  • Proportional spending on the care economy will need to double over the next 40 years to provide for Australia’s ageing population.
The major intergenerational report forecasts the number of people over 65 will double and those over 85 will triple between now and 2063.

But the government doesn't talk about that aged generation having large superannuation savings making that generation largely self funded retirees and less of a burden on the tax system. If people haven't realised yet, your superannuation means the government doesn't pay you a pension.

Only thing is..the cost of aged care is going to increase substantially as demand also goes up. Compared to the US, Australia's aged care system is an.antiquated, smoking wreck. Again, the sector's problems are being caused, almost entirely, by Canberra's Ponzi lunacy. Also those big super assets will become much less common as work becomes increasingly casualized and living costs (such as housing) and personal debt increases

Id like to see them introduce a Parent Pension - encourage people to have more kids. We shouldn't rely on immigration. We can't pay for the pension of the oldies if there's not enough people working which is what will happen with an ageing population. At least introduce some form of incentive such as child tax incentives or child pension ect. This coming from a liberal voter.

    • @petergrifin1958

That is why super was introduced because they knew this day would come where too many people wouldn't be working so we couldn't pay for their pension. But I think far more still needs to be done.

It's actually a big problem. Simply put the pension can not exist if the majority of the population is not working. So when you go to retire you may not have one. Unless we have more kids and more taxpayers to foot the bill. And it's not obvious some places it gets younger. Its just the average age of everyone alive in 40 years will be fat higher than today.

We've known this for around 50 years so how come it's now making news? Perhaps the news should be that Labor and Liberal governments have known this would happen and still failed to plan for it! Talk about failure in their duty of care, straight out negligence from our major parties. Why the deliberate negligence? Because the voters just keep voting Labor and Liberal. We've got what we deserve.

Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices. Fasting should be investigated as a treatment for disease.

Population needs to be in balance with jobs, resources, nature and the environment. Having a bigger population in any country than the country can support makes no sense. Access to food, water, shelter, energy and jobs should guide population levels. The worlds population is still expected to add another billion people to feed, clothe and produce pollution. Humans are crowding out all other species of plants and animals. Education and birth control are key to reducing poverty and hunger. Having a child that you can not provide for yourself is cruel and irresponsible. We need solutions not just sympathy. Endless population growth is not sustainable on a finite planet. Every country needs to "TRY" to be more self sufficient. When there are not enough resources to sustain a population something has to give. Countries need to focus on quality of life for their citizens and not just quantity of life for cheap labor. Why import fossil fuels when wind and solar energy can be produced locally and solar energy can power electric vehicles. We need solutions not just sympathy.

Human overpopulation is a myth. People live together compactly without noticing the abundance of land planet Earth has.
Each additional person creates more value than he/she consumes. Resources grow as the human population grows. Not only does it grow, it grows faster than the rate of human growth.
The more people there are, the more ideas are thought up. This leeds to more inventions and new ways to use natural resources. Hence why our quality of life has been getting better, and now we're living longer. People are the ultimate recourses.
China has a huge population with a huge poverty population. However, this has nothing to do with having a huge population. It's political. To innovate, people must be allowed to think, speak, publish, associate, and disagree. They .ist be allowed to save, invest, trade, and profit.
In a word they must be free.
