I've never been the biggest DAYS fan, but this show had real soap values from watching these classic episodes. By the early 80's, the show seemed totally different than what you see here. It was strange mysteries and later possessions.
there is a reason for this : the writer and creator of the show Ted Corday had that writing style and so did William J Bell ( creator of the Young and the restless ) . When Ted Corday died in 1966 William J Bell became the new writer of Days of our lives from 1966 to 1975 .After 1975 when Bell left the show it slowly transformed itself into this action and adventure , mysteries , possessions type of stories , it became frankly quite boring when you didn't have these stories or the Bell type of stories . The show now has Ron Carlivati as its new writer and it has greatly improved . The whole family is watching Days again . Still not what it used to be but a massive improvement though
I agree with most of your comment but you must be joking about Carlivati. He’s a talentless hack who has debased the show even more than it already had been in the past 40 years. Which is saying a lot.
I believe this is actually Thanksgiving 1971. Tom talks about Ben's passing which happened that year when Patricia Barry came back as Addie. Ref.... Days of Our Lives, A Complete Family Album by Lorraine Zenka 1995.
Never watched Days (was a mostly CBS guy) but holiday family scenes like this were the heart and soul of each show.
Oh my goodness, I was only 4 years old, but believe it or not, I remember this. Watched with my sweet mom for years.
Margaret Mason is in this clip as Linda, so this is late 1971. She rejoined the show in the spring of 1975.

The styles do look more 1971.
Show was better back then and had better storylines.
Tom reverenced Scott and Laura not being well. What was wrong?
