    In this tutorial we are gonna work with a shape imported with a Kinect. After a little preparation of the input image form the Kinect, we will see how to apply a burning effect and a gradient of colors to it. Moreover, we will learn how to apply a little effect to the smoke of our burning shape.
    What we will use:
    - a couple of TOPs
    - Flow emitter COMP and flow TOP
    - LFO (CHOPs) and how to apply them to a TOP
    - Ramp TOP to apply the gradients we want to a burning shape
    If you have questions or comments please write here or write me on Facebook. If you enjoy the tutorial please like the video and consider to subscribe if you are interested into other Touchdesigner tutorials.

      you can do that with your laptop. you might need some suitable lighting and then i guess you'll need to play around with the threshold parameter in order to detect a shape. once you get that you just use that as the starting point to then burn your shape.

    Hi Maurizio! When I have my kinect TOP, and I select Player Index, nothing is being shown in the preview, or when I try to record with the movie file out. It works in the depth image option, but not player index. Any idea as to why?

    • @maurizioorlando97531
      @maurizioorlando97531  4 года назад

      when you set player index in the kinect top the image shown in the operator is black. however if you start to move (like waving hands and walking left & right) in front of the sensor at the right distance (like 3-5m from the kinect), a dark grey silhouette should appear in the preview.
      Also, the movie file out will show something in the preview just when the record button is toggled 'on' otherwise the operator won't show and record anything.
      If you still have troubles with that you could record your movements outside Touchdesigner and especially in Kinect studio and then play the video there. In this way Touchdesigner will recognise that video as the kinect TOP input.

    Another awesome tutorial! I am still new to TD. I am still trying to figure out how to use all these cool things. But what is the point of doing all this just to see it in our project GUI? I have not used the 'perform mode' window yet. Do we output it to some other screen or something?
    What are some things you can do once this project is baked? Like for shows, or live art? I don't get that part yet. What can we do with the Smoke Guy if it is in a window of an operator, and what are ways we can apply it to something interactive?

      Hello! These are all great questions but they mostly refer to your artistic intentions which is not the purpose of this short tutorial.
      This video is just for showing how to use the flow emitter operator and something you can visually achieve with it.
      Maybe what you need to find is a concept and then finding the techniques you need to realise that concept.

      @UCPpNu4ADAS0ALjB4iBjqcDQ check this out: zugara.com/how-does-the-kinect-2-compare-to-the-kinect-1 . In general kinect V2 is more precise in terms of skeleton tracking, color camera and depth camera resolution. However, for 3d scans seems that there are more software working with the v1 and remember that tracking is still possible with v1. Also the prices for the V2s are higher than the v1. Depends what you need to do with the kinect.

    nice tutorial! how can I give a different color for each person that enters the scene?

    • @maurizioorlando97531
      @maurizioorlando97531  4 года назад

      Hello Daniele! I have already thought about it but not tried it yet! The only thing I believe it can work looks more tricky than a just smooth workflow: once you isolated each person, you can build up a different Flow emitter system related to each person. Every Flow emitter should then contain a different color ramp applied to the silhouette. Of course this will be very demanding in terms of performance for your graphic card. in this case you might turn up the Sim Size in the page Setup of the Flow emitter TOP (choose 32 for all of the parameters). This will make the simulation less accurate but less intensive for the processor.
