For some V-tail passenger get concepts from business to airliner sized, Google up Boeing NLA, SE Aeronautics SE200, Embraer 2022 autonomous concept, NASA CESTOL, OVR-4500 AuroraJet, Eviation Alice, Airbus Concept Plane 2050. The *really* weird stuff is actually even more feasible. Designers are itching to get us unlocked from the past 50 years' meta. Can't ever move forward if we're paralyzed by fear of things that are different!

Not only that, but there are real life aircraft that have V-tails like the Beechcraft Bonanza.
My only real complaint is the cockpit nose one, but it’s not too distracting.

I mean I’m that case what would even be the point in reviewing sets then? If you just pass everything off as “oh it can be customized” then any and all criticism is thrown out the window, and reviews are pointless. Because then you are spending money on what might potentiometers exist after modding rather than what does exist.

The flash on pieces has become a huge problem lately! I've been getting a bunch of pieces with chunks out of them or with excess plastic sticking off pieces that need to be flush up against another one. I've found myself actively checking where the mold mark is on pieces before placing them lately, so I dont have unsightly marks in the sides of my very expensive Lego display pieces. This all is making Lego feel more and more like a knock off version of its previous self. Absolutely sad.

Someday, it would be great to see Lego make a passenger plane that comes with a boarding tunnel. I could see it happening if they released a large-scale airport at the same time that could connect to it. Both sets would probably have to be pretty expensive, though.

I remember either reading or hearing a few years back about how Lego City sets are kind of designed to be set in a more forward-facing version of reality, hence all the sustainable farm-to-table organic markets and solar panels and electric cars in modern sets, and I think the V-tail on this plane is a perfect example of that! I think it’s cool that kids today are playing with toys that demonstrate what our world could be like as opposed to necessarily being completely accurate to what it is. Good set! I like it a lot.

The bent wing is one downside to having a single, large piece like that. I hope you can get it replaced; I noticed it right away from the start of the video, and thought "well, that's unfortunate". Overall though, I agree with you. I used to love the planes from the 80's and 90's at the time, but this one looks much more realistic than those old ones ever did.

    • @thebrickhiker
      @thebrickhiker Год назад +1

I have several of the older designs - they are one single wing - and none of mine are bent; several were purchased used on Bricklink, while others can new with sets I purchased. I don't have this set yet, but just a rough estimate based on this review, and I'd say the 2 pieces are probably within an inch or a couple cm of the same length. But the older wing pieces are thinner.

Okay, so, here I am. A 42yr old guy from the Netherlands watching all these Lego video's of Jang(Bricks). Allthough I am a Lego fan, I do not invest in it, because of, you know, other responsibilities, but I love to watch these videos, of Jang specifically. I don't know what it is. I watch these late at night in bed when my familiy is asleep, because of the very calming, soothing voice of Jang. I like everything about it, the sets, the way you/he talks, the little things that you see in almost all video's where he says 'little bit of a suggestion of , the trying to justify the prices of the sets. It kind of takes me back to when I was a child, and I had a lot of Lego back then. I grew up in the 80's, so I had a lot of Space and Medieval (is that how you write that? you know, knights, castles..) sets. It's kind of like a throwback to my childhood.
So, I would like to thank you sir. For making these video's, for helping me sleep (I know this does not sound like a compliment but it is meant as one), for giving me joy while watching these reviews, for giving me that feeling of wonder, as I had as a child when opening up lego sets I got at birthdays and Christmas.
    Keep 'm coming!

I personally really like the look of the push tug, while it's a bit on the big side, I just think it looks cool.
I just wish the vtail could articulate some (maybe with a mechanism so they move in concert) but that's probably more complex than is appropriate for this age range
Edit: I actually like the flexible wing too, it's actually kinda realistic with modern designs

I'm pleased to see the return of the old small-style wheels and tyres for some of the ground vehicles. I had so many Lego cars that used those years ago, but they've become virtually redundant in recent times. The set overall looks good, still not a fan of the rear stabiliser, but very much liking the engine design.

