I wonder how many people stop to think about what an incredible time we live in? Learning guitar in the '70s, '80s I could have only dreamed of being able to sit in on a conversation like this with pro musicians of this magnitude - to be a "fly on the wall" while these guys talk shop. I would have paid $$$ back then and here, we're getting it for free! Thanks, Tim and Pete for sharing this with us!
Couldn't agree more, the info just wasn't out there, especially if you didn't live in a region where guys like this plied their trade day to day
Yes, I agree entirely, in those days it was so much harder to find out how things were done. Given that we are all constantly learning, how good are THESE days; these are wonderful days!
I marvel at that, too. I didn't even really know these kinds of guys existed back then.
The synergy between these guys. Really, the sum is greater than the parts. And the parts are great too by themselves.
Pete Thorn is so legendary, humble, and talented! Amazing and appreciative to see you to talk with such knowledge. Always a pleasure to tune in
RC32 hey thanks- Tim is a true legend! I feel fortunate to get to hang with him!!!
@@PeteThorn That's really great to hear indeed! You two are absolutely talented and prolific without a doubt!
Pete Thorn That was amazing, what exactly were you using scale wise in that solo?
You guys represent the best things in music! Phenomenal ability, humility, a desire to share, and generally a sense of love for the guitar and the music you play on it!
Thank you both!
This information is so valuable! 2 great musicians sharing on the job experiences-love it!! "Remember"
I’ve been waiting for a new Tim & Pete show...
Yeah, me too! Always good to see them together.
SAME
Me too!
Agreed!
What a great interview and couple of music connoisseurs. This video is priceless. Cheers mr Pierce!
I always look forward to watching Tim & Pete share their hard-earned wisdom with the rest of the guitar community. Honestly, it's a great blessing. Here's to many (more) years of success to you both! You guys ROCK!
Man, I loved this. Pete Thorn and Tim Pierce in the same video together.....riffing; Awesome!
Tim and Pete always good to see you guys sharing your knowledge and experience. Thanks
Best two guys on the internet! Great to see them back together again.
I wonder where I would be without all of these irreplaceable tips. I use this stuff all the time. University of RUclips, with Professor Tim Pierce and Pete Thorn. You guys rock - Thank You so Much!!
Thanks for posting Tim, I've been jonesing for a new episode of the Tim & Pete Show! This definitely "scratched the itch".
I could listen to these guys all day long.
Thanks Tim, Super insightful , Warm and Welcoming. You guys are really super special, we are lucky to get these moments and be part of a fantastic community.
Tim you and Pete are such inspirations, thank both of you for your work and Please keep it coming.
Awesome as always - Really good to see you guys together again!!!
This video actually made me feel a lot better about myself as a musician, I’m pretty much the same with my process and have all the same challenges.
I agree, even though these guys are among the best at what they do, everything they say is understandable and is a applicable to local guys (although I doubt I'll ever play a tune with the original artists, lol)
Dead on 👌🏻
Always enjoy it when these two get together and share!
For the love of music... Two dude's who really move forward because of their passion for music... Thanks!
Thanks guys. So great to hear what things are still a challenge to such seasoned pros. Hearing Pete hesitate in the queen/eagles remind me you guys are real people!
The personal exchanges at the last part of this clip were worth more than 100 hot lick demonstrations. The combined advice and ideas from your reminiscences were a veritable gold mine of suggestions for keeping your cool in the real world, when the spotlights and red lights are on. Thanks so much to you both for this - it's priceless.
Great, great advice! Everything you point out is a thing that will have you confidently prepared when the lights come up on stage.
I could listen to you guys chatting about this stuff all day. You are both so inspirational.
Oooh...this is so excellent...loving this!!!!!!!! 💗💗💗
TWO OF THE BEST! great video.
Wow, best opening Jam Video ever with Tim Pierce & Pete Thorn. Great playing.🎸🎶🎵🎼
Always good together. Good to get back to the Tim and Pete show.
So killer watching two guitar veterans talk about how the prepare to go into battle . Great clip !!!
Two of the best. Good fun!
Very solid advice! Being prepared really goes a long way. Thanks Tim!
So cool!!! What a great segment!!!
You two seem like you really enjoy hanging out and talking with each other. Super fun to watch, it doesn't feel forced at all
I have taken Pete Thorn for granted, I won't do that ever again. This was a great video thanks to both of you gentlemen, thank you.
Good to see Pete sharing great advice. Back in 2011, on forums, it was painful trying to get any response longer than a line or two from Pete.... he seems much more laid back and free to share now!
