Somedays I have a longing for how things once were.
It is not easy being an overseas Chinese.
Many challenges to overcome and more inner demons to embrace.
Homesickness is defined as the longing for home, nostalgia as a longing for lost time.
Our forefathers have made the great exodus, travelled far from their homelands in search of a better patch of grass. This great migration brought our species to a position of world dominance that it has never relinquished and signaled the extinction of whatever competitors remained.

Thanks for the video. I learned a lot from the video.i am hainanese
I'm glad you found it insightful!
Lol "That talk"! 😂
Yes have you been grilled too?!! Haha 🤣🤣🤣
🙏Agree. Chinese Lunar New Year for me not the “same”. 🐍
There's always something lacking that you seek being away from home. 🥹
@ yes. But nowadays even home, it’s different. I’ve celebrated in our Chinatown since 1962….last two years, cut back. It just isn’t the same.
Lovely! Thanks for sharing! This dance feels far more mystical and religious than the Southern-style lion dance that is commonly seen in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong today. I prefer this one!
Yes the Hokkien green lion dance is a rather rare sight!
Hey lions gotta eat greens too 😅
Haha yes yes!! 🥬🥬🥬
do you have pictures of the posters behind Sifu?
Yes I do. If you are even in Singapore, the posters and heada are being displayed at the Hainan Hwee Guan along Beach Road (Near Raffles Hotel).
@@HakkaMoi Sadly, I'm not in Singapore Although, I wish I was to be there to learn. I will have to plan a trip to increase my understanding of Hainan Lion. Thank you for taking the time to make these educational videos and, as always, the inspiration to learn
Much appreciated, I'm happy you find these videos of interest and have inspired you. If you drop me an email, I might be able to send you photos of those posters.
Are they Hopeful or Drunken Immortals?
Definitely not all drunken!
Forbidden kingdom is a love letter to the fans. So good.
Interesting!!
Thank you for this video!
You are so welcome!
Would love to see what this kung-fu style look like! Seems marvelous place to visit for training..
They practice heng pai kungfu!! Do reach out to Guang Wu Club via FB or IG!!
How did you find the image of the red idol?
It's from the temple in Taiwan.
Thank you ❤
Thank you for your support! 🙌🏼
Interesting interview 👍👍
I'm glad you found it insightful! 🙌🏼
in 1945, Lee Kuan Yew left China for Singapore Before departing, Mao Zedong gave him Billions of dollars to help the people of Singapore

Merry Christmas to you and your adorable pet. ❤❤❤

Nice! Do they still produce them?
Yes they sure do!
Do they happen to sell them?
Not that I'm aware as they are not lion head makers who takes order requests. This lion dance troupe makes these unique to their troupe Golden Lions for their own performance purposes.
old school lion dance are sadly rare
Yes sadly 😢 The lack in demand and some other challenges pose a steady decline.

Are they in a trance?
No Guan Jiang Shou do not trance, they are different from kitong/tangki/spirit mediums.
Another inspirational video that has led me to look further into Bodhisattva Di Zang Wang Pu Sa. One of my Bodhisattva, in Japan, is Jizo Bosatsu which, it turns out, is the same as Di Zhang Wang Pusa and Kṣitigarbha in India. I would not have learned this about Jizo if it wasn't for your channel. Thanks again for always inspiring me to keep learning. 😆
Yes I have read up about Jizo and have huge respect for Him. It is how these deities are all related is some ways. The Guan Jiang Shou is really interesting too and indigenous to Taiwan but it was brought into Singapore by Shifu Ming Jian. Thank you once again for your support and leaving such encoring comments that makes what I do all the more worthwhile!!
@@HakkaMoi Reading about these deities in addition to the migration of belief has been of interest for many years. I have never been to Singapore but now I will go so I can learn more and to discover further teachings.

There a few "tiger generals" im guessingbhe was from the 3 kingdoms era?haha i was thi ling there was even one during the 20s and 30s warlords era only to recognise warlords era actually was a bit of a recurring theme in Chinese history 😅
The face painting of this tiger general is related to 家将 guards. My face is painted to match 虎頭鍘將軍. The Great Winter God (冬大神): Wears blue gown with painted tiger face (also known as chrysanthemum pattern). He is responsible for the section of threatening criminals in the interrogation of captured ghosts.
Thank you for your insightful videos. Our team in Melbourne is looking forward to eye-dotting a Master Ting Wan Kee Dragon in Melbourne this weekend.

精彩的表演,鼓乐很好听,大戏的风格。I hope I able to watch the performance one day in Sg.😊
Yes their percussions are influenced by Peking Opera which makes these golden lions very unique, not only in how they look but how they dance! Do keep a look out for them performing during special occasions in Singapore! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

wow. very interesting. When I think about 108, I remember learning about the number of sins, desires or defilements in Buddhism. For instance there is an island in Japan that has 108 temples. After visiting all the 108 temples, when you die, you are reborn into one of the enlighten paradises, as visiting the temples sheds all the 108 desire, sins...etc. I suppose doing this pilgrimage I would have nothing to loose and all to gain after death. As always you inspire to keep learning.
Yes the number reference 108 carries many different meanings in the different religions. Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement!
Samsui is a district in Foshan China

I learned about Mazu when I was in Kaohsiung. Thank you for sharing the video as I never considered that Mazu would be worshiped in other areas. This makes sense when I think about geography. Also, was Chairman Wang Zhen Hu saying something about 108 deities? I'm excited to keep learning more about deities throughout Asia.
Glad you found this video helpful! Do stay tuned as there will be other videos explaining stories of the other deities like the 108 brothers by thr Chairman in the coming weeks.
