All 4/4. Opening section measures have 16th note groups of (5 - 5 - 7 - 5 - 10) and (5 - 5 - 8 - 5 - 5 - 4), both of which add to 32 (4/4). Middle section is just syncopated 4/4 with the e and a stressed. My favorite part is the end though: (6 - 5 - 5), which is just clean 4/4. However, when introduced in the context of those groups, it has that glitchy, time agnostic feeling at 3:04. Good shit, as always.
If you can count something in 4 doesn't mean it's in 4. The whole concept of academical drumming is based on that because of subdivision and measures. It's just your way interpreting the pulse.
@@tee4222 I wouldnt say that. I just think Tool and Animals as leaders are 2 completely different bands. Matt has more freedom in his drumming with Animals as leaders
@@KilroyKilroy-t6ei would, but not to shit on danny carey. he's actually one of my idols. however, danny doesn't have nearly the same level of improv/technical ability, feel, finesse, rhythmic vocab, and matt's ideas are just mind-bending. i've learned many tool songs and watched tons of videos to know this. matt's just a natural progression of the, uhm, prog drummer lol
@@KilroyKilroy-t6e I would say it. Danny makes great music. He is arguably as good as or even better than Matt at composing music. That said Danny plays way simpler and would struggle to play Matts drum parts and yet Matt could easily play any Tool song.
I am a big Tool fan and Danny Carey is incredible. Bug Matt is one of the best drummers I’ve ever very seen or heard! So smooth and clean! Finesse and power and unbelievable skills.
Matt plays from a world that he relates to ….. he feels these grooves and speaks to us by means of polyrhythms and odd syncopation …. And yeah I’m jamming can you dig it …. Yet so humble

I love the way Matt almost slaps the Cymbals similar to danny Carey. Both dudes are on top of the world at drumming
As a huge tool and Danny Carey fan, Matt’s on a whole different level.

The drummer departs and returns multiple times. A built-in metronome.
