The religious tradition of Taoism venerates a group of 8 Immortals 八仙 who offer a concrete symbol of this ability to transcend the limitations of ordinary human life through the beliefs and practices of Taoism.
Lü Dongbin 呂洞賓
A person both real and legendary, he influenced many Daoist traditions that come down to us today, particularly the Nei Dan (Inner Alchemy) traditions. Born in the Tang Dynasty, he was later elevated to the status of an Immortal. Lu was a historical figure. He is also known as Lü Yan (呂巖). Dong Bin is his courtesy name. “Lü Dong Bin” means the “Host of the Caverns” or “Lu the Cavern Guest.”
Different worshippers saw him as an itinerant religious specialist, a patriarch for the Perfect Realization Taoist movement, a healer and wonder-worker, a patron god of various tradespeople ranging from ink makers to prostitutes, a powerful deity of spirit-writing sects and a member of the that powerful yet rambunctious group of spirits known as the Eight Immortals. These multiple images of Lu were created over centuries by people form many different social groups of later imperial China, including scholar-officials, Taoist priests, dramatists, tradespeople and artisans.
These 8 Immortals can also be seen in Buddhist temples and are also a popular element in secular Chinese culture. They are the base for various literature, folk tales and are pictured in art.

The stories of these immortals are very interesting yet intriguing. While some of the Immortals were real people, the magical and mystical tales surrounding these practitioners make it impossible to distinguish historical from mythological reality.

@@HakkaMoi well thank you to responding to such a person as a stranger as myself.....and I hope you do not mind ...me inviting more conversation between ourselves on my own behalf ...as I would like to mention our own immortals....of these concepts and what may grow into or out from higher truths ....so in relation to this is our own American drama related to folk... practicalities and higher dynamics and even practice of "magic"in in our drama of "Wizard of Oz"....it's was first in written form then graduated onto celuoid (movie film)it also has to do with folks with best of intentions fir good of humanity......by the way im from NY and we had an eathquake....just few hours ago on 4point scale and this is unusal.
By the way I just heard that Twiane had a 7.earthquake ....and in New York today as I mentioned we had a 4.earthquake which is unusal....did you feel any effects from it yourself?

So the scarecrow in this story also wants to be credited with some intelligence.....(As we all do sometimes)...the wizard of Oz who actually happens to be an ordinary mortal .....grants all these characters each a wish....the scarecrow wants a brain as he is often under estimated as ofcourse he plays "a fool"or is silly for unknown reasons yet he is always helpful and actually one of most intelligent members of this group.....so the wizard of OZ ....hand him a.....Diploma
As I was sat in a corner and forcefully lectured that if I couldn't give right answer of what is good or bad or could mind read according to any answer that I could be thrown out of promises...and if I really wanted to eran 5 bucks....may I add I was never being facisus at any point or flippant with my answers ...at this test study in human behavior supposedly or to actually judge a film ..take your pick... But I was certainly grilled and given an ultimatum in a threatening manner....
So ..I wanted to point out ....if you were interested...how these events or stories match in a very odd way although we see even numbers in these immortal stories or concepts of consciousness

Yes ...this is a very famous American story and in film most of our kids are introduced to it...I'm so surprised no one has made connection to immortals.....it's called The Wizard of Oz ...go look it it up on film ....The original old version. ...it has direct correlation with concepts of immortals

My dad bought 8 immortals 30 over yrs ago, a wood sculptured, stone sculptured, Immortals relaxing watching 2 of them playing chinese chess under a tree (painting art) & Immortal on a boat crossing the sea( painting art) .

I'm not myself into oppressive controls or being subjected to this and as a "free person"...and I can tell you this was psychological torture ...in a so called open environment from people off the street .... participating in this program....and trying to earn five bucks while being victimized.....this place should be shut down and needless to say I'm fortunately not that desperate or for drug fix or into psychological torture.....if stress and a head banging headache
