Edit: as I was making this video, Gaijin announced 3 Brand New Premium Planes! All for 59.99, 69.99 and 79.99 - and they are ALL copy paste and destroy even more variety in the game

I play mainly top tier air and ground, even though i love the ww2 brs. Top tier war thunder is as easy as the early tiers if you know what your doing. BVR combat is way easier once you understand notching and maneuvers to close. It's definitely not DCS because war thunder has a way higher player base, aka missiles everywhere. The F117 is mainly for sim gameplay at top tiers/ close enough tiers

I like top tier. But the main reason it is suffering is not the vehicles or mechanics themselves. It is the way Gaijin is refusing to make it fun. We barely have any maps that complement modern MBT gameplay. They refuse to make air RB playable by reducing player count and increasing rewards, adding more objectives (bomber squadron (WHICH THEY ALREADY HAD IN THE GAME BY THE WAY), etc. We still play on WW2 maps in top tier ground for some reason.

Air RB player here, with most trees completed or close to it.
This game started slowly going downhill once they added the first set of supersonic aircraft. They entirely skipped the normal F86s and MiG 17s with missiles, and the variants with afterburners, and went straight to aircraft with both significantly higher performance, AND missiles.
I think that set the scene for BR compression going forwards, and is the reason that it can be so demotivating to play higher tier. Pretty much anywhere from 1.0-7.0 I can find a good selection of decent planes, and enjoy a consistently good gameplay loop.
Past that, I just cant be bothered. Like you said, it frustrates me that often times, the fun, balance, and immersion of an entire br bracket is sacraficed so just a few planes can be added.

I love WWII and very early Cold War stuff, and I really wish we'd get more of it. To me, WT peaks around 6.0 - 8.0 when it comes to Ground RB.
I will say, however, that I think high tier Air RB is much more tolerable when it comes to grinding out credits and RP with a premium plane. The problem I have with Air RB at WWII tiers and earlier is that you spend SO LONG climbing and doing nothing. You can climb for five minutes or more, get a single turn in against an opponent, and die. Yes, yes, I know, skill issue and all that, but am I wrong? And if you're flying a bomber, well, you're just a credits and XP piñata for the first fighter to suicide charge at you.
Meanwhile, if you take out a more modern jet for Air RB, you're in the thick of things nice and quick. Get in there, fire off some missiles, get a few kills, and probably be ready for the next match in five minutes. If you die, eh, who cares?
Ironically I find the best dogfights in the game to be in Ground RB at prop tiers.

You also have less one death leaves because you dont dies ( typically ) 20 seconds after responing at lower to mid tier. In top tier everyone cries about one death leaves, and its because of the game play as it makes no sense to spawn another tank to get killed in under a minute. Armor on modern tanks only works against eachother at engagement ranges 1-3km which is the case 90% of the time irl so I want the game to reflect that instead of playing team deathmatch where everyone is flying around a tiny map oneshotting eachother because again, the modern armor isnt designed around point blank ranges

  • @thebigwagyu
    @thebigwagyu Месяц назад +10

I think my issue with top tier ARB, is that you work all the way through early jets into modern ones, and it’s this constant balance of “incredibly flawed flight model with okay weapons” and “good flight model with bad weapons,” so it’s just this slog of fighting up tiers in “bad” planes with bad missiles until you FINALLY get that modern mixture that has that proper balance, and even then you don’t really get to enjoy it because of things like a $70 plane that can FNF active homing missiles from the start of the match.
They need to find out how to properly set the BR system better and almost separate focuses on each era of planes in the game. They also need to find some way of actually making top tier matches have some sort of objective focus. You go back into a props game and suddenly there’s this diversity in plane types that actually give the game a realistic flow.

The biggest problems with ground combat is both the compression, the inaccuracy of (mostly western) vehicles, way too small and super complex maps, how fast the matches progress, way too many players for those small maps, every shot is based on a bit of luck, helicopters, and planes.
In air combat the biggest problems are too big teams, quite boring and few maps, no place for real bomber gameplay, and the entire popint and motive is just "KILL ALL ENEMY PLANES", and possibly the biggest of them all; COMPRESSION AND UDNERTIERED PLANES (as well as late props face jets to a major extent.

It also doesn't help that all of the maps aren't designed with modern combat in mind. In air battles (except sim, which is the best top tier air experience IMO), the maps can be hundreds of kilometers wide but the objectives, and therefore the combat, are typically just a tiny area in the middle. It leaves no room for anything that isn't a multirole fighter. I predict the F-117 will be good in ASB, because it actually gets choice in where it goes, and the enemy doesn't know exactly where it needs to hit at any given moment. That's not a thing in RB or AB.

