      It's only a matter of time before I have something like this on the sewing side of the room!

    Great work and project.
    For the coping saw holder- you could put a small wedge between the bottom of the cleat and the lip on the bottom of the holder that you added as the first fix.

      Thanks! I finally did add a piece (key, wedge, whatever it's called) on that holder and it's great now.

    I'm a decent woodworker. I got no complaints about what you've made. We all start somewhere before we get better and that start is nothing to be ashamed of.
    Coping saw fix: Same as the pliers fix! Just put it under the cleat between your foot and the bottom of the cleat. You might need to use two slightly angled pieces and wedge them for a tighter fit on the bottom side to make it work.

      Thanks man! Yeah, I finally found a scrap piece to slide into the magnet hanger and locked it in.

    I only started sewing a while ago. That's mostly why I watch your content. But this is great too. I build a lot of my own furniture and let me just say: as long as you are happy with the result, you did a good job. Especially with more funktional things like this.
    I didn't even know these were calles french cleats but I use them to mount almost everything on my walls. It's super sturdy. Even have a massive bookshelf hanging on one of these. Not sure if weight could be an issue with drywalls but here we only have brick or concrete walls anyway. So I'm not worried about them ever coming loose.

    I didn’t watch more than about two minutes of the video but got the gist of what I think you were trying to get across. I like your videos and the the fact that they are not polished productions but your natural no frills way of explaining things.
    Sewing videos I like but keep pushing out the random ones which reflect your day to day experiences

    Nice job. I've not gone fulll French Cleat yet but I have built three holders for screwdrivers, Allen T keys and Torx T keys. I did a little extra on these in that they are built with the board with the holes in mounted at an angle to better present the tools and make it so that you don't have to lift the tools vertically to remove them.
    Another RUclipsr showed his updated French Cleat system and advised to try to think in 3 dimensions: it's very easy to end up with tools covering the face of the cleat board when they could stack outward from the back board too.

      I think I saw that same video, and I'm starting to try to stack things a little deeper. I imagine everything I've made so far will ultimately be replaced by a better version at some point lol. I like your idea of slanting your holders for things like screwdrivers, adding that to my list of improvements to make :)
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Great job. As a retired “master” carpenter, I’ve used French cleats for decades. I always used 30 degree cuts.

    • @ajkurp5919
      @ajkurp5919 2 месяца назад +1

      I'm curious. Why a 30 degree cut? I've used them a couple of times, but always at a 45. Is 30 superior?

    • @aland2253
      @aland2253 2 месяца назад +2

      @@ajkurp5919 I wish I knew the reason. That’s just the way I was taught, and the way I’ve usually seen it done. I’m thinking it makes it easier to set large and/or heavy things in place. Easier to mate the two pieces together. And don’t forget to knock down that leading (sharp) edge!

    • @ShaneB666
      @ShaneB666 2 месяца назад +1

      30 deg is a deeper cleat so probably holds better, but you would have double the cuts length wise. 45 is just one cut down the middle. Each to their own because neither is wrong.

    • @aland2253
      @aland2253 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ShaneB666 actually 30 degrees is less steep than 45, and it’s still just one cut. Just set the blade to 30 and let her rip.

    Looks great Jason. On the magnetic saw holder, could you put one screw in the center of that back/bottom piece and twist it 90 degrees, so it's vertical/longer after hanging it, then it reduces the space in back, and won't lift off? Or even off set, so it acts like a "key" similar to the other "key" solution, but in back? I've made Screw driver holders for my pegboard, similar to yours, here. I glued a 1"+ piece of foam (seat cushion type). Then poke an awl down each hole, but the screw drivers in and they are way more stable and not flopping around when I go to grab one. Plus I segregate my flat blade and phillips so they don't mate and have a mutation like a 'torx' !! 🤣🤣

    • @thejasonofalltrades

      Thanks! I love the foam idea, I need to try that! Also the pivoting "key" sounds like an awesome idea, I haven't seen anyone do that but it seems like it would work great, I will have to try that one too!
