Its absolutely amazing that AMP can still produce great kits while there is a war at their front door. I purchased a couple of these kits and will build them soon. Great review Phil.
Another nice looking kit that I will never build because I have no place to put it. My man, you should do a special on displaying models, and how to maintain them.
It looks like it. I'm no Whirlwind expert, but the early RAF HAR.2 American piston Engined ones of the late '50s do seem to look outwardly identical to this one. I think major differences, were that the Whirlwind had lower powered engines, and a modified gearbox, none of which will be noticeable. Later Whirlwinds differed in engine and tailboom configuration (drooped 3degrees). Either way. Who cares. Go for it.
@@Damien-q8t absolutely agree, 100%, I couldn't agree more. That said, something in me - and it is only personally speaking - I'd like to think that any kit I was building was reasonably accurate for the real thing. Yes absolutely we can put transfers on a US Phantom to make it in to a Royal Navy machine, but if there was a F4-K, I'd rather have that?
Looks amazing - wonder we going to get some Westland variants looking at the way they have moulded it ie drooped tail and weapon bay for a Mk7 or 9. Being petty I know but it’s not a rotary engine Phil it’s a radial. It’s not a Sopwith Camel 😉
As soon as I saw the review I was hoping it'd be 'Westland compatible' (ie, RN), but I take it from your post in itself this kit won't be? AMP have done some interesting UK versions though, so let's hope we get a RN version from this.
@MisterHampshire Oh, I agree. It looks like a very nicely detailed and comprehensive kit. With respect, though, I still consider +/- £60 a handsome sum for a model, even today.

Nice kit; great presentation! 👍 Greetings from Portugal!
Looks fantastic. I wonder if it can be used with the right decals as a RAF Whirlwind?

Or with the right decals perhaps a Chicago Helicopter Airways Sikorsky S-55 from about 1956
Of course it can......its YOUR model and YOU can paint it in any scheme YOU like and put any decals on it that YOU want.

@MisterHampshire dont get me wrong....i agree with accuracy, but sometimes it's nice to do something a little different
What kind of 3d printing you do? It would be very interesting to see how to apply that to model making
I've been looking for an H-34 and not been able to find one - this gives me hope.
The engine is fixed, not rotary. The aerospace industry had moved on from rotary engines some 35 years earlier.
It is however a “radial” engine.

Nice review. I always liked this bird even though it’s not exactly the best looking helo ever made.
You make it sound like it's an absolute bargain, its £80 😂
Wow, Where are you buying it from as it's £57.00 !!!
@florymodels Ummm, £57 is still not exactly cheap either, is it? 🫤
@florymodels any ideas on what Airfix are going to have as the big reveal at Teleford in the morning?
@@markfranks1329 mm, I'd argue £57 is fairly average and reasonable for a decent 1/48 kit, and this one looks fairly detailed and/or complex?