I wouldn't say top tier has a steep learning curve. People don't like playing vehicles with steep learning curves but everyone plays top tier. Getting a kill in props requires position, aim, energy management, target prioritization, and vehicle knowledge. When playing top tier most of what matters is do I use a radar missile or IR missile for that guy, fly low, and countermeasure when needed. It's faster paced but definitely not more skilled, you don't need to aim, you don't need to manage your altitude and maneuvers. Most of it is just hoping the enemy doesn't CM your missile. Going in for a dogfight with guns is usually a death sentence if not done immediately on the first pass. Someone who's really skilled can win a match on their own in ARB props but that same player is not that much more effective than a lvl 10 in the same plane because missiles are an absolute equalizer in the same way that a big dude can totally over power a small woman in hand to hand combat but when they both have guns then it's much more equal.
And as for tanks, why am I going to play, grind, and spade the same tank 6 times? Not only that but every country's top tier tank feels almost identical, most of them share identical stats because it's all classified. Armor is mostly irrelevant, just shoot the gun breach aswell. Everything is faster : aiming, spotting, shell velocity, range finding, maneuverability, and reloading. The game basically boils down to baiting the enemy shot, then shooting their gun breach. Unlike ARB, it does still require skill but it's more like FPS reaction time and aiming skill and not vehicle and gun knowledge, ranging, shell selection, with FPS skills. Basically GRB top tier is really repetitive and predictable. Lower tiers different tanks can do different things which can be utilized in different areas against different enemy tanks while top tier is just shoot the gun breach and finish.

As someone who finally got into this game months ago and has finally grinded almost the entire Swedish tech tree I would like to add the modification cost at top tier is ridiculous. Like 40 kills just to unlock one thing without premium is insane especially when with my skill I can get 3 if lucky kills most of the time before I die just to respawn and be one of the only 3 people left in the game if US is on our side. The maps are just too small and the game ends in a spawn camp in the first 4 minutes of the match, can count the amount of matches that lasted 10+min on one hand sadly.

I think another thing that is bad about this focus on Top Tier is that it makes the game stagnant and stale.
Once you go beyond a certain point, all the tanks and planes begin to follow one of three battle doctrines and that's basically it. Sure the capabilities might increase, but the gameplay is identical to all the crap before it.
And because they're not adding the more diverse and wacky designs of pre-Vietnam warfare, it feels like there's nothing new to use (ESPECIALLY when the stuff they add is just copy-paste or slight variants that are not very different).
There are SO many vehicles I'd be genuinely interested in playing from 1933 to 1963, but nothing of any not is being added and I've grown bored of the stuff I enjoy playing.

