I never heard something like that from BlackBerry-Legacy-Device Users (BlackBerry OS5-7). Although, removing the battery when the BB is on can cause problems on BB10 Devices, but normally not on the Legacy-Devices

For the Modern Blackberry, no need to remove battery.
Only Press "Alt + CapsLock + Del) in the same time will restart and clean your blackberry automatically.

@loobbaba it doest actually maybe you let go of the alt key b4 you press you have to hold the alt key while you press the lglg like how you do ctrl z on a pc keybord to undo something..... try it again!

are there any tricks like this for the touch version of the curve - 9380? I don't think the phone is that slow, but it will be good to clean it and if possible to put into use these tips.. It is impossible to do most of the things she mentioned on a touch :(

@zipiol That only hides the log. The log is still running, but hidden. You must clear it to actually get rid of it.

insted of removing your battery to reset the phone, why not try to press ALT + right SHIFT key + DEL key (2x) at the same time... that will restart your phone easily... ^_^
