Hey guys, just wanted to take the time to thank you all for watching this video as much as it has! Never would've guessed this video ever have over 10s of thousands of views, that's insane! Thank you, at the time of writing this, finals are almost over with, and with summer coming up I will have some more free time to work on more projects. Here's some of a few I've been thinking of: -Other Favorite Post Hardcore Bands of Mine -Top 50 Post-Grunge Songs -Signature Songs of Different Rock/Metal/Punk Genres and Subgenres -Top 10 Favorite Albums -Top 200 Pop Punk Songs (This would take awhile to make though) And even post some guitar covers of both my original songs as well as some of my favorite bands too! Thanks guys, take care.
Dude I listened to a lot of ADTR and pther postcore stuff in my teens, then moved on to metalcore/hardcore. A few weeks back I saw Casey at a show and the whole postcore thing hit me like a freight train. It hit a musical spot I had long forgotten and oh my, I've got a long list of music to rediscover. Cheers for the video, great bands.
skumfukrock Tom Definitely going to go down as one of the most influential and important bands of the 2000s Post-Hardcore scene, and for Post-Hardcore overall in general. One of my favs! (as you can see....😉)

Oh, and I also hope to make another PH video which includes bands that I didn't include on this list. Because there are TONS of them.
You can have your own opinion with no argument. I personally think these songs have attributes of post-hardcore in them, but that's just my opinion. Plus, not being rude but i wrote this comment like almost a year ago so xD
@@janehowkins8295Post hardcore is a loosely-defined genre of music imo. In my eyes, Drive Like Jehu and Alexisonfire for example are both different waves of post hardcore

@Dakota Davis: Not to get too technical, but both ADTR and CNCC can be put into at least 3 or 4 different genres of music. Post-Hardcore, Easycore, Pop Punk and even Melodic Hardcore. While Easycore does a great job at describing the band's musical characteristics, I don't really think it's an established genre as of yet due to the lack of major bands present in the genre. The only other Easycore band I can think of off the top of my head is Abandoned By Bears, and they get blamed by being a so called "CNCC clone" rather than being compared stylistically by their musical characteristics. Post-Hardcore can also describe the band's music, but this often gets confused because of the bands' Pop Punk nature, especially in their choruses. However, you have to remember that within the Post Hardcore genre itself, that there are different styles of it if you will. We Came As Romans and Hawthorne Heights sound completely different in their musical characteristics, however; both bands are still labeled as Post-Hardcore. You see? We Came As Romans has a much heavier (Metalcore-esque) style of music than Hawthorne Heights more Pop Punk-ish nature. Don't worry too much about it. It's gets really complicated around this area, however; I am fairly confident that I'm correct about my statements. Thanks for the positive feedback! Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, like the description says, get reaquainted with some bands you haven't heard in awhile, as well as being introduced to some new ones as well. Also, I have two other related videos to this countdown you should check out as well: 1. Top 200 Post-Hardcore Songs 2. More Post-Hardcore Bands I Enjoy (A follow up to this particular countdown) PH is my personal favorite genre of music, and will always hold a special place in my heart. I've moved on of course as I've gotten older here, and am into such genres as "Avant-Garde Metal", "Experimental Metal", "Djent", "Melodic Hardcore", "Mathcore", and "The 3rd Wave of Pop-Punk" as well. Thanks for the comment! Keep on enjoying and rockin my friend!
BigOleNick They will definitely go down as one of the most influential bands in PH during the 2000s (in the next decades to come), along side Senses Fail, A Day To Remember, Alexisonfire, and FFAF. I think so at least anyways.
love the list. but for me its underoath hands down.man hawthorne heights, chasing victory, underoath, saosin, alesana, dance gavin dance etc. are the real shit none of this new bs -.-
I will be working on My Top Post Hardcore and Pop Punk Songs countdowns as soon as my finals are over. Which is in about a week. So they should be up sometime soon.
Shellac? The Jesus Lizard? Fugazi? Husker Du? Any actual legitimate post-hardcore bands as opposed to all this hot topic scene pop music with some added screams and breakdowns?