I don't typically leave very long comments but I disagree with pretty much this whole video and I hate to be that guy, but for a lot of it you seem to have no idea what you're talking about. It seems you're just saying stuff just to say it so I'll break it down in order.
Also to start off I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt to see if you just simply had a different opinion, which would be fine. So I checked your stats and saw that the only 2 rank 8 (top tier) vehicles you have played at all were the Harrier GR.7 and the M1A2 SEP V2. And adding their total battles together shows you've only played less than 100 battles in rank 8 vehicles, and none at "top tier" air with Fox-3s. So as someone who has thousands of battles across all my top tier vehicles I'd really like to say why I disagree, and how some of your points just don't make any sense or are entirely untrue, which you would know if you played even 20 battles at top tier, especially top tier air where I spend most of my time.
One of the first things you bring up is about how Gaijin is primarily focusing on higher tiers. And while yes I would agree this is happening, and there are more vehicles at lower tiers that can be added, there's a few reasons why they focus more on higher tiers. The first is obviously money, that's just where they make most of it. But there are also a lot of new players who are more interested in higher tiers as well. I would also bring up the point that top tier isn't just about new vehicles, especially for planes, as there are other missiles and tech to be added as well. I would also say that not adding so much lower tier stuff now extends how much can be added later as there is a finite amount of it. Though I do agree with you a bit on this point compared to others.
Now you talk about how it supposedly hard to learn the key binds for radars and other things at top tier, which I and like everyone else I know has never had an issue with. And this just goes back to the point that you haven't played anywhere near enough of top tier air (in fact really none whatsoever.) Now if you were to actually play these higher tiers and progress like a normal player you would see that its pretty easy to learn everything and its all fairly gradual. You also talk about having to learn what all the weapons do, which again isn't really hard since they all have their information right there if you just... hover over them. Then you also bring up how flying jets, especially top tier jets, is different than lower tiers and you have to play differently. Which, I really don't understand your point here? Like this should be an obvious thing that different kinds of planes with different weapons play differently. I really don't see how this section of the video makes sense other than complaining about something you obviously have no interest in, nor care to learn.
Top tier air battles "feeling off" is something I actually would agree with for the most part. Throughout tiers, the game modes for both air and ground stay the same, the only real difference is different and larger maps at higher tiers. Which in my and a lot of others opinions isn't great and part of what makes top tier air "eh" at times. I think they should just add a whole new game mode like Air RB Enduring Confrontation which would actually mix things up. Thou your point about a bunch of stuff going on is only half right. I would say yes its ridiculous the way the game mode is set up so that you can have 8 different people firing missiles at you from 8 different directions. But there will just always be more going on at top tier even if its more spread out in a real EC match. You'll still have to pay attention to more things than just if there's a nametag near you. You need to pay attention to your RWR, you radar, and other things like MAWS if you plane has that.
You then go into talking about missiles which is just again another thing where you not having played with them shows. It would seem here you're talking about Fox-3s primarily, and you have a clip with Phoenixes in the background. You say they're just guaranteed hits, which just isn't true. There are various ways to avoid dying to enemy Fox-3s, which I would be happy to show you, and they will also be in my BVR video I'm working on. So you talk about it not being fair or fun, because again you think launch a long range missile on someone just means they're going to die, which again isn't true. And I would agree that if it was just a guaranteed kill no one would have fun, but that's not the case. The fun is in being able to avoid enemy missiles while getting you own off on targets that you determine are the easiest kills since they put themselves into a bad position.
Again I'm just being repetitive here because you just continue to bring up that you only like lower tiers, which is fine. But if that's the case I really don't understand why you're complaining about top tier when you have zero experience? And again it just sounds like you just can't be bothered to learn any sort of higher tier thing, which again if you just don't enjoy it you don't have to learn, but you make it sound like its hard to learn when its really not. As long as you play through the tiers you learn everything pretty easily. I'm only about 5 minutes in and it seems as though I'm already beating a dead horse so I'll only have a bit more to say.
I would agree on the point that buying a top tier premium off the bat isn't a good idea because yes there is a learning curve, which is easy if you play through the tiers, but buying a top tier vehicle is like throwing yourself off the cliff instead of taking the path down.
You say the F-117 isn't balance, but it actually is pretty balanced for where it is. You bring up the difference in age between it and the other planes at this BR, but you don't seem to realize that this game isn't and never has been balanced by what saw what historically (which is a good thing.) And not trying to be mean here but you have no idea what you're talking about. It was never intended to be a fighter. It was strictly used as a strike aircraft IRL, and that's what its in game for as well. It is also being used to test stealth mechanics for future stealth aircraft in the game. This also isn't the first plane with no offensive armament in game and I'm sure it won't be the last. It's a plane a lot of people are interested in and it doesn't need to be "good" for it to be added. I'm not sure if you've tested the stealth for yourself, I doubt you have, or you would have seen it actually does work very well against radars. Yes, it doesn't affect spotting which is a gameplay decision that I agree with as the spotting system is already bad enough as is.
I won't comment on any of your top tier ground takes as I mainly play top tier air, overall throughout this video you really just reinforce the point that you don't play top tier at all and you don't like it. Which again is fine, and there are different tiers for a reason so you can play what you like. But it just leads me to question why make this video in the first place. Since you seem to just want to bad mouth top tier without knowing anything about it, and many of you complaints dwindling down to the fact that you don't want to, or can't be bothered to learn it. Though seeing as though you haven't even really tried top tier air at all I would say you're just here to complain for the sake of a video which is unfortunate. I would encourage you to at least try to play a bit of top tier at least to really see how it is. If you need help I would be glad to show you around, or there are plenty of other creators who have amazing tutorials on radars and RWRs among other things. Again if you're interested I should have a tutorial covering everything you need to know about BVR at top tier in about a month or so. I really do hope you at least try out top tier and see how it goes, you never know.

Matchmaker also mostly separated Redfor and Blufor, unlike this random nation mixing we have today.
Game was actually fun to play back then...
Also, having historically accurate matchmaking would not be detremental to the game, it wasn't back then either. Weapon tech has always balanced itself out - every few months during WW2 and every few years now.

I don't see the problem with F-117, it's a meme vehicle that you can grind for free with squadron points. If you are against it, you must also hate the Po-2. There is absolutely no problem with Gaijin adding bad vehicles, if you want with each update to get meta vehicles, the game would be less interesting, you can easily skip it if all you care is the grind. It's the perfect plane for Gaijin to test stealth before adding capable stealth planes.

This video has certain elements of truth, yet i have to disagree with you on many of your opinions. For instance, saying that the avionics/systems of modern aircraft are too complicated, difficult to understand, and boring is an interesting take. Many people like to use radars or learn about the technology behind these weapon systems. War thunder is really dumbed down compared to other "realistic" or "simulator" titles such as DCS.
Likewise blaming people for buying premiums or that they dont deserve top tier unless they grinded for it seems like a way of gate keeping, at least for me.
I'd much rather play alongside people who are happy playing with the vehicles they love rather than being with players who are angry and frustrated with the game, trying to grind as quickly as possible using strategies and game mechanics that ruin the fun for others just so they can progress quickly through the ranks.
Most of us older players buy premiums to skip the copy-paste tank grind. Why would i grind china's low tier when i already have all of Usa and Ussr?
Despite some of these gripes, i agree that the approach this game takes is quite lazy.

