The militia of the 1700's was comprised of all people able to form and fight when needed. The militia was nothing to be controlled by the government such as Army National Guard. Also, the recent supreme court decision, DC v Heller determined the people's right to bear arms detached from any involvement in a modern militia.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" see that thats my argument and you can't argue with me anymore
@MegaWinnieGirl True. It was a statistical generalization. My point was that no one has the right to deprive women of the right to defend themselves, by whatever means women see fit. During the Paleolithic Era, males routinely did whatever they wished to women they encountered. With the invention of firearms, any woman who has the strength to pull a trigger, can prevent a male predator from overpowering her. Women must not be deprived of this option.
@Jay16King It's certainly your right to use what you consider "often more effective" means. But if a woman or other vulnerable individual feels otherwise, it's really not your call.
In CA you can only buy one pistol a mouth period.You need a valid CA Id.Prof of residence in form of utility bill,drivers registration,or lease agreement.Pass a 30 question multiple choice test.Give a thumb print. Pass a Department of Justice background check.Wait 10 days called cooling of period.Go back to gun shop. Pass a hands on unloading demonstration.Then the handguns all yours.Next have fun shoot your pistol with 10 round magazines. Last but most important, repeat process next month.
They need to regulate guns more. Guns should only be allowed if the person has a licence, which would have an ID number which would be ingraved on the gun. People could not own guns in a built up area; you can only have a gun if your in a relatively remote area eg on a farm, ranch or large estate. For personal protection people could have tasers and mace/pepper spray.
Gun controls in any state probably will not work because so many people already have weapons and it is so easy to transport arms from one state to another. Places like Chicago can try all they want to enforce gun control, but people can easily bring in guns from elsewhere. The controls will fail. Even if the national majority wanted to reduce gun ownership or gun crime, it's going to be hard to do as gun ownership has been so widespread for so long
@pwl1980 I agree. I don't think it should required to buy one but education never hurts. When I was growing up in the late 60s & 70s it was normal for kids to learn about guns and we knew not to touch it when an adult wasnt there. Our curiosity was satisfied under adult supervision. Nowadays they just tell kids to not touch it. They are curious about them but know nothing. Not a good combination in my opinion.
@chilledification If you want to depend on mace or a taser (not tazzer), you have the right to do so. You do not have the right to forbid others to defend their own lives with other means. Their lives are theirs. They don't belong to you. It's simply not your call. That's the meaning of the term "individual rights." They belong to the individual, not to self-appointed spokesmen for "society as a whole."
Yes, I get my understanding of English society from the movie Robin Hood with Kevin Costner; or maybe I was speaking metaphorically, comparing the draconian gun laws of the UK, (that limits a person to call himself free and independent), to a feudal time when the peasants were at the mercy of the King.
@Edgehead10075 : you don't agree with that assumption but if you look at countries where there is gun control, you'll see that it's not an assumption. Your murder rate (and accidents) is not just because of guns. "Bowling for columbine" suggests there is also a culture of fear in USA. Guns "less available" means some degree of control. Not a total ban. Like the need for registration, and enforcing people to keep guns in safe boxes (eg. 6-digit lock) when not at home or in a shooting range
The highest total crime rate of any state, except for the District of Columbia, was found in Arizona, followed by South Carolina. The crime rate in Arizona was 46.82% above the national average and three and half (3.5) times as high as that of New Hampshire, America's safest state. Il lgive you a reason why DC is so has such a high crime rate....because its compeltely urbanised

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" see that thats my argument and you can't argue with me anymore
jordon pierce Ah, American brainwashing.
jordon pierce LOL
+Aruxion Jordon is right. We have a Constitution you statist fuck.
Hell yea anyone says otherwise can get the fuck out of here
I'm laughing so hard at how cringe you guys are xD
Interesting that this popped up in my feed now
'we used to give guns away to the boy scouts'
'ye that's a good idea'
Glasgow Smiley is obviously from Glasgow in Scotland.
that is why there are handgun training courses to take. I believe that there should be strict regulations on guns, but there should not be a ban.
@MegaWinnieGirl
True.
Aye fo real.
Big up yourself.
@Jay16King
It's certainly your right to use what you consider "often more effective" means.
Yeah, which is actually a pretty logical system that's being considered by a lot of states. Raising taxes significantly on ammunition...
So clever questions.
The link in the description still works to this day... what a goat
@chilledification
If you want to depend on mace or a taser (not tazzer), you have the right to do so.
You do not have the right to forbid others to defend their own lives with other means. Their lives are theirs. They don't belong to you. It's simply not your call.
That's the meaning of the term "individual rights." They belong to the individual, not to self-appointed spokesmen for "society as a whole."
Why don't you just call me a poopie head? It would carry the same weight as all your other attempts to insult me lol.
“Aight thanks a lot” 💀
@kirked007 Your question sums up my point exactly!. People outside America in developed countries cannot understand USA citizens obsession with guns. Why do people in the USA want to carry guns?
@jazzx251 they were carrying semi-automatic's not full auto's.