Looks like somebody didn't read carefully what I said around 0:18-0:27. I'm fully well aware that Post-Hardcore spans across more than just one particular decade. That's why I included a disclaimer in the video.
SFLOVER94 That's not the point I saw your disclaimer but I didn't care for it because none of these bands sound anything like real post-hardcore bands. They're all bands who wear guyliner and scream along to breakdowns. There are post-hardcore bands who sound like actual post-hardcore (ie Cloud Nothings) so your comment about decades is also irrelevant.
Chobes 182 I'm so so sorry oh wonderfully infallible Post-Hardcore elitist. You are totally right. How clumsy of me to spend my own time and energy to make a video about a topic I presumably know nothing about. How could I be so careless? Gee, it's kinda odd that the majority people who watch this video seem to enjoy it. How could that ever happen? There must be a lot of stupid people in this world to think that my video is any good. What do they know anyways? I will go and educate myself right away about what "real" Post Hardcore music is. Thanks for the enlightenment good sir, you sure showed me.
The Froth Those were "iffy" choices for me. Because they're bands that are "on the border" so to speak as the new wave of PH bands were becoming more prominent as the 90s turned into the 00s. That's why I specified at the beginning This is why you don't see older PH bands like "ATDI", "Fugazi", "Jawbreaker", "The Promise Ring", "Embrace" and other such bands. Hope this makes some sort of sense.
I will admit I don't listen to many of these bands, and granted I do have a different opinion, but why is Alesana so far down the list? I believe their lyrics are beautiful, the vocals are breathtaking, and the instrumentals are epic and extremely well played.
That's perfectly okay. Really, I only enjoy their first album, It's very raw, energetic, loud, and abrasive. When I listen to Post Hardcore, I want to listen to songs and artists that will evoke emotion out of me in some way. You can get a basic understanding out of that by carefully listening to the parts of songs I choose for my countdowns. I personally didn't feel that with their 2nd album. Their 3rd album was a step in the right direction but never hit home with me. I'll probably re-update this list in about a year or so anyway when I have even more time to reflect on this one. I'm still currently working on my Top 200 Post Hardcore Songs countdown and it'll probably be till mid-August until I'll have that uploaded.
Anyone care to explain the difference between all the genres for me? Like metalcore, post-hardcore etc? I don't know much about it but I listen to a bunch of bands like Rise Against, ADTR, Skillet, FFDP, Chevelle, Beartooth, Chiodos etc.
Ryan Ibana Sure Ryan. I could get very descriptive here if you'd like, but I'll start general and if you have further questions, feel free to ask. Here's a list of genres associated with the bands you mentioned above, as well as Post-Hardcore and Metalcore. I will explain some unique characteristics between the two latter genres respectively. Rise Against- Usually Melodic Hardcore/Alternative Rock, but more generally just a Punk-Influenced Rock band. ADTR- Characteristically defined as a Post-Hardcore band; however, they are also heavily influenced by Pop Punk, as well as Emo (the genres of the 90s) Skillet- Usually considered to be a Alternative Rock/Post-Grunge and/or Alternative Metal band. Often compared to Three Days Grace and other related bands FFDP- A little more difficult to define properly. Often seen as a Groove Metal band, but Heavy Metal works equally as well. Chevelle- A definitive band of the Post-Grunge movement. Chevelle are definitely influential in popularizing the genre along with Seether, Staind, Nickelback, and Breaking Benjamin. Beartooth- A very stylistic Metalcore band that often carry characteristics of different genres Chiodos- A classic example of Post-Hardcore of the early-mid 2000s. Not included on this list. Now, PH and Metalcore are oftentimes difficult to characterize properly due to the overlap of many similar characteristics between the two genres. The easiest way I can explain this is that PH is a very directive influence from the Hardcore Punk genre of the mid-late 80s, this is indicative by the bands reflected in this list. Metalcore, on the other hand, is more directly influenced by the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement of the mid-late 1990s. PH often utilizes a balance between Singing/Screaming respectively, but more specifically, it may be used to intensify a song at a particular point Metalcore often utilizes Screaming much more than in PH, with interwoven Choruses that may involve singing, or at least singing at a given point in the song. A good, clear way to hear the differences between the two genres respectively, is to listen to the following: For Post-Hardcore ------------------------------- Senses Fail- "You're Cute When You Scream" Stutterfly- "Gun In Hand" Silverstein- "Smashed Into Pieces" For Metalcore ------------------------ August Burns Red- "Composure" Bring Me The Horizon- "The Comedown" Miss May I "Forgive and Forget" If you have any other questions just let me know!