    • @Howlox
      @Howlox Год назад +12

Because it's more flexible, and therefore less brittle. With a really long, wide, flat piece, you'd rather it have some give and bend than have no give and snap.

as a person who was a child in 2006 who has that plane sitting a few feet from me, I can say that this one gives it a serious run for its money. The interior floor of the plane being flat all the way through and the inclusion of the bathroom and cargo hold make it functionally much better than the 2006 plane. The other accessories I wont compare because that other set was only $40 but just the plane itself is seriously nice this year.

I like the shaping of the wing root area and fuselage belly on this new wing part, as some new real planes have the same bulge to house an optional third fuel tank (instead of a luggage bay) under the floors. The benefit is of course no wing spars in the passenger cabin so more Lego travellers!

  • @kyrian7600

With every new set, it gets harder and harder to justify spending such a premium on the brand name of LEGO. Especially when third party brands are now creating products of equal or greater quality for significantly cheaper. LEGO is charging more than ever before while providing less than ever before.
120 USD for a bent wing and visibly noticeable flash on their pieces is simply unacceptable.

The only problem I have with it is I wish it was just a little bit taller like one more brick tall and like one or two studs in length and then it would be perfect because I'm building it now and putting all the seats with minifigures can be kind of cramped and then there's no space for like a flight attendant to walk the trolley with the drinks they give you to walk down and it can barely fit in as is. That's why I feel like if it was just a little bit taller and a little bit wider it would be perfect

I am split on this set. The plane speaks of an Airbus design, and the inclusion of the V-tail is a fun addition, but the overall design looks too boxy for me. It's so interesting to me that the color scheme of the airplane looks exactly like MALÉV planes. MALÉV used to be the hungarian airlines a long time ago. It since has sadly defunct. Another this thing is not only the colours (dark blue, white, lime) but the logo on it, those triple dark blue lines look soooo similar to the letter M on the MALÉV logo. Since seeing first images, I felt this was going to be the City Plane set I aim to get, and it will be. I think the side builds do what they are intended to, some better built than others but a good range. The overall selection of minifigures fits this set well IMO, and from price (UK especially) to what the designers intended this set to be, I have been satisfied all-round, and that doesn't happen often with large City vehicle sets.

Both the captain and co-pilot have 3 stripes on their uniforms. It means they are only qualified as co-pilot and usually they have less flight time. Usually co-pilots are pilot monitoring not pilot flying so it would be interesting to be a minifig passanger and hearing that both your pilots only have a small amount of flight time and limited experience.

I forgot that this was coming out! As a huge commercial plane enthusiast and LEGO plane fan, this is a must buy for me. [as is the elegant Concorde]. Not a fan of the tow unit, and wish there was an extra baggage cart as that design is so simply and on point - the designer of this plane clearly knows commercial aircraft as there is a lot of pretty dang realistic stuff in this. The new wing piece is epic in design, but flawed in quality. :( Also wishing the mounts for the engines were one or 2 studs further from the fuselage as something about this model makes the engines look too close to the body of the plane for me. Love the cockpit and throttle design, and happy that the new nose piece was packed separately. The brilliant design of the catering cart, scissor lift, and even the luggage tug, is just outstanding. Not a fan of the coloring of the tow vehicle nor the width/size of it. Yes, it needs to be a different color, but I think a pallet that included more orange than that shade of blue, would have made more sense. The interior room is second to none - nothing seems cramped.
The V-tail - I don't mind the look at all, but from what I can see in this video, it looks like one could make a horizontal stab out of the included pieces, and then bricklink the vertical stab. I doubt kids are complaining about the design as much as AFOLs are and AFOLs can just as easily modify the set as kids can [and probably have the pieces to do so quite handy!]. Like EVs, V-tail designs are the future.
The winglet design is unique and I like how curved the look is - not sure about how well those pieces connect to the wing though. I really like the new wing piece, as it clearly has more room for a larger fuselage but making it out of a softer, easier to be bent plastic, is not smart of LEGO. Nor are the all-too-common mold marks on tiles. For me, this is easily worth $100, so a $20 MSRP padding doesn't seem to be too outrageous. I'm sure Amazon will have it on sale in November at $15 off, and since I already missed Day One purchasing, I think I will wait till then [it's so rare and nice to have a year where LEGO releases 2 amazing large plane sets!].
I will say - the plane tow - it should be larger than the luggage tow [bigger onboard engine], but something about the scale of the included one with this set makes it appear *too* big, IMO. And I am not a fan of the color pallet for that vehicle.
Those are all minor nitpicks - I think the biggest issue I'd have with this is more about quality than design. I hope when I do purchase mine, I won't get a Jang "wonky wing" set! [cue R2 wonky prints reference!].

