  • It was an great experience to meet for a one-on-one conversation with Police Officer Roger Alexander, known for his candid declaration, "I'm as Real as It Gets!" During our discussion, I aimed to delve deep into the roots of the extreme criminal activity plaguing Port of Spain, seeking insights from one of Trinidad's most renowned and respected law enforcement figures.

Chris, I'm a Trini living in Vancouver, been an expat in Canada for 65 years, and lived in Ontario, Manitoba, Yukon, Alberta and BC, and traveled thru the USA in the 70-80's and have had many profound experiences. This interview is one of the most profound because it uncovers at least one layer of truth about the dynamics of the gang life.
I pray that this interview will be seen in the future as being the trigger for the eventual total transformation in the hearts of the Gang members in Trinidad, and maybe, even other countries.
Your videos could do miracles for these gang members.
You have shown the world (and mostly people still resident "back home") the HURTING HEARTS of some very peace loving, and peace DESIRING, but also very strong, very loyal, very determined human beings, in one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL countries anywhere on this planet !
Chris, I think the fact that you "were born without fear" allows the Love for your fellow human being to just flow out of you. People trust you and feel safe with you because they feel your love, sincerity and your genuineness.
You really do want to see an end to what seems to us outsiders as senseless violence and murder. And I do also, but I think you know where the REAL change that brings LASTING PEACE has to take place. It has to be in the hearts of the Gang Leaders and Members themselves.
Where hard drugs like coke, crack, heroin, and uppers are involved, it's hard for those involved to talk to the enemy for "peace", it's almost impossible to DECIDE to "give up the life, the cash flow, the girls, the adren-rush of the "cool play" ... for what? An uncertain peace and what looks from that side like a dull, boring life.
It is possible, however. It has happened before in history. It always takes the Strength, Courage, and WILLINGNESS of just one Gang Leader(s) to agree to FORGIVE THAT ONE THING (a betrayal, a theft, a murder) that was done to them, or someone close to them "donkey years ago now"! .
This One Courageous Leader will have found it in his heart to say, "This hatred must stop. WE MUST REMEMBER: WE ARE, AND WE ALWAYS WERE, BROTHERS FIRST OF ALL!"
Chris, your videos are historic and priceless. Trinidad & Tobago owes you a huge debt of gratitude for what you have uncovered and shown the rest of the country and the world. I remember when I still lived in T'dad in the 50's, everyone in the rest of the island was afraid of "The Buntas" (short for ''marabunta"...a hornet indigenous to the tropics with a very bad sting) as the gang "Up in Lavantille" called themselves. .
I don't know about "dem 'Buntas from the 50's up in Lavantille" but everyone you featured from "Up in Lavantille and Belmont" are people who have good hearts and souls. One can feel their honesty and sincere desire for peace, security and a desire for purposeful work!
I believe that PRAYER will help speed the manifestation of the intentions of honest and sincere hearts.
Stay Fearless, Loving and down to Earth, Chris. And may The Lord Jesus Christ, who is obviously leading, protecting and using you as an instrument of His desired reconciliation between peoples, continue to bless you with such true friends and family all over the world, and especially in Trinidad & Tobago.
Officer Alexander, Thank you, Sir, for granting this historic interview. You are a brave man indeed, for I know how vulnerable you and your loved ones must be, but I believe the Lord Jesus is also protecting and guiding you and yours.
You'll see that your interview is part of His Great Plan of Peace for Trinidad & Tobago. May God continue to bless you, Officer Alexander.

Chris, one of your best videos. Real issues and as Mr. Alexander said, no simple answers. Parents and family members need to be honest with the members of their families involvement with gangs and crimes. Until all involved take responsibility the finger pointing will never stop.
So many Trinidadians living abroad refusing to go home due to the neighborhood gangs and shootings. There needs to be new laws regarding ownership and seizures of guns. No one should be able to walk the streets proudly showing off weapons. The entire legal system needs an overhaul.
So sad to see younger children seeing people dying due to gun violence and normalizing this behaviour.
Opportunities must be created to or the youths and adults to find HOPE. Without Hope what are the aspirations for change.
Well done Chris. Hoping for the best for the people and country
      Safe travels.❤❤✌️✌️