Metalcore has more screaming. Post-Hardcore is usually about 10-50% screams 50-90% singing. Metalcore is about 75-100% screaming 0-25% singing. Deathcore(excluding betraying the martyrs) are 100% screams. and Death Metal is always 100% screams Electronicore is Post-Hardcore with electronic music mixed in.
Yes. I never dare to say that I listen to post-hardcore because people might think I like bands like these when the truth is that I despise this kind of music.
@@snow-puppetsofficial360 Yeah, At The Drive-In are great. As are La Dispute or Touché Amoré. But they don't have anything to do with the cheesy poser bands in this video.
Adam Stephens I can't see many people labeling SOTY's music in the realm of Post-Hardcore. Maybe somewhere along the lines of Alternative Rock or Pop Rock, but nothing in particular sticks out to me that would make me see them as a PH band.
***** Great band! Enjoy their early work the most. However, they fall just short of making this list unfortunately. Expect them to show up though on my Top 200 Post-Hardcore Songs though!
br1ght3std4y Ah, Alexis. Definitely without a doubt up near the top as being one of the most influential bands continuing the genre in the very late 90s through the 2000s. I agree. They're just not a personal favorite of mine. Same goes for MANY Post Hardcore bands of the 2000s that didn't appear on this list. I will make a separate video for that as well. :)
+The Dream Is Dead I actually listened to OLN back when they first came out onto the scene and Trevor was still in high school. I've got to say, they've improved quite a lot ever since. BTF just barely missed my list. Since I personally enjoy Craig better with the band (I still enjoy Beau of course though) there were only a couple of songs on their first album that really stood out to me, but just didn't have the impact on me quite like these other bands have respectfully. I know BTF are quite influential for a ton of people out there, and that's wonderful regardless.
Unfortunately not on this list my friend. I thoroughly remember growing up back when Voyage came out and being blown by it. And while I did enjoy that, I feel that their later work personally could never live up to that standard they had in Voyage personally. Hope you enjoyed otherwise!
Superkick2925 Just like Sleeping With Sirens, Vic and Kellin's voices are just too unique in their own ways for me to truly appreciate the music they make with my own personal tastes. This is not to say I do not enjoy bands with lead singers who have incredible range (take FFTL, Chiodos, Agraceful, and Alesana as examples) it is just that the music these bands make accompany the vocals in such a way that make me appreciate what they do more so than bands such as PTV or SWS. I hope this makes more sense now. Thank you.
Dario Argento Unfortunately not on here my friend. There are just too few songs that I actually like by them as a band for them to meet my personal criteria. However, I urge you to check out Agraceful, a band that Chris (of former Emarosa) went on to make afterwards. Great band. :The Great I Am: is by far my favorite song by them. Check it out sometime.
+EscapeTheEnigma Well, that's good for you on your part, but maybe not for everyone as a whole. These bands on the this countdown were highly influential in the development and movement of the 2nd wave of Post-Hardcore. Most of them date back from the early 2000s. DRUGS, on the other hand, lasted for approximately 2 years, released one album that's relatively mixed in opinions by a decent size of PH fans. This is not to say that bands with only album, or a few songs can't be on the list (see Saosin or As Cities Burn for example) but these songs/albums became either highly influential and/or popular within the genre as it being vindicated by history. For example, "Seven Years" by Saosin is considered by many fans to be THE quintessential Post-Hardcore song that really exemplifies what PH is all about. In it's tone, musicality, lyrics, dynamics, and so forth. However, this is just my sole opinion though. Yours may differ of course.