If they’re going for a modern near future aircraft with high bypass turbofans, those engines with the near circular duct and flat bottom already sort of look like LEAP 1-Bs on the 737 MAX Series… engine chevrons (the saw tooth pattern) would have been a great look, with an exhaust cone through the middle like the GEnX, LEAP 1-Bs or the RR Trent 1000. People have done this using octagonal plates with modified 1x2 slopes on hinges on custom F-35s. Would definitely be a cool thing to add, if they want to make it seem more realistic. The front looks like a 787 already…. They clearly have enough room on the back of those engines

This is a really well-done set for the most part. The plane is efficient with lots of room for passengers. It has all the major features of a plane. It's great that all the ground support equipment is there. Really completes the scene and play scenarios.
My only issue is I still don't like that the nose of the plane is just made of two highly specialized pieces. In classic sets that would be made of several pieces, and the same parts could he used for other things like boats, spaceships, cars, etc. This nose section isn't very LEGO-like, more like Playmobil or Fisher-Price.
I am shocked the set is only $120!
Unfortunate about the quality control issues though.

Did anyone modify the tail rudder yet? I didn't buy this set yet, since I already have a significant fleet of planes. A taller than usual brick rudder might fit in well, and I'd add at least another 4-stud window length expansion to it.

5:09 Jang, I also have problems with closing the door on mine. I think it’s just the affect of legos quality decrease.

By far this is the best passenger airplane LEGO has ever proposed even with the fictional V tail and autonomous bus! The only this that old sets have on this is the addition of a terminal, which given the volume of the plane and what you can fit inside I’m totally willing to forgive! As an aircraft enthusiast I really love the catering car and the pushback vehicle. The only way they could’ve made it better is making the catering car separate with its own driver and a bit bigger to be more realistic and fit better on the plane with the door on the plane being a regular door instead of a window. As is i just love it and can see a generation of kids playing with it.

Now, I know they can't really fix this issue I have with it, are the windows, they are square, while I know getting oval windows is probably a bit of a hassle, but the fact is, airplanes have oval windows so they don't explode.
So I just find it funny how its a "modern" airplane with modern wings, but it has windows from the 1930's.

I think that kids are probably going to enjoy this v shape tail, and if an adult is interested in purchasing this set but doesn't like the v-tail, then they can easily modify it. My only gripe is the wing material honestly.

One airline has ordered five thousand Lego planes. But with one modification. They want all the seats moved forward a half stud to accommodate two extra rows of seats.😂

On the wings, I'm torn between wondering if they were trying to produce a large part as (overly) cheaply as possible, or whether they were trying to reproduce the idea of the flexible wings on modern aircraft. I suppose in a way, they could use one as an excuse for the other.

8:20 I bought set 60395 (combo race pack) recently and had a significant number of parts with the same issue. I trimmed the pieces with a hobby knife. Lego isn't Warhammer. I should not have had to do that.
I was planning on getting the TIE Bomber or Executor soon, but now I'm thinking about skipping them.

Great set but it’s unfortunate about the wings and quality control. I saw a post on fb about somebody who had much worse bent wings out of the box than this so it seems that it will be an issue

As someone who sees 737s on a regular basis & knows that the airport isn't going to spring to upgrade to something newer anytime soon, I would prefer to the classic tail over the v-tail. That said, I like the GSE builds a lot, especially the tractor & TLD, so I'm definitely gonna pick it up anyways.

I like the v tail except for the fact that it kinda exposes some parts underneath and the texture of the bottom of the plates just don’t look very good in my opinion but other than that I have no problems with it

the plane itself is really good but the tug is a little off to me. They've been leaning real in to this lime green and blue semi-futuristic aesthetic for lego city but I don't think it really fits something like a runway tug.
