Fact is, it could have been decent if they didn't jump on the "you're all sexist" bandwagon in the advertising, and also just had better writing. Ghostbusters 1 and 2 were very smart movies that blended comedy and horror perfectly, and I think the writing of the video game was the same (just that final level on Hard was bullshit). The girl movie was an expensive episode of Scooby-Doo.

GB is a franchise, Acroid helped write the originals with the now deceased Ramis, the studio decidedto ruin it as studios do, I think Dan doesn't want to see his and Ramis's baby die so he's decides to try and get hype to fix it. He was under contract to appear in a movie for the studio he thought it would have been his but the studio screwed him as much as the fans with the chick reboot..

Gnomeo and Juliet is a good example; it had pretty meh reviews all around, mostly negative (equal to Ghostbusters 2016). But it was a box office success so they made Sherlock Gnomes.

*You* know nothing of the film industry of you honestly think that just because a movie made more than its budget at the box office it was a success. Marketing alone costs millions of dollars and they even reshot an entire scene after production ended. The movie was a failure, get educated and grow a pair before you get triggered and stout spouting fallacies.

C'mon Dan has a monetary stake in all things Ghostbusters, so yeah, he's going to give a great review of all things GB... not to mention Sony will have his ball's if he talks it down.
I think he was actually being honest. I do think that the money drove the entire trek of that movie and if the budget was smaller then the potential of the film would have been largely left up to the cast. All four of the ladies are great and I think they could have made a good movie and I don't think they were the main reason the new Ghostbusters was bad. It was the film making and screen play that stunk it up.

I remember seeing this a day or two before the first teaser for Ghostbusters Afterlife and really wanting to believe Dan Akyroyd, but when the first teaser dropped my doubts were crushed and I was so happy it was happening. And I am writing this mere hours before I see the final movie.

@Inside Barry's Mind It's always a shame, Harold Ramis' passing was like one of the Beatles dying and Dan losing John is like Stan Laurel losing Oliver Hardy, the classic double act/ensemble comedy cast. I'm actually looking forward to what Jason Reitman could do with this franchise, given that he's directing it that's certainly better than a Paul Feig-type director, but until the movie is out we'll never really know.

They also paid critics to say good things about the movie and you think why would any company do this, well if you spent $144 million, plus a shit load more on advertisement and merchandise, you pretty much would say or do anything as well to ensure your movie would profit and keep your stock shares up. All I can say is thank fuck they are not going to do a sequel to this abomination.

My wife thought I was sexist because I didn't like the new version of Ghostbusters. It's not that it's just when you see the original with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd Harold Ramis Ernie Hudson Sigourney Weaver Rick Moranis. You don't want to see a reboot with an all-new cast and have the original cast just do cameos. I felt like it was an insult to all that was involved in the original. That's like if they redid the Blues Brothers again which I hope they never ever do because it's a classic and some films should just be left alone

I'm not getting my hopes up, personally. He's been saying this same line for decades, and we're still no closer to a proper GB3 than we were when Harold Ramis was still alive.
GB3 is the Half-Life 3 of movies (or, more accurately, Half-Life 3 is the GB3 of video games), every once in a while some little tidbit or promise or rumor will come out just to stir up hopes and hype, but then it disappears like steam in the wind.
At this point, most GB fans have accepted the 2009 video game to be GB3 and moved on.
They really should!!! The fans would love it!!!

If you want a Ghostbusters 3 movie it should start with the funeral of Egon. Ray, peter and Winston haven't really spoke tidy for a good 15 years, theyre friends but after a few big ghostbusting things they went their seperate ways But they all meet again in his funeral where they meet egons son. And Ray has a partner and still sells occult books, Winston is living in the fire station but it's being used as something else now and he's the boss like a gas company or plumber. Lewis and Janine are in the movie and Lewis is still involved in law after being a Ghostbuster for 10 years they both left have kids now too, Peter had a son Oscar who he never knew was his but Dana told him and they're trying to make a bond late in life. so now you have youngsters who know about Ghostbusters but it's like a myth and after a few incidents in N.Y. ray needs the guys help but they're getting old so they train the new kids and they're own kids and then they join together and pass the torch to them but they still appear in further movies as main characters but withought doing to much busting because the new guys are now the Ghostbusters they become better parents and mentors in the long run. Do a trilogy ending with them all having felt they finally made something of Ghostbusters in their eyes and now the kids I say kids they'd be in their 20s 30s but yeah it's not to hard to make a movie, and no shitty cgi use old practical effects where ever you can and don't aim it at kids aim in at adults but kid friendly like 80s movies were
I essentially agree. Only difference is I'd tie the cartoon and comics into as in universe merchandise. People always come up to the GBs and want to talk about "slimer" as if he lived with them "irl". So this fanboyism is partly what drives them apart. The commercialism which vankman pushed for is why the public began to believe the staypuff and Vigo incidents where hoxes.
So skipp ahead to the Early 2000's and the TV series like "Ghosthunters" making a mockery of what the GBs accomplished. Now instead of busting ghosts Rey and Winston make a living going to conventions. The firehouse gets purchased and rebuilt by a group of fans with REAL paranormal experiences who want to continue the legacy of thier heroes.
Bill mury as far as I care can go make something else and let people who want to make Ghostbusters make Ghostbusters again.
No, no, NO! Do not start a long awaited sequel with “they havent seen eachother for xx years” and then we have to hear what they did for all those years. They did it in Indy 4, Dumb and Dumber 2, Star Wars 7, Independence Day 2... The list is long. Just start the movie. They are going out on a new adventure! And then spice it up with some exposition when NEEDED.

