  • Peanut butter is one of life's delicious indulgences and it pairs well with just about anything.
A good peanut butter contains a reservoir of CoQ10, resveratrol, and phytosterols that help with cholesterol metabolism, as well as a whole host of vitamins and minerals.
When choosing a peanut butter, I would look for 100% Valencia peanuts and only two ingredients - organic peanuts and sea salt.
Valencia peanuts are mostly grown in dry climates, making it difficult for Aspergillus to grow, the fungus that produces the dreaded disease and cancer-promoting aflatoxin.
Once you have ensured your peanut butter is from 100% Valencia peanuts, then I would look for roasted peanut butter.
Roasting can decrease aflatoxin content by 61-90% depending on how much heat is used in the roasting process. Note: According to a 2020 study, roasting increases the potential for allergenicity.
Unfortunately, if you are allergic to peanuts, you are going to have to pass on all manner of peanuts or peanut butter, no matter how organic and aflatoxin free it is. However, there are studies that indicate that Sublingual Immunotherapy is a therapy that has helped people overcome peanut allergies and may be worth looking into.
In today's video, I also share why you might consider almond butter and my anecdotal experiences with patients, peanut butter and weight-loss.

Good to see a video about this! I am sensitive to mycotoxins and generally feel unwell after exposure. Had to stop eating peanut butter and dried fruits which helped a lot. There is one brand in the UK (Plant Generation) that makes mycotoxin free peanut butter (it's also sprouted). I would still prefer to make my own but can't find organic valencia peanuts here yet.

I think you're mistaken. I believe all peanuts are grown underground--Valencia included. I tried to find exceptions to this rule and couldn't find anything. Can you provide any evidence that Valencia peanuts are grown above ground?

No, I heard the some peanut are grown kind of hanging so that means no mold. I am also looking for this ones seems the Valencia peanuts are not grown underground.

Awesome thank you for this!! I fermented my organic peanuts in water and whey for 48 hours, then dried them in a low temp oven overnight for 12 hours. I made the peanut butter today with only sea salt added. Although they weren’t Valencia peanuts and I will def be getting those next time. I have heard that Valencia peanuts have a sweeter taste too? I usually buy Teddy brand organic PB and it is definitely sweeter than what I made today. I wonder if they use Valencia peanuts in their recipe? Thanks for this video!

Interesting video. I have found some peanut butter upsets my stomach but Kirkland aka Costco does not. Love that stuff… In moderation of course!

Thank you so much for this video. I was just looking on the shelves for some peanut butter yesterday for my daughter at her request. I don’t eat it because of its estrogenic effect. However, I miss it very much and I am tempted to have small amounts now of that brand you mentioned I noticed it’s at Walmart. I’m highly allergic to mold so the aflatoxins are definitely a factor for me. Is anything safe in this world ?!?!

NOW I understand why the American peanut butter gives me allergyc reaction like anaphylactic shock (brands like Kirkland specifically) but not the peanut bean by itself, it's because the peanut bean is roasted, and tastes sweetened.

    Good morning, Dr. Matt
As a child growing up in Cameroun, I learned and helped my mum to sow peanut.
What are the benefits of eating raw peanuts as we always do all across Africa please?
    Thank you very much.
