Sorry to hear that but probably a blessing that it happened where there. I can confirm it was truly evil on Hickling as our rudder sheared off underwater which was game over for us. Punt 97 (who started with you guys)
Great story. If you need a more sturdy boat next time we would be happy to lend you one of our mk2 wayfarers !! ha. Our Sea Scout crew managed to get back to Horning by a combination of sailing, capsizing and heroic bailing.
Haha, every year we've done it, it's been pretty good winds, and it always suits the Wayfarers whilst we're a bit overpowered. I'd be tempted to try it in one, but I know if I did, we'd have light winds and I'd be longing for the tall rig of a Rater! Well done to your Sea Scouts for finishing. 👍
My six favourite regattas, not in any order: three rivers race, Barton regatta, antigua classic regatta, West Indies regatta (st Barth’s), Carriacou regatta, foxys wooden boat regatta.
Hello Don. Commiserations & congratulations to all the crew for minimising the damage to Tara. Did the luff of the jib tear as it took over the role of the forestay? When I saw how the wire had apparently pulled out the ferrule, I was immediately reminded why Leo chose Dyneema for the standing rigging on Tally Ho: Building TALLY HO's rig - a complex process! Would Dyneema be acceptable for Thames A-Rater class rules? Cordially, Perry
Hello Perry. I haven't been able to give a close look to where the tear is in the jib (I'm not the owner, I just crew for him), but I believe that one of the plastic battens got forced out of its pocket and stabbed a hole in the sail. I'm not sure if Dyneema is allowed under class rules, but I will mention it to the owner, he was saying that he's going to get a stronger forestay for next year's 3RR!
Good story but was really just for you... the rest of the world can slumber on ... lol I love your boats but I don't know about all those narrow channels and bridges... lol
I'm glad you shared it with me! :) Oh, and we never even got to the really narrow bridge in the race! If you have a look at last year's race ruclips.net/video/xQzbZ6rFd8U/видео.html at 00:50 we go through Potter Heigham old bridge, which has been around since the 1300s. The tidal flow through that is pretty intense!
Kudos for very clear pronounciation. Despite impaired hearing I can understand the narrative 100% without effort.
bad luck with the forestay! looking forward to seeing lady garnett in construction! I was on Sundew w18 sail in your acle bridge footage :-)
Thank you! Sundew is a lovely boat, but she's from Hunter's Yard so of course she's lovely! How did the race go for you?

Oof, that must have been a nasty shock, sorry to hear that. Were you the pink-hulled punt?

I'd really like to get into sailing too... Need to find the right time to do the RYA courses.

Such a niche racing event.