👏🏾 👍🏾🙏🏾 Your RUclips series on TnT has been an excellent source of information for me in understanding the state of play on the streets and how it has effected the society of my home from home! My parents were from Trinidad but I was born and raised in England but have lived in Sweden since 1987, I had visited Trinidad several times in the early nineties but even back then as tourists, we had to be careful. I then decided that all my future holidays would be in Tobago because the shit that was happening in Trinidad had not spread there! I have stayed in Tobago many times sometimes up to three months at a time over the decades with breaks of several years in between! With every return trip to Tobago, I could see and feel a negative change and attitude from the younger generations coming up! My last trip in Tobago was almost twenty years ago, because on that trip I experienced several uncomfortable situations with gangs on the Island that could have put my family at risk! I LOVE Tobago and have been waiting for things to get better so as to continue my vacations there, however, all my present research has led me to the realisation that I shall just have to live with the fond memories now that Tobago has become just like Trinidad! 😥 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇸🇪🇹🇹

Chris I love how you answered your question. On who is to blame. Most Trinidadians would point to the government. If you didn’t interject. He might of said the same thing. If you go on the ( ministry of Youth development and national service.)You would see how much programs, trade schools, makeshift work programs. You have parents that drop out of schools. These are some of the women and men having kids with each other. The men looking for easy money. The women looking for easy money from these men. So this is the environment that these kids are growing up into. Don’t worry with some of these men. Even if they get jobs. They cannot leave their neighborhoods. Because of their lifestyle. But it’s easy to blame the government. That’s the mindset of a lot of Trinidadians. Citizens in this country. Gets free medical treatment, free medicine, free hospital stay, free education. Up To University. Some pay next to nothing. Subsidized electricity, gas, water. Grants to fix their homes, food cards, community centers in every neighborhood, feeding programs in schools. Things that . NGOs do in other countries. They want the government to do also. They don’t know. The government has billions in loans to pay to lenders . Plus run a country. Not saying government gets free a pass. But the responsibility of raising law abiding kids. Starts at home. Thank you for not buying into all the fluff. I would like viewers. To go on the youth ministry website. And not just go off what is being said in public. It has lawyers, teachers. That came out of some of those ghettos. Their parents push them to be better and want better for themselves.

The gangster lifestyle is not indigenous to Trinidad and Tobago. In the early 90s, the US govt deported criminals back to Trinidad. Our govt was not advised apparently and these men recreated the gangs they belonged to in the US here. The gangs in the US are tied into their music industry they came here and replicated that. They also came from Jamaica.

Chris. I'd never tell you how to do your videos but, some of the audio is suffering and occasionally the video will cut out to a green flash. You do great work. Please consider external mics. I know you shoot with a small camera so if externals aren't an option, maybe a new one? It would suck if the green flash ended up corrupting an interview or entire card. Take care sir. Keep up the great work!

The effects of colonialism still exist. This man went to Trinidad as a visitor with the intention of making money. That's a business trip. He was robbing the country and its people of taxes. Also, he's a liar. He was arrested and deported from Somalia for disrespecting their culture.

    • @antoniotula262

Robbing of taxes how??.... I saw in comments on another video that something happened in Somalia, but I don't know what and I only heard of this guy few days ago.

    • @Jay-hr3rh
      @Jay-hr3rh 8 месяцев назад +1

@antoniotula262 If you are to enter a country for financial gains, that's a business trip. You pay taxes on your gains. Just as the local do.
In Somalia, he was arrested and deported for treating poor and homeless people with disrespect. He was throwing money at them like he was feeding chickens. That did not go down too well with the locals.

A lot of them don’t require CXC passes.

Trinidad and Tobago, indeed, faces significant challenges with crime despite being a relatively small country. Crime rates, particularly those related to violent crimes like homicides and robberies, have been a concern for quite some time. Factors contributing to this situation include socio-economic disparities, drug trafficking, gang activity, and ineffective law enforcement strategies. While Trinidad and Tobago boasts a rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, addressing crime remains a critical issue for the well-being and prosperity of its people. Efforts to combat crime often involve a combination of law enforcement measures, community engagement, and socio-economic development initiatives.
