I love tactical wargames but I'm so bad at them. I can never work out how to optimise use of the various unit types at a tactical level. I find games on a bigger scale easier to play and comprehend, e.g. corps or divisions.
I find it interesting that you have transported WW1 in East Africa to US Civil War Virginia via your choice of map. The one war had Europeans fighting over African land with African Colonial troops on both sides. The other had two groups of white Americans in awar about the status of enslaved Africans, with former slaves and freedmen joining the fight for freedom on the side of the North.