This has nothing to do with Post-Hardcore . Pop-emo-metalcore-poser something , but not Post-Hardcore Try some "drive like Jehu" or "Daniel striped tiger " Or.. like true Post-Hardcore
You do realize that genres develop and evolve over time right as new generations of bands come to the forefront? PH in the 80s with bands like Fugazi, and Rites of Spring sounds different from the 90PH bands of Jawbreaker, Embrace and At the Drive In. Which in turn sound different than the 2000s PH scene which in turn sound a lot different than the PH scene of the 2010s with bands like La Dispute, Tigers Jaw, Pianos Become The Teeth, Sleeping with Sirens, etc which in turn sound much different the current PH scene of bands. Which are much more hip-hop/trap/emo-rap influenced Don’t be so dogmatic in your assessments. It’s extremely toxic.
@@NoNamedNobody692 Nah, but kirilkorolev5981 is absolutely right. I love La Dispute or Fugazi but the bands on this list all sound like cheap pop bands.
At the end of the Countsown I was like..what what what...no Senses Fail...you have Hawthorn Heightd and Silverstein...but NO SENSES FAIL...and at the end I add goosbumps...fieuuuu it's there and it's a the first place..(Cauz even if I lissen mostly to metalcore, Djent et progressive metal abnd, Senses Fail is my favorite band of all time)!
I know. Sonny was only 16 at the time their first album was made. He shredded his vocal chords unfortunately and you can certainly hear the difference between the bands first and second albums respectively.
Stony Fuzzball I think they’re an okay band. I don’t consider them to be anything special however. I wouldn’t consider them to be great enough to earn a spot on my list personally, but I listened to them occasionally back in the day. Especially when Trevor was younger. I could probably think of at least 50 or so PH bands from the 2000s off the top of my head that could potentially make my list (including the ones that did too), narrowing them down to just 25 was pretty difficult, and even more so putting them in some sort of order. Some ones not on my list here, that many people seemed to be bothered by most, include: -Alexisonfire -Blesstherall -Of Mice & Men (early) -Emarosa -Lovehatehero -Enter Shikari -Stutterfly -In Fear & Faith Among others.

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, like the description says, get reaquainted with some bands you haven't heard in awhile, as well as being introduced to some new ones as well.
Also,
I have two other related videos to this countdown you should check out as well:
1. Top 200 Post-Hardcore Songs
2. More Post-Hardcore Bands I Enjoy (A follow up to this particular countdown)
PH is my personal favorite genre of music, and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Keep on enjoying and rockin my friend!
shit why is escape the fate so low....
Guess I found my favorite genre
We just called this stuff emo back in the early 2000's in my city, DC. Post-hardcore was something different around these parts.
He made his own top 25... so calm down
\m/ Silverstein will always have my number one lol but good list
BigOleNick They will definitely go down as one of the most influential bands in PH during the 2000s (in the next decades to come), along side Senses Fail, A Day To Remember, Alexisonfire, and FFAF. I think so at least anyways.
SFLOVER94 None of these are post hardcore. Screams are growled (metalcore). Drop tunings(core and metal). And so many octave chords (metalcore)
love the list. but for me its underoath hands down.man hawthorne heights, chasing victory, underoath, saosin, alesana, dance gavin dance etc. are the real shit none of this new bs -.-
StRoth totally agree
Honestly in my opinion dude i respect your list but my top 1 choice woulda been my apocalypse by escape the fate
Thanks for the enlightenment good sir, you sure showed me.
post hardcore pop i dont found relations in between post hardcore or skramz
ya my favorites are silverstein, adtr,we came as romans. i think "the word alive" should be in the top 20 atleast. anyone else got bands like these?
que version era la de apology de alesana no me acuerdo haberla escuchado asi? wut :v
el otro Pienso que es la versión de el demo, y no la versión de la álbum. Ve si puede buscar esa versión en RUclips!
