I don't know about Australia but in the U.S. our dollar has lost about 90% of its purchasing power since the 70s. Back then a man who made $15,000 per year could afford a mortgage and his wife could stay home to care for the kids. Today the same guy has two or three part time jobs and the wife works full time. All because of the reckless way governments borrow money into existence.
I'm not Australian. I'm an American baby boomer and in my humble opinion I wouldn't want to bring a child into this world the way it is. We're leaving our kids with a world vastly different than the one we grew up in.
How about... 1. Spend less on budget items that dont need funding as much, 2. Have greater accountability of the budget spend you do have, 3. Get greater efficiency on your spend? Oh no, the answer is more taxes, and tax more people.
If one is to believe it is expensive now to support older Australians with out current population. How is it possible that more immigration will lower the growing population to care for? Do these politicians ever think about the future or just their own current self interests. This problem they claim will only grow with their solution of creating a larger population. DOH! It is not a laughing mater reflected by the hosts here. We never had this problem a few decades ago when the population was smaller.
Very interesting story. Cost of living is too much for a whole generation, cant expect them to work more, earn less and have as many kids

All taxes are used for everything that's required to run a country. Even those making the tax codes are paying taxes.

Mb they're just thinking about the increased tax revenue. Either way I'm sure they'll spend millions on consulting firms to study the issue.
