Words to Live by @Kyle Holmes. :)
I am going to do exactly this with my kid (22) on my 2014 Crosstrek this week. Thanks for the video!
Good for you @Anie Diz Learning experience for both of you. Let me know how it turns out for you.
Thank you for your videos! You’ve saved me hundreds of dollars. I’ve changed my headlights several times, license plate lights, and now I’ll be changing my tail light. Wee hoo!

Thats great @butler thorne Glad to help you out. :)
Thank you so much for posting these videos. I just changed all of the bulbs in the back by myself, and I'm not young. I regularly can do my headlights now, thanks to you, too!

Excellent, thank you.
Thank You @6274 Online You are Welcome!
Did you get 7440/7443 HP24's or the 7440/7443 XP80's? I had bought some different brand stop lights before and returned them because they came on but did not brighten when depressing the brake.
My tail/Brake lights are 310 Lumen. The HP24 is a 410 Lumen bulb the Xp80's are a 510 Lumen bulb. If you are looking for a specific light for your vehicle I would suggest doing the search by your vehicle here www.diodedynamics.com/by-vehicle.html One thing I found out when I did my interior lights is that it is possible to install them backwards. If you like let me know the Year, make and model of the vehicle you are working with and Ill let you know. :)
Exact same vehicle you have. I appreciate the help.
I found the ones you have!! Great video! Thanks man
@@jonmartz4156 I put the HP11 (310 lumen) ones in mine. The HP48 are only 280 Lumens. www.diodedynamics.com/tail-light-leds-for-2013-2015-subaru-xv-crosstrek-pair.html
@@jonmartz4156 I'm glad I could help ya Jon. Just make sure the contacts are straight when you put them in. If they don't work the first time. Flip the bulbs. (I just had to do this with my Tag lights).
Thank You so much. You do great videos!
You are very welcome Charlies1970TA and Thank You!
I'm confused about the tail light/break light. Is it one bulb. I was at a tire place and they said my break light was out and was going to replace it and they forgot. I have the same bulbs on hand from my other Subaru. From what I can figure they are the white bulbs. I haven't taken out the back light unit yet. I've done this to my other Subaru. The bottom section is the yellow portion, but the lights are on. I had to put a brick on the break because I don't have anyone to help. Both bottom yellow lights were lit. Anyone care to run this by me. Thanks.
The tail light/brake light is one bulb. It is a two filament bulb. One is on when you have the lights on and when the brake pedal is depressed... it activates the second element to brighten that bulb. (Here's a link to show you an older bulb, NOT one used in your Subaru. Just to show what a dual filament looks like.) www.bulbs.com/product/1157B2
@@IamWedge Thank you so much.
@@IamWedge I never noticed the double element inside the bulb.
@@TippyPuddles Anytime
Thanks for another great install video! Question about the backup light. You stated you used a 92 lumens for backup but the bulb in the video is a 210 lumens bulb. Please advise. Thanks!
Hi @dynezxice Nice Catch! I didn't even notice I made that typo. Yes, you are correct the ones I installed were the 210 lumen kit. As a side note I thought about upgrading to the 410 Lumen kit but i see its been replaced with the 720 lumen kit. (Might be too bright and blind the backup camera). Thanks for stopping by and pointing that out.
@@IamWedge No worries. I'm debating betw the 92 vs the 210. How do you like the 210 so far? Is it too bright or just fine? And yeah, I think the 720 lumen is overkill. lol
@@dynezxice I would get the 210 in my honest opinion. Its very noticeable in day time when backing out and give the perfect amount of light for night time. ( I don't think its too bright)
@@IamWedge Thank you!! Just placed an order. Can't wait to work on my car. :)
@@dynezxice You will like them a lot. Nice way to dress up your car and make it more visible as well. What kind of car and what did you order?
Thank you
You are welcome @Charles Ho
Did the brake light bulb work with the headlights on and while pressing the brake pedal? Did you have the electronic flashing relay already installed??
Yes, the light that is for the brake lights do come on with the head lights on, acting like a marker light. Yes they also come on when the brake pedal is pushed. If you installed LED... try flipping the LED in the socket 180°. It happens. Yes, I also have a video on how to change the flasher relay to the Smart Tap Flasher relay. I hope that answers your questions.
@@IamWedge What is a "marker light"?
@@TippyPuddles The small lights on the Side of the housings.
I looked up Diode Dynamics. $150 for a set of high or low beams!!!Maybe if they last 5 times as long.
They already have a 3 year warranty. For me they are worth it.
Trust me, they are pricey but worth every penny. I get compliments left and right, not to mention the great light output, minimal glare, 3 yr warranty, made in USA, and functionality of upgraded LED lights. Also, Diode Dynamics has a sale for 15% off til April 10 if you want to get them.
@@dynezxice You got that right!
I tried to get the brake light out and it broke! The plastic around it wouldn't let go. It's a 2013. Help!
