I always admired his riding but seeing the way he talks and his attitude just confirms the great person he is. Gonna watch his old videoparts right now!
Man, I cannot believe that! I am a huge fan! Just remember being a young kid in the south of Brazil back in the 2000's. No internet, no BMX videos until the day a kid who had family in the US started to bring some BMX DVD's to us in the country side. What a happiness, for years every weekend the BMX kids gathered together at my home, we watched a BMX DVD and went to ride. Such a good time, just bmx and friends, no stress, no smartphones :) I do remember watching Mike so many times! This is the best wave BMX has ever had! Joe Rich, Taj, Ruben, Van Homan... This guys inspired a whole bunch of BMX'ers in my town. May not sound important, but that created a friendship between us that still remains and is solid as a rock. I had to stop riding due to back problems in 2011, but still have all my dvd's and still up to date on BMX. If there is a time I could go back to, would definitely be my 2000's decade!
A true legend of BMX..filmed nothing but bangers from Road Fools, Anthem 2, Holly Fit and so on does not matter what edit..I'm 36 and ride the way I ride because of Aitken..an inspiration, idol, and super good dude. I have my Fit Motomike Frame hanging in my living room over my T.V..☝🏼🤙🏼🚲
I caught a rare spinal cord disease at 15 and woke up completely paralyzed and on a ventilator.Spent the first 3 months with no way to communicate other than blinking. The first two times they took me off the ventilator all I did was beg them to let me die because of the pain. They would just knock me out and I would wake up on the vent again. I was told there was little to no chance of me walking again. I had to learn how to use my hands again ,how to crawl, stand, and then walk. Took me a little under two years. It's all about mindset, being determined, and not giving up.A good dose of stubbornness and enjoying proving people wrong definitely helped too. I had a great support system. My Dad, always being extremely direct and brutally honest, would tell me when I would bitch and complain that,"I know you need to vent, but the bitching and complaining ain't gonna get your ass out of that wheelchair any faster." To this day every time I scratch my nose I appreciate how awesome it is just to be able to do.Because once I experienced what it's like to have your face itching like a thousand spiders are running across it and I couldn't scratch it or tell anyone to scratch it for me, just had to lay there screaming in my head,it made me appreciate the smallest of actions on a ridiculously high level. Its a cliche saying but it's true.. it's the little things that make life so awesome, believe me those little things will be the first things you miss, and miss the most, the second you are unable to do them.So try to enjoy life and appreciate all the little things. I am 39 and got back into riding a couple years ago and it has helped me mentally and physically far more than any medicine or therapy I have done, and I have done ALOT! Also the BMX community is one of the best groups of people I have ever experienced or met. After winning a frame from Alfredo Mancuso a couple months ago I have had constant messages from people wishing me well, telling me to keep riding, and asking me how I am doing and how the build is going. All that from random strangers who don't even know me but they take time out of their day to see how I am doing and encouraging me to keep riding. They are proof of the fact that there are many many good people still out there.Just keep peddling and remember that even the smartest of people can still be completely wrong.Anything is possible with the right mindset and game plan. Impossible is a word only found in the dictionary of a fool.-Napoleon I used to laugh when I was leaning to use forks and spoons again. My arm muscles started to come back and nerves starting to fire and while trying to eat they would spasm and I would sling food all over the place and it was frustrating but it lost almost all of it's frustration once I started to laugh about it.HUGE game changer! Again, alot comes down to the attaining the right mindset and perspective. Love these ten spot videos!!
Got into bmx five years ago never seen or heard of him but one edit and it was evident the guy has a style u cant copy. His dirt riding is so loose yet controlled and it passed into everything else.
I was up front leaning on the rail at that Dew Tour that Mike won. He even signed my UGP hoodie for me. As a Utah kid that was on his bike every moment possible that was one of the coolest moments of my life up to that point. To see the home town legend win it was amazing. I have never seen that much style thrown into one run before or since. Even 3 hours away over here in Vernal we all wanted to be like Mikey. We had the tight pants, slammed seats, going pegless and throwing as big of 180s as possible. If there is a BMX hall of Fame this man deserves to be its first inductee.