Where is The Devil Wears Prada or Of Mice & Men?
TDWP is Metalcore
So is OM&M
It's safe to say that bands like helmet deftones and hum influenced this stuff great list
You ever listened to the amity affliction?
6kliksphillip Yes, I have. Good band for the most part.
I take that back just because you made Senses Fail number 1
No Emarosa?
#1 - ALESANA -.-
No Blood Brothers? No At The Drive In?
The Froth Those were "iffy" choices for me. Because they're bands that are "on the border" so to speak as the new wave of PH bands were becoming more prominent as the 90s turned into the 00s.
That's why I specified at the beginning This is why you don't see older PH bands like "ATDI", "Fugazi", "Jawbreaker", "The Promise Ring", "Embrace" and other such bands.
Hope this makes some sort of sense.
What is this opening song
I'm still currently working on my Top 200 Post Hardcore Songs countdown and it'll probably be till mid-August until I'll have that uploaded.
where’s saosin 😃
ADTR- Characteristically defined as a Post-Hardcore band; however, they are also heavily influenced by Pop Punk, as well as Emo (the genres of the 90s)
Skillet- Usually considered to be a Alternative Rock/Post-Grunge and/or Alternative Metal band. Often compared to Three Days Grace and other related bands
FFDP- A little more difficult to define properly. Often seen as a Groove Metal band, but Heavy Metal works equally as well.
Chevelle- A definitive band of the Post-Grunge movement. Chevelle are definitely influential in popularizing the genre along with Seether, Staind, Nickelback, and Breaking Benjamin.
Beartooth- A very stylistic Metalcore band that often carry characteristics of different genres
Chiodos- A classic example of Post-Hardcore of the early-mid 2000s.
PH often utilizes a balance between Singing/Screaming respectively, but more specifically, it may be used to intensify a song at a particular point
Metalcore often utilizes Screaming much more than in PH, with interwoven Choruses that may involve singing, or at least singing at a given point in the song.
A good, clear way to hear the differences between the two genres respectively, is to listen to the following:
For Post-Hardcore
-------------------------------
Senses Fail- "You're Cute When You Scream"
Stutterfly- "Gun In Hand"
Silverstein- "Smashed Into Pieces"
For Metalcore
------------------------
August Burns Red- "Composure"
Bring Me The Horizon- "The Comedown"
Miss May I "Forgive and Forget"
If you have any other questions just let me know!
Metalcore has more screaming. Post-Hardcore is usually about 10-50% screams 50-90% singing. Metalcore is about 75-100% screaming 0-25% singing. Deathcore(excluding betraying the martyrs) are 100% screams. and Death Metal is always 100% screams
Electronicore is Post-Hardcore with electronic music mixed in.
Also FFDP is Thrash Metal
I'm so glad FATA is on here well done
This why posthardcore needs a new name, its too big. Bands like these and fugazi shouldnt have the same genre name, theyre very different styles.
true
FACTS
Yes. I never dare to say that I listen to post-hardcore because people might think I like bands like these when the truth is that I despise this kind of music.
@@ratatatuffAt The Drive-In is acceptable tho
@@snow-puppetsofficial360 Yeah, At The Drive-In are great. As are La Dispute or Touché Amoré. But they don't have anything to do with the cheesy poser bands in this video.
Just my opinion how did Story of the Year not even make the list
Adam Stephens I can't see many people labeling SOTY's music in the realm of Post-Hardcore.
Maybe somewhere along the lines of Alternative Rock or Pop Rock, but nothing in particular sticks out to me that would make me see them as a PH band.
I would say it just depends what album someone goes on about Page Avenue thats very Pop Punk as where as in the wake of determination is PH
SFLOVER94 but still great list silverstein are my favoruites but as well love senses fail and finch
I see what you're saying. I suppose I really never just saw them in the same light as the other bands I chose for the list.
Thanks by the way (:
story of the year is absolutely post hardcore
dance gavin dance is good
no Enter Shikari? wtf...
