  • Industrial maintenance electricians Tool-bag Tour.
    Industrial electricians tools vary greatly from tools carried by residential or commercial electricians. I was an industrial electrician on the maintenance side at one of the worlds largest plastics manufacturing plants. As an industrial maintenance electrician we had quiet a variety of tools. This tool bag tour will hopefully give anyone looking to become an electricians apprentice an insight into the tools of the electrical trade. If you become an industrial electrical apprentice there is no doubt you will eventually have all of these electrical tools if not more. As an industrial electrician you’ll be working with large 1000+ hp motors. There you will need large tools to contend with the larger sized parts. If you happen to see any of the tools in my industrial electricians tool bag tour that you like you can help support this channel, “Brads Workbench” by using the amazon links below to buy them. Thank you and good luck on your journey as an industrial maintenance electrician or electrical apprentice. These are my favorite and most used tools:

    I def found this really interesting, I did satellite communications in the Army and we had to always make our own cables and networks, we also used similar tools, maybe not the pipe wrench but def a hammer well more sledgehammer. That self made tape ring is def something I want to make I hate looking for tape in general.

    Great video thanks brother. Like the tool set up. I have a question regarding the tape on the tools. I think I know why it's there but I think you should let everyone else. I hated going to a job site and have to have everything inspected before using them. There I believe I just opened the door for you. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 лет назад +3

      No that’s not the reason although I know exactly what ur talking about we only had to do that with power tools. The tape or some are even painted is just a way for myself and others to quickly identify that it’s my tool. When a motor goes down and you got instrument techs, millwrights, and electricians all workin in one area it’s easy for your tools to grow legs

    • @BradsWorkbench

      It’s like any trade job, being the new guy you’re gonna get the shit jobs at first but do them with a smile on your face and don’t cut corners and volunteering to do them will gain you respect. Ask questions but at the appropriate time, not when your journeyman is rushing to get something done or frustrated trying to troubleshoot a problem. Try to anticipate the tools or material your journeyman is gonna need and have it ready even before he asks. You’ll get better at that with time. And lastly I’d say carry a small notepad and pen with you all the time to take notes or write down the day’s tasks. If this is you’re this is your first trade job you’ll see guys talkin shit to each other like they may hate each other (but they’re probably friends) just realize you’ve got to earn your respect from these guys and get to know them before you can start shit talking back with them. But don’t let yourself get walked on either. It’s a great environment. Learn, work hard and you’ll succeed. If you want to have a longer convo shoot me an email. It’s in video description 👍🏼

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  5 лет назад +1

      Lawrence Farinelli I’m not sure I understand exactly what you’re asking... the plant I worked at was a plastics plant. In the oilfield I work for a water treatment company. We treat used flowback and frac water for reuse so companies don’t have to just send it down disposal wells. Is that kinda what u were wondering?

      It is a “extendable socket driver” that accepts 1/4” drive sockets. Also has a square in the handle so you could attach a 1/4” drive socket if you need more torque. I used it as a extendable but driver basically. Can be found in the socket and ratchet section

    Originally from NYC, grew up most of my life in Milwaukee. Serviced business machines for Milwaukee Electric at the time. They are OK, but not the best. Well at least not anymore. Trying to figure out why your tools are spray painted? That South Wire wire stripper, looks really close to my Klein; this thing is the best of the best as far as I'm concerned. For most tools Craftsman is the best I don't care what any tool truck tries to sell you. Not a snob by any stretch of the imagination but I have never bought from Harbor freight neither will I do so. When you look at a tool it should be quality and it should look that it will last a lifetime even without a warranty. Might cost a bit more but it will be worth it in the long run. I have quite the assortment of junk tools because of others buying for wives tools boxes and on and on. Work with Spec's, commentary, but most of all your Eye for a quality tool for the job. I would like to recycle the junk but once and great while one of them comes in handy for a particular job. It's rare when I throw one away but I always keep them clean.

    • @charlieott7469
      @charlieott7469 6 лет назад +2

      Curiosity - I’ve worked at places where I used to spray paint my tools too. For one it makes them not so shiny and alluring for someone to want to steal and for two once everyone knows what color you use to paint your tools they will know it’s your tool and bring it back to you if you leave it somewhere.
      I agree with you on the Harbor Freight stuff. I never ever see any industrial mechanics where I’m at using that stuff.

    • @BradsWorkbench
      @BradsWorkbench  6 лет назад +4

      Yes the spray paint/electrical tape is to be able to quickly identify a tool as yours. Curiosity I agree with most of what you said until you u got to saying that craftsman are quality tools. They are not bad tools but not the quality at the price point they are charging. All tools have a place in my bag from low end to high end. If a Pittsburgh tool is in my bag for work it’s for 1 of 2 reasons...... 1) to find a name brand of that tool would cost way too much more (not many companies make angled dykes and they ones that do definitely want a lot more that $10 for them) or 2) I’m not sure if I’ll use the tool often (the extendable nut driver, I wasn’t sure if I was even going to like that setup idea) Now all that being said, I had a coworker that was a young kid. KLEIN EVERYTHING! Did he do a better job than me because his tools said Klein on them? Hell nah, I could run circles around the guy. Remember the tool is only a minor part of the equation. I hear people all the time say, “those cheap wrenchs rounded off my fastener” NO...... YOU ROUNDED OFF YOUR FASTENER. You chose the wrench, you didn’t see it was a bad fit, you decided to keep trying to turn that sucker. But anyways. I’ve rambled long enough. Y’all may have given me a video idea 👍🏼

    • @charlieott7469
      @charlieott7469 6 лет назад +1

      Brads Workbench Yea I agree. If you’re gonna buy the Craftsman tools that are made today you might as well just go to Harbor Freight. It’s all the same stuff - made in China.
      I agree that the quality of the tool doesn’t have anything to do with the skill level of the person using it. Everyone has their own perspective on how much they should spend on tools and what’s worth it or not. For me - I just don’t understand why a professional would use anything less than a professional grade tool. As far as spending extra money: If I’m going to work for places and expect to be compensated top dollar for my skills then I shouldn’t have a problem paying top dollar for the tools to do the job. Who am I to demand a prevailing wage and then turn around and tell an American tool company that they want too much money for their tools and buy a lesser quality one from a country who treats their workers less. That’s just my perspective.
      Easy for my to say now though because my last couple jobs it is highly frowned upon brining your own tools in. 😂😂😂.