Two great guitar players but I've got to say that Tim's choice of notes and phrasing sends me over the moon. If I lived a thousand years I still wouldn't be able to pull off what he does. But I'd outlive everybody, so I guess I can live with that.
You two are so great together...
Wow, such a great episode Tim, thank you. So incredibly useful and interesting to hear how two masters go about their trade/craft/art. And also so amazing to hear how two masters are also very human (the references to forgetfulness and how to manage it etc).
Fantastic insights. Bravo! Thanks for sharing the craft and love of the art!!
Thanks guys for sharing your knowledge. Always a good refresher for me and things to consider...
Make that, TWO legends, both humble and real. This was really super helpful, as an amateur I had the perception pros could pick up cold and play effortlessly. The two of you reinforcing the dedication to the craft, internalizing the music, and untold hours preparation is what separates the guys who truly can nail it, from the hacks like me thinking flawless playing just comes natural. Great video Tim and Pete 👍🏻
You two have great chemistry together!
Great to see you guys back together again :-)
Great vid Tim. Best part was completing the video and realizing, "I'm not the only one...This is normal" as it applies to what I find myself going through. Fun = knowing the material. Not knowing it = stress and tension.
Love it!
Incredibly helpful video.
Thank you both.
pete rocks! great video tim
17:16 Thorn shines on Queen!
Thank you so much for this video. That wasn't only inspiring musically but life-affirming. I've been hanging out with too many people that are not into mastering and perfecting their craft which has affected me. Your video is just what the doctor ordered. Thank you!! 🙏🙌
Fly on the wall stuff. Great info. Rock on!
dang TIM,i love your style of playing guitar and the notes you chooe are just brilliant.excellent job man.
Great video, great listen! Thanks guys!
Great Video, always a great hang watching you two guys , it's like sitting in Tim's living room for a jam and chat :)
This was fun to watch and HEAR! Thanks!
Two amazing guitarists
Love it when toppys (tops at their game like you guys) sit and chat about this stuff.... I honestly feel like sometimes you forget the cameras rolling and you forget its a vid and the "real" stuff flows......... thats what I like... keep up the awesome work..... cheers from down under
Wow, what a fantastic video! You guys were both playing great but man, Pete was on fire in the jam!
Thanks a lot for these wonderful tips too!
Two cool guys, loaded with talent, no egos at all. Nice.
Excellent video guys! Very inspiring!
Two of the nicest guys I would ever want to hang with. Consummate professionals, yet down-to-earth, and so generous in sharing their knowledge and experience. Great video.
Thanks guys great tips. They will be used.
Thank You Tim Magnificent
Wow, just what I needed right now. I am in the process of learning 90 minutes of material for a Johnny Cash/June Carter review and I'm seeing how even with so called simple songs it's important to respect the material and not take it for granted.
Great tips thanks for sharing legends!
TP and PT, love it.
This is truly the best \ informative guitar video I have ever seen..
Yup 👍🏼. For life not just guitar
Tim is always so very humble that I started to doubt myself and wonder if maybe he isn't as good as I always thought he was so it's nice to hear Pete Thorn say he is and I'm not crazy after all
Thanks guys. Everything you talked about made me feel ... normal . I thought my memory sucked .lol Really really nice presentation. Thanks again .
Great to see y'all jammin together.
Pete, you did freakin’ nail it on the Ultimate Queen Celebration gig. Thanks for holding it down for me, I got a big kick out of watching those fan videos. I only wish that we could play together! but we are never in the same place at the same time!
Great video, as usual the both of you are laying out invaluable advice to any aspiring musician. And killer licks!
tristan avakian thanks Tristan!!! You positively NAIL it on that gig!!!
Oh! That Pete Thorn will keep a man on his toes. Awesome video!!
I remember a video from both of you where Tim played the most incredible guitar solo- and Pete also said it was amazing- I want to hear that again - but can't remember what video it was in- it was unbelievable, guess that could be any video you two do. Just liked that one solo, it had it all
I really miss the Tim and Pete show (I've rewatch all 17 episodes half a dozen times or more, the Fred Thompson probably 10) its great to see you two together again thanks a bunch gents. As a neophyte player I learned loads from both of you kinda like the Lads at That Pedal Show the subject matter of the video be it something no where near my interests I always watch because I always learn something new. Besides whether its Tim, Pete, Mick and Dan ya'll are just entertaining and funny as hell.