It is unrealistic that the four men have not moved out of the fire house and not had wives or kids. If they are still in the firehouse running round busting ghosts in thier golden years, no families that would be the most tragic ending to a beloved franchise ever. (Including Logan "ending" the X-films)
Hell, they had already broke up before the Vego incident in GB2. and that was 1990 as the cartoon's popularity and the toy sales started to decline... That's the type of street that breaks friendships and businesses.
Besides no getting around that Egon is dead. Either that had to have been a moment that split them up in the past or a moment that has reunited them in the present. Best to get the bummer shit out of the way first so the rest of the film is free to go into new and funny story.

Eugene Levy as Egon's brother, equally a weird genius. Have him being carrying on the torch for his passed on brother, even open the movie with Egon's funeral so Egon's death is like what helps galvanize them to get the band back together, as others here suggested. Ray is still running his occult bookstore but because bookstores struggle more these days he has had to expand to selling Ghostbusters memorabilia. Show him dealing with hipster kids coming into the store who think Ghostbusters is now an ironically cool thing, so also still treat it as sort of a joke. Peter and Dana are married, and are co-authors together of fictional books about the paranormal. Winston now owns an auto garage in the old Ghostbusters headquarters.
Oscar is grown now, he's 30 by this time, and he has followed in his parents' footsteps in a way making a living as a social media-based "ghost hunter" who is actually just putting on a fake show and a cynic about what the guys did, so it's almost like Malcolm McDowell in Fright Night situation where the phony cynic showman encounters the real thing, so he has an arc. Winston's daughter is a new lawyer working at the firm owned by Louis Tully. She could be the person to encounter a ghost in the cold open that every Ghostbusters movie must have. So she goes to Egon and Jeanine's nerdy son who is a graduate student at the university Venkman got fired from (was it supposed to be NYU?) researching weird phenomenon in the universe, and he helps her figure out what is going on. They go to Ray for help, who believes them, and he tries to convince Pete who is skeptical while Winston's daughter tries to convince his skeptical father. Ray, Egon's kid, and Winston's kid also get the idea to go to Oscar for his help in documenting the new phenomenon although he at first sees it as just another fake social media gig. There is also a whiz kid mechanic working at Winston's garage who specialized in really technical, modern stuff. A young Puerto Rican dude, say late mid to late 20's. He would be the "new Winston" as the more working-class guy brought on to the team.
This is legitimately better than anything I expect to come out of Hollywood.

Considering Eugene was going to be Louis Tully's cousin in Ghostbusters 2 (there are pictures of him as the character in some of the press kits), this could be a possibility I could see happening.
Love Dan Aykroyd!!! He's a childhood hero of mine & Ghostbusters 2 is my favourite movie of all time!!! I also liked the reboot & team but obviously nothing beats the original team & i can't wait for part 3!!! Been waiting since i was a kid

Have a 3rd with dan and bill etc, They are retiring and are training and franchising it out, so theres a Ghostbusters LA, with ben stiller and owen wilson, Ghostbusters London with simon pegg blah blahblah..... etc etc. Different old ghost stories and legends for each movie and location its set in. Infact make this a tv show.

I actually said if they did a female GB then they should've had (brace yourself as I know nobody likes her) Amy Shumer, Sarah Silverman and Deborah Wilson from Mad TV as the Ray, Egon and black everyman characters respectively as I think they could fit those roles, I just had no one for the Peter role cos frankly what female is Bill Murray's equivalent? But failing that they could've just had the women be the daughter's of the original guys who think their father's are crazy and have no interest in ghost busting until they have some out of world experience and because they all need the money they begrudgingly get together.
No replacing Harold Ramis, of course, but maybe bring in Eugene Levy as his brother or cousin. Has to be an SCTV or Radio Hour alum to work.
They could bring Harold's boy on board.....

