Although, it can also have an alternate meaning - perhaps a parent who has scarred one of their children deeply and refuses to see the result of their actions (basically someone unreachable, unchangeable, unwilling to admit or accept wrong-doing, etc.). It really depends on how the listener wants to take in the lyrics. Words are funny in that way - they can be used in many ways. I like to hear this as a song about God though - it's more positive in that way :)
