As a Swiss paraglider i'm surpriesed how fast you can become a pilot in other countries. I had to do a theoratical test in different topics like weather, material, swiss flightsectors or fligh rules with about 80 multiple choice question. I had to have at least 50 flights to go to the practical test where i had to pass 2 of 3 flights with some flight maneuver like: do a backward start, fly two cicles in 20 seconds and land inside of a ø30m circle. Everything was controlled by the swiss paragliding assotiation.

Sounds like a solid requirement but also a bit cumbersome and expensive. Do you think an extensive training like this is necessary or could you just get extra training if the area requires this of you? eg an area with treacherous winds. I`m thinking about getting off the ground in a "basic" course as shown here. I would appreciate your input!

Also in Italy, this would be a first course. Then you need a much longer course to get the license to fly alone.

I am from Ecuador, and I learned by myself, just reading and watching videos on youtube. What a difference to have instructors such as the ones on this video. It would have solved many errors, mistakes and errors I have commited. This is a extremely dangerous sport if not properly learned. Great video, great teaching

I wish my flight school was as professional and caring as yours. Today I witnessed a crash because the instructor on the landing site couldn't follow the student(maybe he was busy doing something else) and she applied full brakes too early and fell down from a height. She broke her back and was in a lot of pain. It was one of her first flights... The ambulance took her and the flights have continued as nothing has happened. Before the crash, the instructors told me that they forgot to bring my wing and it would be OK if I used the smaller wing which the weight limit was lower than my weight. I had never flown with this wing and I got nervous because there was almost no wind and I had to run a lot during the takeoff and landing... After seeing the crash and all of this, I refused to fly. Seeing that poor girl in so much pain in the ER and all of this bullcrap, I gave up on paragliding... Because where I am, there is not a lot of options when it comes to flight schools and this school was supposed to be the best... From your videos, I understand that you do this job right. Thanks for caring for the lives of your students and doing a good job. Hope some people (so called instructors) could learn something from your videos.

Hi Maker. I'm very sad to hear about your bad experience. I hope the girl made a full recovery?
The truth is that learning to fly is not without risks, but we can keep these risks to a minimum by learning progressively at the right pace for each student and of course making safety the number one priority.
I'm sorry if you've been put off continuing with the sport, but after your experience it's easy to understand. If you do give it another chance I wish you much better luck. Peace

@@passionparagliding3994 Unfortunately she injured her L1 section of the spine and she will have to go through surgery. After the crash she had pain but she could move her legs and everything, so it makes me hopeful that she won't have any permanent injury, though there is always a risk in a surgery.. It is sad that such a small mistake caused something that will effect her life in this scale... I hope that the surgery goes well and she recovers fully and she puts all of this behind. I’ve always wanted to become a pilot but I lost my eye 3 years ago in a pellet gun accident. For those who don’t know, you have to have 20/20 vision to become a pilot. I’ve always depended on glasses but up until I lost my eye, I planned on getting plastic eye surgery. This video has motivated me to get into the hobby of paragliding and perhaps start my own school to teach others like myself who may be unable to achieve their flying goals

Great video! I’m actually in the middle of a course now. I’m an American living in Beijing, China. There’s a small club here just north of the city and my instructor has a bit over 30 years experience. Being a 17,000 hour helicopter pilot myself the theory, air law, weather etc all come to me fairly quickly as you’d expect. I’ve had 5 ground handling lessons of about 4 hours each with a couple different sized wings and tomorrow we are driving to the seaside where the wind is a little more reliable and I will do my first flights on a low gradient hillside. Looking forward to it. Maybe when the pandemic has been relegated to the land of bad dreams I can come out there for a visit and a fly. Thanks for posting the video.

Highly recommend this School, everything was very controlled, methodical and disciplined, I felt more nervous sitting on the back of a horse. Course was confidence-inspiring and held in the most beautiful setting of Ager; I recommend spending a few days in Barcelona either side of the course but it is a great way to learn a new skill in a safe fashion and take your life in a new direction with trips and meeting people with a shared interest. We had a lady in my group, I don't know why women seem so under-represented in this sport/hobby/pastime because it is not a male reserve and requires only a reasonable levels of unfitness to get a Wing off the ground. Would highly recommend this as a week away for the girls or an activity-based Hen night with a difference. I'll be in within a couple of months for the CP course after the August break, so glad I chose Passion Paragliding, very reassuring.

Missed out the summitless hill climbs in baking hot heat, the draggings, the endless hours sat on the side of the hill and the fence collisions. Not to forget the messed up launches with every man and his dog watching. Getting to watch the casualties being airlifted from the mountain. Dealing with tangled lines, over and over. Wondering what that tearing noise is coming from your harness 500m above some powerlines. The crash landings, the being ripped off your feet. Being thrown about all over the sky. That point where you realise you're flying backwards, over a village. Great fun though.

I'm a 63 year old paraglider student. I wish I had started this 10 years ago. One thing is you need to be more fit that I am. I'm a power point/excel engineer which means I'm out of shape. It took me 5 lessons to not be so tired learning to Kite and to make the hike back up after a cliff launch and flight. I'm now half way in shape to get good kiting practice. But the instructors are not giving me any slack and I dont ask for any. So if you're out of shape get in shape before you take lessons. (Or find a school that trucks you back up the cliff).
I dont know how anyone can become a P1 is a day. Maybe after 3 or 4 days. Maybe some place with calm weather? who knows.
Anyway if you are thinking about it just do it, before you physically cant.

Very good video. It might be worth making clear in the kit familiarisation bit that the kit belongs to the school and you don't have to make any investment in kit until you know you want to carry on. Obvious if you know how most schools work, but not necessarily to someone watching the video...

So am I! I go dizzy every time I look over an ledge. But it's kinda funny, like it tickles. I have flown a few times and once you feel confident in the pull in the harness, the height is no longer height, it's like looking down on a toy town! Then any vertigo just adds to an adrenaline rush

Hi will there always be wind to enable one to fly?And how to scout for good landscapes or places ideal to do paragliding. Cud u share some examples please? Thank u

    • @iangrace232
      @iangrace232 3 года назад

As you will learn on the course, you do not necessarily need wind to fly - too much wind is more of a problem for paragliders, the direction of the wind is crucial too, particularly for beginners. I would highly recommend this course.

Hi, thank you for a really informative video. I recently went out in a tandem with my uncle whose been doing it for 40 years, and I've now fallen in love with paragliding and want to learn. I'm trying to figure out whether to learn at a BHPA registered school in the UK or abroad. I live in Plymouth & over an hour from the nearest school, so I considered looking at one abroad to save time and money. My only query is, how well do the nicer conditions at schools such as yours prepare you for flying in the UK, where as you say, the weather is so much windier and unpredictable???