I love Dan.....hope Sony are listening to him. Its a crime they have ignored him all these years, Sony bosses robbed us of a true Ghostbusters sequel. Hopefully there is some real substance to this and Sony find a way to incorporate the remaining busters into a new franchise. Be great to see characters relatives take over or be involved in some way.

Yeah, Bridesmaids is genuinely funny. I've seen it three times now, and I laugh every time. Ghostbusters was about as funny as genocide.

Waluigi Wah Ha Ha how about egon died in an experiment and is now a ghost training new Ghostbusters, 20 years on and you don't think venkman would be franchised ghostbusting out like mcdonalds "you too can buy your very own protopack ans deposit your ghosts at your local ecti containment unit". I do believe winston would've become a funeral director "I prefer the dead to stay dead" , Ray would still be working the same station with Janine and Tully. Oscar all grown up would have been working closely with egon and may take up that mantle of scientist maybe being possessed occasionally by egon. I liked the lay lines ideas in Ghostbusters 2016 gives the story an opportunity to go global. This introduces a chance to do an all star cast and create ghosts from different cultures and historical ties. Maybe even showing how slimer died.
With all that as a backdrop create a new cast of Ghostbusters with a line up of comedic actors from now, also make it rude and crude like a Sacha Barron Cohen movie.
A Ghostbusters movie should unite people. I look back and think holy sh#t venkman is a creep but he wins his girl over. The 2016 movie was not a good watch, it felt like a giant middle finger to men and I don't think we deserve that. It's ingrained in culture portrayals of men heading off to die for our countries as disposable heroes to keep the world turning. Films like Alien which I love being described as feminist where as equally I'd class Rambo and falling down as a feminist movie. We men are not perfect nor are women. Striving to be your best is great striving for perfection isn't, but doing things at the expense of others is poisonous to society. I classify Ghostbusters 2016 as an inflamattory stab at society and shouldn't be considered entertainment. In the same way 12 years a slave isn't an entertaining film it's a masterful depiction of the harrowing nature of our history, the path towards better equal rights shouldn't be fought from the perspective of one group. Keep it out of cinema and the much loved franchises of the pre-millenial society. Make your own world with your own heroes do not gender flip and bastardise our memories for your political stances.
Bring us a varied all star cast of all ages. Ellen paige, elizabeth winstead, tig notora, sarah silverman, Janeane Garofalo, patrick Stewart, Seth McFarlane, Sacha Barron Cohen, (Richard Ayoade, David Mitchell, Simon Peggy, Eddie Izzard, as vicars from the uk) Chris rock, Ralph fiennes, Kevin hart(haunted by the kkk) Joseph gorden levett
Litter this new movie with cameos galore make the jokes controversial and entertaining. This movie should say conclusively we want and inclusive world but f#ck pc culture, people shouldn't be forced to enjoy mediocre films. Demonstrate those inconsistencies in treatment of people, highlight historical problems and laugh at it because we have a better future.

Dan and I differ greatly on the opinion of the quality of the 2016 Reboot.. I am SUPREMELY glad there will not be a sequel to that tangent in the GB Universe.

John231984 why not let him voice a dead egon returning as... a ghost! Then usage of old Ramis photo can uses together with CGI. It do not need to look perfect. The “ghost distortion filter would fix most of the stuff by itself”

OK, If they make a movie with original cast, they need just a simple linear self consistent story and a well written bad guy. If Rick Moranis appears even in a short cameo, such a movie would break the box office.

Why do you think Harold Ramis and Bill Murray were fueding all those years only making amends with each other just before Harold died? Harold (the co writer of the original movies) wrote multiple scripts to make a #3, Bill was the ONLY hold out. He fucked us fans for years all because of his ego. They made it well known they wanted to a #3 shortly after 1989 (when #2 was made) but they wouldn't do it without Bill out of respect. Multiple cast members have went on record saying so. They should of left his ass on the curb and made #3 a long time ago.

Dan seems confident that it's going to happen, but since he used the the words "may happen" it is certainly not a given. But he thinks Bill Murray will do it so the script must really be something.
Unfortunately I feel the ship has sailed on this idea. It's not going to be the same without Harold Ramis and the guys are noticeably much older. It's going to be a pass the torch movie, it's unavoidable.
That being said IF this actually goes into full production and gets completed I'm going to see it. But I'd caution people who do the same to lower their expectations a lot.

He is such an underrated actor. He is great on Frank & Gracie on Netflix. Seen him here and there on TV and films. Hollywood is a hell hole that doesn't reward good natured people. I grew up in L.A. "City of fallen angels" perhaps. Never met the guy, but I've heard stories from people who do know him that speak very well about him.