I despise the whole gatekeeping aspect of some War Thunder RUclipsrs when it comes to "You have to grind props"... I think it's important to play a lil with the props to get an idea of the gameplay but honestly it's not as necessary as people make it out to be. Flying a Yak-3 isn't going to teach you crap about flying a MiG-21... Personally I have zero interest in WWI or WWII vehicles, my heart is in the late Cold War era and the modern age. 6 months of grinding props will only make me abandon the game. I bought a couple premium over the last half year of playing when they popped up on sale and honestly after a few dozen games I started being able to understand how to properly use my jets.
I think it would have been great if they had made an entry point on to the tech trees at both Tier 1 and Tier 5. Let us choose what era we want to play and it would drastically decrease the amount of 1 life teammates at high to top tier.
It does drive me nuts tho the amount of people who try to say you have to waste your life playing prop planes you have no interest in because they say it's impossible to learn higher tiers if you don't. I'm first hand proof that's not true, I'm not the best but I consistently place in the top 3 in most games and top 5 in just about all other cases and I jumped into playing jets as soon as one came on sale.

War Thunder radar, countermeasure, RCS, RWR, and IR seeker modeling are miles ahead of DCS. You can look at DCS lua code to confirm for yourself btw. And the Flight modeling is on par usually, and better in some cases for WT (MiG-29 and SU-27). Only clickable cockpits on full fidelity modules are different, but thats the reason why most DCS players call it cockpit simulator now and days because the actual combat simulation is horrendous.
To give a example, only the F4E by Heatblur has a RWR that actually has to identify and recognize radar bands and such, the rest will always identify no matter what and give perfect information. And only the modules by Heatblur and Razbam are on the level of WT's radar modeling. ED's own modules are a joke, unfinished slop they release and never properly fix.

I don't rly understand the cope behind the F117. It's not a premium to entice everyone to buy it for the cool factor, it's not a FOMO one off event vehicle and its not overpowered or gamebreaking. The snail added the f117 to test out stealth on the least influential plane they could add. Better use the 117 as a testbed than go full balls into f35s and 22s, ppl would go mental if that happened. But dw they will go mental, my degree in everything given to me by the reddit community allows me to say with 105% confidence and 5% margin of error that yes the f35 is completely invisible to every wave in the electromagnetic spectrum. Honestly great video for a discussion, I play WT from its beta release when it was only planes and I have quite fond memories of that time, yet I'm still avid player of top tier - especially for Air RB.
First I will address the stealthy elephant in the room the F-117 - honestly it was for me the most painful part of the video - basically 5 minute bash of a plane that is not even part of a main tech tree and is most likely added with purpose of a NEAT! factor and (probably) exploring stealth mechanics for future development - while I agree that it can break immersion, it is quite likely you meet them in very small percentage of your games, as for the spotting... your argument to make them harder to spot because its a stealth aircraft is honestly, as much I hate to use this word - stupid, as even if using good old Mk.1 Eyeball it is quite difficult to miss a black triangle in the sky (kinda makes me wonder if it would be more difficult to spot during a night battle).
Now for the second part, that being the pace of the top tier gameplay - both Air RB and Ground RB are really fast - especially Ground RB, community has been complaining about this for basically ages now, begging Gaijin to add bigger maps with proper terrain variation and not a city in the middle, ANY of the current maps in a top tier map pool are not really viable for ground top tier, but Gaijin is simply refusing to understand that and top tier Ground players are forced to make do with what they get, if Gaijin were to introduce bigger maps and Enduring Confrontation it would probably solve most issues. Basically same thing goes for Air RB even after extension of the maps they are still small and current meta is to take off go to left then turn to the right and send out your missiles and hope for the best (if I really dumb it down). I honestly don't understand why is Gaijin refusing to give EC to Ground and Air when Naval already has them (well Air has EC in Sim but it gets like 20 players). I bet that if EC was added then, quite a large portion of player base would switch to them - especially on top tier Air, but right now we got to make do with what we get from the Snail.
As for the question if I enjoy playing top tier? At times I love it, at times I hate it. At times it's great fun, at times it isn't - however I think that is something that is true for War Thunder as a whole, no matter what rank you play - yet we keep coming back to it, so in the end the true winner in this is the Snail.
    TL;DR:
Sole reason for adding F-117 is that its NEAT! (and stealth mechanics).
Gaijoob should add EC and bigger maps for both Ground and Air.
Playing top tier is like being in a love-hate relation ship.

