      PSSR cost 2ms of frame time, 120 fps, 8.3ms. 8.3ms + 2ms=10ms which is around 100fps, exactly what we see on the video.

    We have to keep in mind that PSSR is brand new and has some room to grow, but its still pretty good for a new AI upscaler.
    Go see some videos of DLSS 1.0
    6 years ago when it came out in Battlefield V and Metro Exodus, it was even worse than what PSSR is now, way worse in my opinion

  • @relentless_wanderer
    @relentless_wanderer 4 часа назад +1

    PSSR isn't an issue here. The upscaler gives us an opportunity to use full RT in-game.
    The trade-off is a softer image, cuz the resolution is way lower than performance mode.
    But, if you want a sharper image, you can use it with or without PSSR in Frame Rate Mode.
    That's a fair choice. Full RT Reflections with a lower resolution (w/ a bit of shimmering, aliasing, and crap like this), or a clean picture without advanced RT tech.
    In PS5 Base, RT hurted the frame rate a lot and only works on replay. That's a clear upgrade here, and we can even turn on and off PSSR for a tailored experience.
    Whatever you think about PSSR and PS5 Pro, like it or not, that's some great stuff in this patch.
    And we have a great upgrade for PSV2 users.

    Great video. I was waiting for this. Curious to see the difference between the base ps5 and ps5 pro in performance mode. I feel like most people select “prioritize frame-rate” using the base ps5. My assumption is that performance mode on the ps5 pro will maintain a higher resolution and add “a little” ray tracing. I’m pretty sure 120fps mode on ps5 pro is no ray tracing. So it would need to be performance mode at 60fps to get “some” ray tracing.

    I’m think the option to disable it in games is fantastic as it means with further updates of PSSR it would be far easier for them to also update their game for when PSSR improves.
    From what I can gather PSSR upscaled the base resolution of the game but it really needs at least 1440p to give good results anyway.
    Being hardware based AI though like DLSS Sony can keep improving it over time with data they collect on how it performs.

  • @CommanderKrennic
    @CommanderKrennic 5 часов назад

    Digital Foundry confirmed that PSSR costs 2ms per frame. So with it on you will lose some performance in exchange for detail. At frame rates that high in GT7 it is up to the user. I think some people who don't understand PSSR expected it to be the magic bullet to fix everything. There is a cost to use it. It is very early in its life and will improve over time like DLSS. Games like Spider Man, TLOU 1 & 2, Ragnorak render an incredible amount of detail at 4K. Sometimes even more sharp looking. There may be some artifacts or grain. The best part of GT7 and Ragnorak is you have the option not to use PSSR if you want even higher frame rates. Thanks for the coverage as always!

    I think the fact that Both Horizon updates from Sony opted to use their own method of Temporal upscaling says a lot for current condition of PSSR at least with some game engines.
    The issue really is why are developers updating games with it and not testing quality before releasing patches.

    In the external views the problems you get on the car edges, light glare at night on some paints, weird materials, etc, using RT are too evident.
    In the cockpit view, especially at night you have some lighting effects and reflections which improve the general looking. But some materials looks ugly (as happen in the exterior).

    Turning off pssr you lose ray tracing. You need to enable it for rt to work. Seeing others use 120 fps and expecting ray tracing to work also. It's only used in 60fps and pssr enabled. Not understanding what people are expecting. Rt is taxing and I'm playing on my g4. Yes their are some inconsistencies but as is it looks great. Improvements possibly can be done with rt but I highly doubt it.

    The same thing over and over again. Better RT and slightly higher resolution at the cost of lower sharpness and unstable image. Or better image but at the cost of even lower framerate. Or double the framerate at the cost of worse settings and image quality. And sometimes the image is even worse than before and even lower framerate. And all of this for double the $$$. That's just crazy.
    If I wanted to mess around with settings, I would just buy a PC. And I don't even need to upgrade to a GPU that's twice as expensive. I just turn on RT and upscaling and boom, the image quality and FPS go to hell too. Why anyone would wait 4 years and pay $700 just to be able to change the settings is beyond me.