I love that many of us are in different places but same headspaces! So many of the things you guys talked about I also do and I feel like you guys get it:)
Learned a lot from this, thanks!
Awesome and seriously interesting show.
Brilliant advice here and lots of stuff that i just realised that i do too, even though I’ve not really analysed myself doing it. The thing i really need to get more focused on is the pre-gig warmup and headspace. It’s something that i used to do alot but in recent years I’ve allowed myself to get sidetracked, and suddenly it’s time to go on. Hitting the stage cold is a weird thing and can be very uncomfortable. I’m definitely going back to shutting myself off in practice mode for half an hour beforehand. Thanks for the great content guys.
smashing advice. just sent this to all my students. thanks boys
Awesome guys !! YEOW
2 legends. LEGENDS!!!!
I'm glad I do most of the things in the video, I just hope I get to a point of playing half as good as Pete Thorn or Tim Pierce at anything momentarily. I wish I could go into rehearsals more prepared and on the ball though! I slip sometimes. But I am glad there are plenty of ways to learn and get by. It usually isn't the end of the world!
I love and really resonate (as I get older) with the concept of respecting your own pace of learning.
If you push too hard, then you achieve nothing. Better to achieve something than nothing - but the reality is, once you know your own pace, you get to learn how long it will take to get through the work-load and you set realistic expectations (whether for yourself or your customers). But not only that, you generally exceed your own expectations and achieve far more than you thought you would. So just crack on but take as long as it takes.
And this translates also to things like cutting those videos: it would be really easy to think "shit, I've got a tonne of film to work through" - at which point it becomes a foreboding chore.
BUT ... if you just accept that it will take its time and stop focusing on doing things faster than their own pace, then it comes together, you push it out and you move on to the next thing on the list.
And before you know it - that foreboding mountain of work (doom) that you were focused on has passed.
And it DID NOT take forever.
So hat off to you, Mister Thorn. I love your work. (p.s. If I buy a guitar like yours I'll also be able to play like a legend, right? ;P )
Thank you for the video guys! Help me a lot!!! Greetings from Spain :D
First ...The two best personalities on You Tube are Pete and Tim....Love the feel of hanging with the two of you...That is how I relate to this video...Also the lack of Bull and the realness of your talent and lack of ego...I REALLY loved how you shared a very personal moment with Chris Cornell about the "One Word" on a card as a reminder...Feel blessed to have shared the space of time with him, As I am sure he felt blessed to have shared personnel time with you....Thank BOTH of you for this video...And Please slip 10% of your talent in to a envelope and send it to me...PLEASE...I need it !
Great video.
0:50 I will learn those three Tim Pierce licks so help me god
Playback speed slow down time. That's how I learnt that Go Your Own Way solo from when Bruce Watson visited the Piercemeister on here.
triadic +sus ---> da blues, methinks
Number 15 at 16:45 properly hit home, I was doing a queen tribute gig and we did some quite bing gigs in Europe and I'd be running. That outro from bo rhap every single time, over and over before stepping on stage.
Just attended the Pete Thorn Clinic at NStuff Music in Blawnox (Pittsburgh) today!
Great!
I find that, and this may sound obvious, but knowing the major scale inside out really helps when memorising a song. Instead of thinking "aw yeah the chorus is C, D, Am, G" I think "4, 5, 2, 1". Maybe that's only me but the number system and knowing the function of the chord helps me memorise songs quicker. Also helps when keys need to get changed or if you need to capo somewhere for a different voicing. Great video as always thanks!
Love Pete's laugh!
This is gospel. I'm actually busy prepping for a show with a new act, and this couldn't have come at a better time. Preach Tim and Pete!
Awesomeness!!!!!
I saw Frank Vignola with Vinny Raniolo and a small venue. Oh my gosh we could here them backstage warming up. Sounded like they played the whole concert right there before they went on.
Tim and Pete what a combo get out there you two
Hey, it's Tim and Pete's Guitar Show! It's back! I missed it ;)
Only a Canadian would have the emotional antenna to detect Eddie’s momentary lapse of social energy.
This was awesome. Just hearing that the 'pros' having the same rituals before a gig. I guess that's what makes them pros - never take anything for granted.
Stellar video gents !! Funniest thing, I have a rehearsal tomorrow morning, subbing on guitar and vocals and had 9 medleys and 20 songs to learn !! Took me about 4 weeks ...
Great video, I've OD'd on too much talent. Amazing. Thanks.
Love those curtains Tim!
