal urge to toss dollar bills at your dust collector hose. That being said. I love the design, and i know it's not the sort of thing you do, but I'd love to see some videos on the progress of the shop!
Let's take this idea 1 step further! If you make a matching piece that also holds one book, you can bookend a full blown book shelf with these 2 accent pieces. Bookshelf bookends for your bookshelf!
Shaun, I used to watch a TV show back in the 90s called The Router Workshop, they made entire projects with just a router. I, for one, would love to see your take on this approach!
I love the dumb book shelf! I think it's hilarious that the book you chose is a repair manual! But the look and style of the shelf is amazing! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent. Good luck on your move and new location.
Awesome design. At first I was wondering why you were doing that inlay, but at the end they looked like real nice subtle details. Also, clamp down you workpiece when routing lol. Or put a clamp on the table on either side so it cant move.
Not dumb at all, because it evokes conversation specific to the book you have display in it. Why 'that book'? What does 'that book' mean to you? Well done!
Everyone knows you never go "full roundover"! Curious about another move...are you guys running from the law, or doing a loop, eventually bringing you back to the Central Coast?
So you're telling me: A man woodworking for himself has a fool for a client? Can't say I agree. Bound to spark a conversation or two, and you're still practicing your craft so...
This video is a LIE! You call it a one book shelf but it's actually a beautiful narrow set of shelves that you CHOOSE to only put one book on. I'm shocked and appalled at this flagrant effort to gaslight your audience into thinking you make stupid stuff when really you're making amazing pieces that many would love to have. #shaunboydmadefibs

Haha, love it. We think alike.

Really appreciate that! Thanks!

I think this is a great accent piece, and would not be surprised if you get multiple orders for it. As always, awesome project, great video!

That would have been snazzy! Maybe on version 2.
Architects would call this a "folly". something made for whimsey that doesnt have its original intention of holding people or things but can still be seen as architecture. I think that might be my new favorite furniture genre!
The Sophie’s choice line really got me 😂
The one book shelf is a hilarious idea.
Maybe a charging table for your phone that is a pyramid with a huge footprint, but only has room for one phone charger on top?
Weirdest idea for a single book. A pile of ashes and the charred spine from the book "Fahrenheit 451"
Haha, now THAT is weird. Love it!
Brilliant idea and I really like the series...keep on building on it!
Perfect for sitting on our throne.
Not dumb at all. This is perfect if you have a reading spot in your hose. It just hold the current book you are working on.
HEY ITS THE RABBIT MANUALLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. This is best bookshelf that has ever existed!
I love this so much
Love your bookshelf. Perfect for a tiny home. ❤❤
The "book" case is beautiful. And I can't help but agree with rhkips that I really think it also needs its own spotlight too. Another great project video with some really great ideas. Thank you for sharing.
Honestly one of my favorite bookshelf designs I've seen. I want it in my office.
Another dumb idea: have you ever done a "palate cleanser" project using pallets as the material? A "Pallet Cleanser", if you will 😉
Sorry. Thanks for the great video! Loved how it turned out 😁
Haha, now we're talking! Great idea!
Awesome. Might be a good project to have a book shelf just for my LotR trilogy..
Sometimes, you just have to get an idea out of your head. I find just doing it gets that done for me.
We definitely need the big book case for the other books and holders
I can imagine this at an exhibition, accompanied by a lengthy essay about it`s standing for your singularity/ the loneliness of the carpenter´s decisionmaking or any other word salad possible. But I love the design for sure.