***** Great band! Enjoy their early work the most. However, they fall just short of making this list unfortunately. Expect them to show up though on my Top 200 Post-Hardcore Songs though!
Love the list and I know it's completely opinion based but man am I sad as fuck to not see Alexisonfire on this list :'(.
br1ght3std4y Ah, Alexis. :)
Scary Kids Scaring Kids❤
Blessthefall? Our last Night?
Our Last Night isn't that famous sadly
+The Dream Is Dead I actually listened to OLN back when they first came out onto the scene and Trevor was still in high school. I've got to say, they've improved quite a lot ever since.
BTF just barely missed my list. Since I personally enjoy Craig better with the band (I still enjoy Beau of course though) there were only a couple of songs on their first album that really stood out to me, but just didn't have the impact on me quite like these other bands have respectfully. I know BTF are quite influential for a ton of people out there, and that's wonderful regardless.
oln is trash now tbh they just mostly do covers now and when they do original songs its just meh imo
Yeah, these bands aren't post-hardcore. They're poseur emo bands.
No In Fear and Faith?
Unfortunately not on this list my friend. I thoroughly remember growing up back when Voyage came out and being blown by it. And while I did enjoy that, I feel that their later work personally could never live up to that standard they had in Voyage personally. Hope you enjoyed otherwise!
I understand and enjoyed. A lot of bands in here I like.
title fight? anyone?
👏👏👏👏
No Pierce The Veil? Damn...
Thank you.
SFLOVER94 I feel that way about SWS more than PTV
post hardcore is convoluted genre
Escape The Fate at number 25… Thanks for getting the shitty one out of the way early on.
Their new stuff is meh. but the album Ronnie Radke wrote is a Post-Hardcore gem in my opinion
lot of these band are metalcore. Adept
Escape the fate era bom, depois que ronnie saiu da banda ficou mais ou menos.
No BCR???....
Original ETF #1
early escape the fate top 1 if this is in order
no MCR?
o.o
Lenny Cat
Lmao. Someone’s always gotta be baggin on MCR. Love it.
Where's Emarosa? old Emarosa
I will thanks!
this all popular bands. give me underground vands
Lol alesana like my second fav aswell
Ghitar hero❤
Hawthorne Heights would be way higher for me
No D.R.U.G.S.?? They were honestly the first true band that got me into post hardcore
+Chreos Lefeink Yes they were so underrated I cant believe it did not make this guys list
chiodos was the singers original band and I like chiodos better honestly
Soupykid this comment did not age well, Drugs is back, and better then ever 😂💯🔥
ptv???
posser
This has nothing to do with Post-Hardcore . Pop-emo-metalcore-poser something , but not Post-Hardcore
Try some "drive like Jehu" or "Daniel striped tiger " Or.. like true Post-Hardcore
Which are much more hip-hop/trap/emo-rap influenced
Don’t be so dogmatic in your assessments.
It’s extremely toxic.
@@NoNamedNobody692 yes the are develop but not to change thier genre itself and put pop on it.
Scar Vittori I read this before the end. No sense fail. Wtf
Billy talent counts as post-hardcore why does no one know that
#15 No wonder skrillex needed vocal surgery
I know. Sonny was only 16 at the time their first album was made. He shredded his vocal chords unfortunately and you can certainly hear the difference between the bands first and second albums respectively.
Old Escape The Fate is my fav
Your forgetting our last night
Stony Fuzzball
I think they’re an okay band.
Some ones not on my list here, that many people seemed to be bothered by most, include:
-Alexisonfire
-Blesstherall
-Of Mice & Men (early)
-Emarosa
-Lovehatehero
-Enter Shikari
-Stutterfly
-In Fear & Faith
Among others.
Fightstar is not a post hc
No early Thrice? Wow. Illusion of Safety? Artist in the Ambulance?
How is 25 escape the fate bruh should be like 2nd
No Alexisonfire, automatic ewie
Hopesfall it's good beat.. Not the other band sound like miaw miaww miaww