I play every BR, its fun to play low BR's with armor at funny angles, and it's also fun to play with things with thermal optics and imagers, its just the pace of conflict sometimes you want slow sometimes you want fast I like to play top tier like its slow because I could manage getting 9 kills defending a point rather than 14 at 4.0 its more of a challenge

For top tier tanks idk much but primarily because top tier mostly involves who's tanks are better at sniping at a longer range which isn't fun. Top tier air rb suffers a similar issue which is something I wanna explain. Top tier air rb should've never introduced fox 3s before the notching being inconsistent in RB has been fixed (yes sometimes it straight up doesn't work unlike sim where it is reliable). Furthermore, most of the maps are extremely short distanced with 16v16 as an addon the entire match just becomes a massive furball of idiots shooting missiles that cannot be flared or dodged. Now if you get 1 kill you are decent. 2 kills then you have got to be sweating your ass off without dying and 3 or above kills in one RB top tier match is just pure luck. The entire design of top tier rb maps and mechanics doesn't meet the condition to implement such high performing missiles to begin with but gaijin wanted more money so who cares. If warthunder had actual competition this game would have been long dead at this point.

Everything is just point and click at that point and it really eliminates all sense of what dogfighting actually is, it's why I still have appreciation for the legacy tiers of warthunder where skill and proper dogfighting actually matters than just shooting a radar missile and getting that funny ping sound when you hit someone. I've played the game since 2013 and I normally play top tier i.e 9.0 +, I recently went back down to help a friend grind the game and we hit a wall at 5.3. imo mid tiers or more specifically everything 4.7 - 9.0 is hot trash and are just unfun to play. its around this tier that severe sweatiness comes into play along with straight up busted unbalanced premiums like the SAV or KV-1B that are incredibly annoying/difficult to deal with. Another issue is the balancing mechanics that mean if they playerbase does poorly in a vehicle it gets down tiered. So at 5.3 its very common to get uptiered against tigers, panthers, jagdpanzers and the likes which, depending on the nation, are incredibly difficult and annoying to fight against. Combine with this incredibly low lethality for non meta ammunition such as solid shot or APDS that should realistically nuke tanks to the same degree APHE should but will often do fuck all. Ontop of all this bad vehicles from the late cold war appear at lower BR's rather than being put at 8.7+ where they belong.
In air rb its also a similar situation with bad players force good aircraft into lower BR's such as the US tech tree so you'll often find yourself in situations where you fight aircraft at your own tier that straight up outmatch you in the stats as well as teams largely consisting of premiums such as the XP-50, Wyvern and Ju-288. The fact you start on the runway means that aircraft with high climb rates are meta and if you're grinding through on an aircraft that isn't you have to suffer. The early cold/post war jets are also incredibly unbalanced and unintuitively implemented going years without fixes or corrections (britain suffers in this regard in particular). The reason I play top tier is because its the most reminiscent in my mind of 3.7 where everyone is pretty equally matched and most anyone can kill anyone and so it returns to tactics and map knowledge rather than 'I got down tiered in a Tiger I and seal clubbed'. Also the armour stats for MBTs from the 1980's is fairly well known at this point and I would say is fairly well implemented in a realistic manner for everything below 12.0. In short I like the high lethality gameplay of the tier and having 10x zoom is a gift as I don't have to lean into the screen to see someone 1000m away. I will agree with you that the maps could be better but that applies for pretty much every tier at this point.
Air RB at top tier is however much more fun and I think the faster paced nature is preferred by most players me included. There's no waiting for the timer to tick down because an Me 264 is space climbing or the opponent is hiding over their air base, you can just gat 'em with a missile from a few KM away. Altitude advantage is not as important as mid tiers either and I again get to use actual tactics rather than rather than diving back to the air base because half the enemy team is 2km above me.
Overall 5.3-9.0 is where balance goes to die

I like playing a mix of top tier (mostly rank 6/7) and lower tiers (like rank 2, 3, and 4, sometimes 1 for some seal clubbing fun with a friend). Generally for the higher ranks, I like how you still have to be coordinated and on your toes given the advanced threats you have to face. You have to be on your game to not be shot first, because if you are seen you likely will be shot. Now, sure, it can get annoying given the advantage CAS or some nations have, but I have an appreciation for all ranks in the game and how even if the meta is changing, some knowledge and skills are applicable at all tiers. My only gripe that im not too fond of, is rank 8 air. Its a bit of a learning curve to rank 7, but considering my only top tier jets that are competitive at that rank are the Mig29G and the F4F ICE (which I love btw), I haven't taken the time to grind them out in their entirety. I'm focusing on rank 6 USA since I want to get the early M1A1 Abrams and some fun cas at the tier. Its okay that you disagree with top tier, anyone can, war thunder is built for anyone who wants to play whatever they have a bigger interest in, whether you like modern stuff or old. That's why I like all ranks in almost all nations! Lastly, love the vid, you deserve more subscribers :D