The Socket for the brake light broke? Which piece broke? Is it the housing for the brake light bulb?
@@IamWedge Just the bulb. I tried wiggling and pulling straight out. Then I used force with a tool. Now all I have is wires and glass shards plus a cut finger. Put it back on. I finally found a guy who had the same problem and he used a pic and pliers to get the rest out of the plastic housing. I couldn't even get the main connection out. Seems all old. Put the whole thing back on for now. It's amazing how easy men pull the bulbs out but that seems on newer cars. Granted I am a woman who thought she could do this. Debating what to do next.
Housing and socket are fine just old, and dusty.
I took it to a mechanic and he picked out glass and wire, then said it wasn't your fault, it was designed with a flaw that no mechanic could get it out. Thanks for your Help!
@@Cecilia621000 If the bulb lasted almost 10 years that's impressive. With many of the sockets on most cars, removing/breaking free a stubborn connection the first time can be frustrating. I'm glad you got it fixed.
The 7443 u bought for the break light is white color or red color?
The Stock 7443 bulb is clear like glass. The upgraded LED I installed is RED.
Mine are white for the 7443.
Followed your guidance and thank you!
You are welcome @jjrscjjrsc
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks @TheEgyptianGamerGeek :)
Thanks! Stopped at "socket wrench" cuz that's the tip I needed, plus WHERE to unscrew. Stupid manual says to use a flat head in a Phillips screw and the illustration is from a different model. Thanks! Solved!
Hey @Victoria E. I tried the Phillips screwdriver on that "bolt" the first time. As the bolr had never been removed before it was plenty tight and set rather well. Using a ratchet was the best means to remove it. Glad You were able to get the lens off. :)
Thanks. Someone smashed into me yesterday and broke the whole lens. Gotta replace today. Now I know how to get it off, unplug, plug new one on and put back in.....
@Henry Lee sorry to hear about your car getting damaged. Hope it was only the lens and not any body damage. Just make sure to place all the sockets in the correct spots. Take Care and good luck with the repair.
Thank you !!! This worked well for replacing my brake light.
You are Welcome. Glad it worked for you @Katy Kern
I’ve changed my own bulb for over ten years and Subaru is the first car I cannot get the break bulb out 😢 almost everything online said I’m gonna have to break it if I don’t want to go to the dealership ugh
I hope you didn't have to break the bulb @stellarxphase . Removing that bulb for the first time can be sticky. I hope everything worked out for you.
thank you very much great and well explain video
Great work on this video! Very detailed. Thanks for your support!
Thank you @Diode Dynamics for you kind comment. Thanks for stopping by. I'm already thinking of the next project. :)
Thanks a lot! It all worked just like you demonstrated in the video and voice over. Perfect!
You are very welcome @Joel Warren Glad it worked out for you. :)
Thank you for your videos. God bless
I did it!!! I followed your instructions and it worked out. YAY!! Thank you!
Congrats @Ms. Scullark nice Job!
Thank you SO much!!!! (a woman)
You are welcome @Lillian L Congrats on doing it yourself!
What color did choose for the side marker lights? Since it’s located in the red part of the housing. Would another color even show through the red plastic?
And I’m ordering the LED flasher.
But upgrading brake, back up, and side marker lights don’t necessary need the module? Is the flasher module only for signal lights hyperblink fix or you also need it to run LED in general?
Great vids by the way!
The side marker lights in the rear were Side marker light (Red) # DD0030P Lumens = 92 (from Diode Dynamics. The flasher module is for the blinkers. Yes, it fixes the hyper flashing. Hyper flashing happens normally when you lose a light (burned out). With LEDs the voltage draw is lower so the system thinks you have burned out a bulb. As for a different color in the rear markers. I'm sure the red lens would still give it a red like appearance.
IamWedge Thanks for the reply! It helped out on my decision with my light upgrades. I’ll sub and check out your other vids.
You got it @@pdilla1763. You will love how they look on your car.
HI. Thanks for the video. Where did you get these lights? Online or local store?
Anyone know the name of those white pins? I broke mine first time replacing the light and need to buy some new ones 😓
The dealership will have those part numbers. They are just guide pins for the taillight housing.
One of mine broke too and I just used JB plastic weld and put it back together, it held great.
Needed this! Thank you for posting! :)
You got it @Savannah Spliedt Everything turn out ok for ya?
Thank you. Helping my son change his
You are welcome @Chris Craft. Hope it went smoothly for the two of you.
Nice video, thanks!

Hi
Morning Calvin
I am always grateful to people who upload concise and well shot explanations on youtube for specific tasks
Thanks @sualocin I've seen many videos that leave steps out. I want you guys and gals to be able to fix things on your vehicles. Yes, the video is a little longer. But, you get to save on the labor costs at the shop.
