If you're practiced in dancing, heels, and/or have good body awareness it's actually not that hard. Some people also just take to heels better than others. My Dad was prepped to teach me(as the only one in the house who could still wear them at the time lol Mom has knee problems) but due to how I walk naturally I'm more comfortable running about in heels or barefoot than your typical flats(Ballet shoes are so thin soled that I also like those. It's like walking barefoot without the hazard of rough rocks pricking your feet lol) and have been since I put on my little barely heeled mary janes at age 5. It's very much being aware of yourself and the environment around you. Like if I'm surprised by a slick spot I'll likely manage to catch myself but I will trip. If I'm aware of it I can work with it. You learn how the heel works and how to work with it and with your body. And how it moves on different flooring options. For some people, like me, it just clicks from the start. For others it's practice practice practice(with the amount needed varying from person to person and some can only manage say a dance they've practiced extensively while others once they know how it feels to do certain moves in heels vs flats can transfer that and all inbetween). For others it doesn't click how matter you try. To make it look so effortless though definitely takes practice just like any dance routine!