I'm fine with the complexity of high tier, especially since I learned it by inhaling information and can take advantage of my knowledge to win. But what I do not like is the gameplay loop itself. We still have the same 2 modes in ground rb and 1 mode in air rb. Its been like 10 years. If they want to add these unique vehicles like the F-117 and what not they have to make modes or objectives that can accommodate them.
Though your insight on top tier armor and entirety of tanks being a "weak spot" everywhere is factually incorrect. My motivation to play and get good at top tier is simply being very fond of the vehicles themselves. Just like how your motivation for playing WW2 and early cold war tiers is because you are fond of those vehicles.
Personally, I play a healthy mix of WW2 and Top Tier.

I whole heartily agree with you on, I think everything in this video
I play up to 6.7, max I'll go, I want to play higher, but it's just not fun
This game needs to be revamped, it's too dated with it's basic gameplay
They have the resources now to truly make this game unique
Increase the size of the battlefield on the ground, adding more capture points and increasing the capture points size, or have it so you have to capture 3 smaller capture points in a zone to claim the zone (3 capture points would be in close proximity to each other, fight for all 3 to claim the zone, there could still be 3 zones to capture but now 9 capture points, a contested zone would identify as neutral). That's just one idea I have
Make the capture points make sense, not just some circle, make it actually look like a small base with fortifications or defense points, it should be a strategic point for a reason
Capture a point and the bunker and pillboxes are now allied operated (by AI). Pillboxes able to shred light vehicles and bunkers capable of punishing careless armored vehicles driving into its kill zone. It gives players a reason to read their map, pay attention and flank around, instead of the same boring ass gameplay, hold *W* .
And by adding these, it gives vehicles who's sole purpose is to deal with fortifications, a reason in game finally.
Capture the capture point and the destroyed bunkers and pillboxes can be reconstructed by an allied vehicle, engineer vehicles being capable to rebuild them faster than other, giving them a unique playstyle
Give capture points a bonus for the team, friendly AI AAA in the area, artillery barrage (remove the capability to drop artillery from the start of the match)
Show the artillery pieces behind friendly lines, giving CAS and bombers a target to destroy to help allieviate the pressure on their allies
Enemy AI AAA being able to be destroyed by ground forces to assist their air so they can get friendly CAS to come in closer to assist
Make airfield bases bombable as a target, forcing players to spawn further away or use the further airfield in the back
I have so many ideas, but Gaijin is just so God d*mn lazy

I feel like sim mode fixes a lot of the issues with top tier vehicles. IMO, sim should be the natural progression the game pushes players towards. Many players begin their WT adventure in arcade, but around rank 2 and beyond it becomes a chaotic cesspool. They move to realistic battles, which works alright for the following few ranks of vehicles. But once they begin to hit top tier, RB too becomes chaos and unfun. Yet this is the ceiling that everyone stops at, rarely does anyone move to the larger maps and slower paced gameplay of sim. You even get to avoid matchmaking and see exactly what you will be matched up against, with historical matchups. This is the penultimate War Thunder experience and you will never want to go back to RB.

As a top tier air enjoyer I wanted to comment on a few things, I completely agree with what you said about there not being enough tutorials for the top tier toys. Even simple concepts like missles - afterburners- countermeasures - and radar, or complex ones like the difference between fox types - pulse Doppler/ IRST- notching - IRCCM - ground clutter/ terrain masking - HMS - etc.
That said this problem is not limited to top tier, low tier is extremely hard to learn in its own right, new players have no idea how to read another players energy level or in ground know what parts of the enemy are the weak spot.
Luckily for us the wt RUclips community has done a great job at putting out all kinds of informative videos to teach players these concepts.
Another point you had was that there is no reason for the f-117 to exist. I couldn’t disagree more. One reason you gave was that in air it is 40 years newer than its br contemporaries. Now I’ll agree that this is an extreme difference, but, these gaps are present all throughout the game, if br’s were given based on historical accuracy the game would be unplayable. The 117 just stands out so much more because of its design. It definitely should be a low br for air, and there is nothing wrong with that. You also said that if it’s only good for ground, then why add it, I again would have to disagree. First off it’s not only good for ground, those air additions are called helicopters. The 117 is perfectly capable of striking targets in air. It may be worse than a conventional bomber but it can still get the job done.
I am all for gaijin pushing their boundaries and this is the first step for them to understand how stealth will work inside their game. Again maybe that time is better served making tutorials, but I commend them for continuing to push onwards and make the game even more complex and unique.