Absolutely grounded honest dude, glad to see Mike back enjoying life. I grew up watching him and the guys from little devil, Philadelphia biking for life. After a decade gone I just got back into biking.
I grew up riding BMX and skating. I moved on to riding scooters and was lucky enough to have a long successful career, Mike was a huge inspiration to my riding. I wasn’t injured anywhere near as serious as Mike was, but a knee injury has made the last five years of my life pretty difficult. It has taken all of my confidence away. I’ve done the same as Mike and looked back at my old video parts and I find our perceptions of our old parts were the same until after our injuries. I now wish I could ride that way again. But I find myself worried of bailing even on easier combos and relying on my bad knee, possibly reinjuring it. It really does open your eyes and realize how good you had it. Long live Aitken!
Mike hearing you talk about everything, life, bike riding, family, is really heartfelt and really touched me man.. I'm from the mid-school and always loved your style and the way you rode was everything I wanted my riding to emulate, and now your positive attitude and outlook on life is something I want to emulate... (I'm still trying to figure out how to ride like you lol) mad respect to you brother!
Ha I've been doing 1 foot can can's, and tire grabs for 15 years and i can still not fathom taking my hand off and grabbing the tire mid can can. #LEGEND
Best style in the world to this day. That flow Is mesmerizing. Great to see more from Mike and hope we get to see more in the future. Mad props to staying positive through it all, Mike. You continue to be an inspiration.
The GOAT. Been my favorite rider since I first saw a Northeast trails article in an article of SNAP magazine. I believe he still rode for Mosh back then.
So good to see him in high spirits. Figured his fav trick would've been the table or turndown, and props to him for givin God the glory. Glory to the Most High...
Crazy he sees his roots as mostly trails he was such an amazing park rider. Ghost Ice picks on huge sub boxes to fakie in!!! Just sticks out in my head from early 2000
Never forget seeing Mike ride ECT for the square one wide awake nightmare tour. This man almost hits the roof on a wall ride to 180. That shit will forever be stuck in my brain and amazing. True legend.
Aitken is amazing dude. Such great spirit and inspiration for all around life. plus dude slays on a bike, probably still slays more than most. Hell ya brother
I like how you guys saved the best question for last, Mike those Volvo’s are siiiick! Wagons are where it’s at honestly. I have a SRT8 Magnum, warmed over a bit to about 450hp, my boys fit good, it goes pretty well too lol & I too can toss my bike back there. Glad you guys are working on the TransAm still. We love you Mike Aitken, you’ve been an inspiration.
Glad you're doing good dude, over 40 now but I still try and get out to the park once a year and just carve the bowl.getting old sucks and all the damage to my body over all them years of just plain out bashing.Man I miss riding and traveling to different cities and meeting up with locals and just thrashing, good times, ride hard friends🤙🤙
Yo so much more respect for Mike! He is truly a survivor in this sport. With a great heart and positive out look on life and BMX. I remember when he did Stay Fit his part shocked me. He did a huge fakie drop in of this roof top. I fell in love with his riding.
Mike was always my favorite rider. I always wanted to ride like him and be like him. I used to live a few hours from SLC and I'd ride there once in a while and I'd get to ride with all the Utah locals and, by far, Mike Aitken and Matt Beringer were the coolest to me even though I'm sure I was an annoying fanboy. I idolized Mike. He's a great person.
Mike was the first person I saw go through adversity in my Bmx bubble I.e on videos and magazines and to try to comprehend that stuff is mental but him like scotty to just say well that sucked I better pick myself up is just mind blowing. True legend Bmx is blessed to have you init now do palaver podcast so you can give Chris shit for an hour or two haha 🖖🏻
I was in an 8 day coma I wish I could talk to you about our experiences the coma is a real trip man and I’m still overcoming it mentally that it happened
I always admired his riding but seeing the way he talks and his attitude just confirms the great person he is. Gonna watch his old videoparts right now!
He's a great person, good comments bro

One of the coolest dudes alive right there. Always liked Mike Aitken from way back in the original F-it days!

Best shredder, best attitude... BMX needs more Aitkens!
Love this so much. Aitken will always be one of my all time favorite riders.

The GOAT. Been my favorite rider since I first saw a Northeast trails article in an article of SNAP magazine. I believe he still rode for Mosh back then.
why was Goat his nickname?
@@fizzyfish-k4q that wasnt his nickname. It stands for Greatest Of All Time
Doh! I actually thought it might've had something to do with his grey beard. I feel like an ass now.

No PA native actually says “Pennsylvania”