Wow! Love it!
That's a really great palate cleanser.
Betcha a bunch of people would want one for their bible or for the book that changed their life, there are alot of romantics that would spend money on this...
Yeah, that was kind of my thought process throughout the build. A lot of people have one book they really cherish.
@@shaunboydmadethis Yeah im telling you this could be a hot ticket item in churches definitly something alot of people could want, this is a good idea cool build like always buddy
I'd love more "dumb" ideas to be made
I would place that by my favourite reading spot maybe add a light and the book that I’m reading at the moment is what would be in that spot beautiful piece of work
Hilariously dumb! Love the idea of the second bookshelf for the other books and inserts😂. Thanks as always for sharing!
Thank you Shaun! It's a beautiful One-Book Bookshelf. Perhaps silly, perhaps flippant even. Thank you..
I'd like to see Arcade cabinet built out of a slab.
So much for Shaun always lays on his projects... 😇 That was dumb, and I loved it.
Haha, I have my limits. This one was just too sketchy!
Very nice as usual Mr Boyd. Think I'm gonna build [a much sloppier] one just to try. And hey, nice book bro!
Dude, this is a great idea honestly. I think think of a few reasons for a 1 book shelf shelf.
Reall inspired me, didn't wait for that awesome result but it does it's one job really really well. I'll look more into executing my dumb ideas into real life/

Haha, it really does give me a weird feeling every time it wiggles like that. Not sure I'll do much about the new shop, but maybe!
Let's take this idea 1 step further! If you make a matching piece that also holds one book, you can bookend a full blown book shelf with these 2 accent pieces. Bookshelf bookends for your bookshelf!
Dat wiggling hose! 😜

Whoa, really?! I'll have to check that out.
@shaunboydmadethis Yes sir, I'm not sure if they have a place to watch the show these days, but it's definitely worth a Google. Lol.
I love the dumb book shelf! I think it's hilarious that the book you chose is a repair manual! But the look and style of the shelf is amazing! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent. Good luck on your move and new location.
Thank you!
Awesome build, Shaun! So, if you want to share this, where are you moving to?
The whole time i kept thinking how is he going to lay on such a small piece at the end of the video!! Personally, I love this piece
Haha, I have my limits! This one was definitely too sketchy.
It might be dumb, but I'm totally stealing the overall shape and those legs for speaker stands.
I have just put the second coat of poly on a floating shelf big enough to hold two coffee cups to mount on the wall by my recliner.
Haha, perfect!
This is so dumb... I love it!! :D
An excellent choice of book for an excellent generation of VW. (MK2 GTI Owner here)
Sweet! Now just have to put all that reading to use.
Happy to see you’re still rocking the plum. Or is that burgundy?
Awesome design. At first I was wondering why you were doing that inlay, but at the end they looked like real nice subtle details.
Also, clamp down you workpiece when routing lol. Or put a clamp on the table on either side so it cant move.
Yeah, I was happy how the inlay wasn't super obvious. And yes, I am so bad about clamping stuff down. I guess I like the challenge.
It's called a Bookshelf, not a Booksshelf.. It was never intended for more than one book.. You finally made what was meant to be made all along. 😮😊
Haha, exactly!
You chose a real Pager Turner.
Not dumb at all, because it evokes conversation specific to the book you have display in it. Why 'that book'? What does 'that book' mean to you? Well done!
You put it next to your reading spot and it holds the book you are currently reading.
Add a door and make it a Whiskey Cabinet
Definitely had that thought haha!
I love it
I watched all to the end to see you lay down on it....
But it is still a very nice piece.
I have my limits, this one was definitely too sketchy haha!
I really thought you were going to just rest the book flat on the top 😁
😂
A beautiful mind
Everyone knows you never go "full roundover"!
Curious about another move...are you guys running from the law, or doing a loop, eventually bringing you back to the Central Coast?
Haha, hopefully all these moves go full circle! Maybe we are halfway there.
moved? does this mean that we wont see you in the background of foureyes anymore?
Definitely funny.
That belongs in a gallery. It is lovely.
Thank you! I'll need to find a gallery open to dumb designs.
So you're telling me: A man woodworking for himself has a fool for a client?
Can't say I agree. Bound to spark a conversation or two, and you're still practicing your craft so...
dictionary
Yes, very dumb. Huzzah!
To be fair, all other bookshelves should be called booksshelves.
💯
Four eyes has a second Channel?
Why not make something that looks natural and is covered in furr?
Furr? Nature?
I'll be the dumb FIRST comment!
Dumbest first comment ever! 🙌😉
This video is a LIE! You call it a one book shelf but it's actually a beautiful narrow set of shelves that you CHOOSE to only put one book on.