But that does not mean that the 117 shouldn’t be added. If it’s underpowered, it can get a lower BR.
The underlying issue behind all of this is that in ARB, the role of bombers is very lackluster. If they improved the strategic points or added better targets for tactical bombers, then no one would be complaining. Again, with that said in the current state of ARB the plane still has a role. It might be worse at that role than similar planes like the ones we mentioned above, but that should not prevent it from being added to the game

My personal experience in top tier is mixed, I play a little bit of Air Sim EC, using the Mitsubishi F-1 there are times when I can't do anything and times when I get upwards of 10 kills without being shot down, I'd presonaly rank my self as a bit above average as a pilot, I do well only if I'm against players with a shiny new premium and no knowledge or players that are too confident in how their nation is the best in the world and no other nation's plane could ever catch them, or players playing Sim EC as a PvE mode.
For ground I play Sim again, and find that in most matches, it's just a game of target practice for the Helicoptors, sitting well outside the range of my best SPAA slinging guided missiles at whatever they want.
The concept of Ballance is absent in almost all of Naval, so top tier is probably easyest to accept for me there, that being said, I tend not to play above 6.0, simply because I dislike how slow Battleship gameplay is, turret traverse, reload times and in many cases top speed is just too low and makes it dull, that being said, I feel like there is more chance in Naval to upset the balance using things like torpedoes from lower tier ships.

That's why despite me being a lvl 100 with at least 1200 hrs i just don't go above 9.3. Only exception is F5E FCU at 11.3 that i bought to test if near top tier is fun. And it's just not, i was constantly playing at 12.3 against new at the F-15A IRAF and despite only having 2 AIM-9P at the start i still managed to get KD around 0.7-0.9. I'll check out it later. Anyway it wasn't fun, i was sniped by a single arm gameplay weirdo in his F-15 from 15 km a lot if times no matter how low i flew and how much chaff i used. And grinding these 300k out of 400k exp to get all the important mods (guns, missiles, performance mods) is just not fun. Its very exhausting even. And I haven't even researched R2Y2 that i wanted to get playing F5E (out of 300k exp i got only around 60-80 went to a R2Y2). A week ago had a confrontation with a top tier guy, a total loser at mid tier. Cant fight without 2 axis stab, thermals, LRF and APFSDS i guess.
It's so annoying that for a year or two all the updates full of uninteresting Top Tier vehicle for the ads on the internet. But even when they add some mid tier vehicles they are SPAAs or SPGs or clones from other Tech Trees (Benelux, Hungary) that are fighting Tiger 2, IS-2 and Pershing.

In my opinion, they should make the F117 unlockable by all radars unless you're within 3 km, but also move it up 11.0 air and 11.0 ground. That way it gets the "historical" feel to it, while also being able to be somewhat useful.

That's an awful idea. Nobody would play it, it's not viable at all at that br even if you are stealthy.
The entire argument against the F117 is dumb, vehicles added to WT aren't added to necessarily fight their historical peers, they're added to fill a role. And the F117's role is to be a vehicle people wanted (even if it isn't that good) that acts as a test for future stealth aircraft. It isn't meant to be used in a 100% meta manner (it's not really meant for air at all), and it isn't meant to face its historical foes.
Nobody wants historical matchmaking. All it would do is make some vehicles absolutely overpowered and others completely useless. Trying to pick and choose which vehicles should be forced to fight their historical counterparts is asinine.

anything with optical tracking and irst is going to anihilate it, and i'm not starting with simply aiming SACLOS without locking. It's just not a plane made for WT and an obvious cash-grab disguised as a free vehicle.

    • @zachantes1161
      @zachantes1161 Месяц назад +2

@tigerbesteverything I think that's the wrong mentality to have. Not every vehicle in WT needs to be "good", sometimes they are just unique or popular. Take the Sturmtiger or the Churchill AVRE for instance. Neither one is actually "good", but they are interesting and goofy so they got added as event vehicles.
The F-117 is in a similar position, but with the added bonus of being a test for stealth capabilities, being able to tweak them before adding actually good stealth planes. It's an entirely optional plane, that can be obtained without money, and isn't reliant on FOMO. It's basically exactly what people ask for from WT when it comes to vehicles like this.
Will it probably flood matchmakers for a while? Yeah, literally every new vehicle does though, I don't see why this one really matters. Especially since people will stop bringing it once they realize it isn't meta, they'll go back to bringing their other planes they bought with mommy's credit card instead.

