Thanks for the video. Currently 1 month into your 70.3 training plan and looking forward to my races in June and September. Never been an especially strong swimmer but it's come a long way since the first week of Jan. I swam 1K continuous freestyle the other day which I was so happy with and your plan and videos definitely helped me achieve that.

Amazing to hear and well done for your first continuous 1k swim. I can't wait to hear how you get on in June & Sept.

Great video. Thanks for the tips. Will put them in practice tonight! In the pool I've got head position and breathing going well, but when I go into open water (sighting, general tense of being slightly nervous, not wanting to get murky lake water in etc.), it all goes wrong. I guess that's just practice once it warms up outside.

Warmer water definitely helps! It's well worth finding a pattern for sighting so that you can relax more. For example, sighting every 6 strokes if you breathe every 3 will ensure you can keep your head position lower and be less focused on trying to lift it up... But that will only work if you can swim straight for 6 strokes which a lot of swimmers will struggle with! But find a pattern that works for you and hopefully that'll help you relax and focus on your technique when open water swimming.

I'd like to change "not swimming enough" into "not swimming often enough" to emphasize the importance of regularity over distance, just as you amean, but not explicitly say. Two 30-min sessions is exponentially better than one 60-min session thanks to being in the water more often. (And yes, I'm aware of the doubled overhead).

That's a valid point. As well as the double overhead, there's also commuting and 'faff' time for swimming which can add up. I know for me, a 60 min swim is more like 1:40 of time away from work. So 2x 30 minute swims is 2:20 each week. The best answer for how many swims is "it depends" 😄