As a boomer myself I can agree with almost everything. The thing is my view on this topic is very unique. I started to play this game in 2013 in the beginning of the open beta. I grinded all my way up to top tier with only rather small investments, I bought premium for like 2 weeks total + two premium packs. One premium pack for the Tiger 2H and the MiG-23ML. DCS World was or is a game/sim that I spent some time on getting the grips of it. So, I was not lost when I was faces with doppler radars, FOX3s and so on. Quite the contrary I was bored as a friend of mine tried to explain it to me as he had to learn it by himself. But that knowledge won't help me in War Thunder because the mechanics are vastly different and way more ADHD there as in DCS. DCS tries to be a simulation of air combat, but War Thunder top tier feels like some parody accelerated 80x.
The reason why I want to play top tier ground battles at least is because I started with my main nation or main nations and wanted to "complete" them. I was born in Russia and have German heritage so I thought I gonna main these both nations and wanted to complete them. Apart from that only the single moments of genuine excellence is the main drive to play top tier, the addiction to feel this high performing well. Despite that top tier isn't fun, the maps are not built for these tanks that usually fight over kilometres with combined arms and infantry, also the modes are stale and are just team deathmatch. Gaijin is a company wanting to make money and throwing out cool vehicles is gonna make them the money, not cool and well thought out game modes. They once were interested in making good games, now it is a money printer.
Personally my best suggestion were to just focus on tier 1-6, and only put cold war tanks that are declassified enough in the game. Old Abrams with the 105, early T-72 and T-80s and Leopards are for example the top tier. Fighting on larger maps with emphasize on strategy and positioning like in lower tiers but with more thrilling engagements. But rank 7...absolute chaos and to be honest..utter dogshit. "WOAAH NEW LEO2 KIND?!!? IS IT BETTER OR WORSE TH-" - doesn't matter has the same weaksports, same ammo and nothing can be changed to make it unique. Every tank is similar.

This vid is at 666, time to ruin that.
The reason a lot of people like top tier is some of the same reasons why some people like mid to low tier. Everyone has a favorite era of warfare or even some specific vehicles they admire irl. We've all been alive and grew up with these modern vehicles and have watched them either age out or even barely age at all. That cant be said for wii vehicles who's record of service and performance we'll only ever get to know about from a textbook. besides grainy black and white footage we dont really get to see these old vehicles in action, but we've seen how vehicles like the f-16, f-15, su-27, abrams, t=90, and so on perform because we've literally, no, we're STILL living in an era where we're seeing this vehicles put to action. Many people have either severed or has family who served that have operated in these vehicles.
All of this is to say modern vehicles for a lot of players are much easier to relate to and easier to desire than it is for much older technology we've never actually seen being used in our life times. Im more excited about the chinese tech tree eventually getting an abrams (taiwan ftw) than i am seeing a wwii vehicle get added that i know nothing about it. Doubly so given that i only play 2 minor nations so we dont get the cool toys everyone gets hyped for, at least for older eras anyway.
Granted, im not married to top tier. i play pretty much every era.

@@thesnazzycomet It's meant to be a test for future stealth aircraft, while being a vehicle that doesn't need constant rebalancing for the meta.
That's why it's a squadron vehicle, so that everyone can't get it. It wouldn't be a very good premium or tech tree vehicle. It's not very good, wouldn't get as widespread testing, and would suck to have to grind for when you aren't going to use it.
It's also a question of roles. The vehicle is not made for Air RB. Unless WT really reworks the role of bombers (and especially tactical bombers) it will never have a place. It can't defend itself, it can't evade missiles or enemy aircraft, and it doesn't have the bomb load grind points by killing ground targets. No, the F117 is almost entirely for Ground RB, for trying to slip past enemy radar defences and take out a couple of enemies or bombing choke points. It's similar to the A-10, in that it's really meant for a ground attack role, but the A-10 at least gets a lot of flares and good A2A missiles.
I don't think every vehicle in game should necessarily need to be a "good" vehicle. Things like the Sturmpanzer II isn't really good, but they're fun and interesting additions. Gaijin adds weird, non meta, vehicles all the time. The F-117 is one of those, a vehicle with a really specific purpose that doesn't necessarily fit in WT game modes, and exists only for goofing off or because it's unique.

Why do I enjoy playing top tier you ask:
Mobility, snappy FCS, thermals, modern rounds with actual damage (cough HEATFS/APDS sucks), modern CAS (I love guided bombs, fire and forget munitions, and fighting missile SPAA), I also adore modern equipment and military history of these times which makes me take a liking to these vehicles a tab bit more.
In terms of Air battles however, I try to avoid top-top tier unless I’m spading a vehicle for the sake of it. I find the ARH jousting to be quite fun, but also ineffective at times given the still present issue of multipathing and too large matchmakers. However I do have a sweet spot right around 11.0-10.7 where there’s a lack of radar guided missiles and dogfights with IR missiles are still prevalent. I highly enjoy the F-5E, F-8E, Kfir Canard, and other similar vehicles. However I still find myself being able to enjoy radar missiles slingers like the Mirage-2000C4, F-14A/A IRIAF/B, the F-4E/S/EJ/Kurnass/Kurnass 2000, and plenty of others. But again, the matchmakers size makes it hard to enjoy the clusterfrick that it sometimes is.
