These are some amazing rescue robots! See them all at the DARPA Robotics Challenge with Annie Gaus: dne.ws/1cU9DDP

why delete the sci fi video?
I zoned out somewhere in the middle as the pieces started to fit:
DARPA + Robots + Japan = METAL GEAR
the biggest challenge to robotics now is power source. It needs a lightweight high capacity portable power source. The weight of huge batteries drains lots of energy.
Isn't it possible to store electricity between atoms or something? Just figure out how to do that without it costing more then the U.S. Government is worth & you've got lightweight portable power for not only robots but cars & helicopters too.
the closest thing we have now is a graphene supercapacitor which is still in its infancy stages of development.
Of coarse Japan would win.
Japan would win a robot building competition even if they didn't compete in it. They just own that sh*t.
1:46 well there goes those robots. google will probably destroy those too
I wouldn't surprise the Japanese team came out on top.
Japan's To do list:
1) Win DARPA challenge
2) Gundams
thank you for uploading this video
All hail Google, our new overlords.
Science is advancing faster than I thought it would.
Because DARPA totally built a 6 foot 2 super space battle robot to "help" people
Ah yes, of course Japan would win a robot building competition. Was there any doubt?
It's good to see the Japanese team do so well. Is the internal circuitry shielded from high doses of radiation? This is the technology we need to contain Fukushima. Not too many people are aware that there were 3 full meltdowns, also known as China Syndromes because they melt through the containment vessel and into the soil, theoretically, all the way to China.
When I saw the thumbnail, I really thought, "Can it be??". It was a nice surprise to see Annie doing tech. news again! I know that she has another news channel, but it's updated irregularly. It would be cool to have Annie come on more often -- no offense to the other hosts, I just have my own bias.
didn't I watch this a couple days ago already?
...Made in Japan...
-.-
Bought by google...
lmfao exactly how I felt! I literally said aloud "wtf?" when I heard "team schaft, a japan based company.." I mean... I'm not patriotic I despise my country and im not xenophobic but it's always nice to see that new technology is coming from your country lol. But at least the robot doesn't have a nice shiny sticker plastered on the side that says "Made in China" LOL.
Anything requiring high tech that is worth anything is Made in Japan & anything else is Made in China. Is it really any wonder why the U.S.A. is not the greatest nation anymore?
"Was acquired by Google." A phrase that will haunt the nightmares of our children as they struggle to stay alive after the fall of civilization. If only we had done something before it was too late.
That shot of the running robot wasn't 'Cheetah', it was 'Wild Dog', which goes less than half the speed of the actual Cheetah, which has an external power supply and can't run outside the laboratory treadmill.
I really like Annie she is a good host :)
Q: What do you call a frog robot?
A: Ribbit.
They say that robot is one bad mother...
Shut your mouth!
But I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft.
Then I can dig it.
I knew japan would win;
They implemented robotics to their society a very long time ago; so they are use to this
those japanesse and thier amazing robots
does anyone else feel like Americans only know how to market rather than build? and everyone else can build but don't know how to market?
Love this woman
Wow google bought boston dynamics AND schaft, thats a pretty powerful move into the robotics industry if i do say so myself.
Just an extra piece of information, NASA's Valkyrie scored 0/32..
Kinda embarassing.. xD Oh well!
Valkyrie kinda looks like they spent more time making it look cool than making it work well.
Is Google = Skynet?
under 301 yay
Annie you are in Dnews so often that you should stop guest hosting and and become a crew member
Robots to rescue humans from burning buildings and the like is great and all, but what happens when the robots one day ask themselves why they are doing so? What if the robots would rather not risk their lives and limbs to save us? And what happens when we try to force them to?
I was there!
correction 1:13 its not cheetah its wildcat of boston dynamics.
Is google going to give us the Schaft?
Hey DNews robots make a lot of noise with their pistons, actuators, and other parts. I was wondering what sound does muscle make? Organic life makes very little sound compared to machines.
They forgot to mention that NASA's robot Valkyrie scored 0/32
really? lol
its just a matter of time before they create a program to handle the trial and error faster.
man, they really go schafted
Imagine NSA with one of these shits WOW
Eyyy I was there
I'm a big fan of DNews! I was wondering, however, about something I saw recently. There is a book, and a movie based on it, that tells the story of a little boy who had a near death experience and saw heaven. The movie is called "Heaven is for Real", and Iwas wondering if it was possible that what it contains is, in fact, real.
im just here waiting for her buttons to come undone....
Do a video about MARTRAL LAW
What will Google acquire next?
Its own country. They'll call it Google Isle, a corporate paradise.
Again...Japan looks like they will have mecha LONG before we Americans ever will.. *slow claps*...aha
I just want one that will cook my meals and do the shopping.
Well shit...looks like DARPA will make a Metal Gear for real...
1:47 "Shaft as well as Boston Dynamics was acquired by Google earlier this year." Now why would an information-based company want to own the top two robotic research firms in the world? Hmm...
Am I having dejavu?
That's not cheetah...
That's Big Dog I believe.
plz become an official host :)
darpa is a pretty cool agency
its just too bad about donald anderson r.i.p
Is it just me? Or does everyone think it's a bit odd that the coverage of the winning robot was less than that of the losers. What was the point of just listing already well-known robots? Was it because the winning robot was foreign one?
#makeanniemorethanjustaguesthost
HAVE YOU NOT SEEN TERMINATOR!!!
I remember when people thought she replaced Laci.
Trust me when I tell you folks that DARPA doesnt give a tiny little shit about building anything for rescue.
XD Pause at 1:05 with captions on!!!
she has got a soft edge ! (i could totally motorboat those soft edges)
301+!!
JAPAN THE BEST in robotics. Probably first mobile suite is probably gonna be be maid there or sonething simliar.
"Disaster Response" ... who are they trying to fool here...
She's cute. Robots are cool too.
Google SUX
SKYNET
Which robot *came out* on top? If I had to guess I would say the one with advanced genitalia :U
I want the other girl !
Japan
Google is scary...
megaman should have won......
I subscribed for the other chick.
Great! Google owns robotic rescue companies, so when the robot comes to rescue you if you don't have a Google + account you wont be saved.
Annie you're gorgeous. Marry me!
9999
Of course it's the Japanese lol
get rid of this person or i will unsubscribe.
dude..... boobs
Oh no, 1 person out of 385,000 will unsubscribe. Please don't, their whole channel will become worthless!
Yes Im Going To Be That Guy You think dabbmundur is a dude?
I really really hate journalists who think they have the right to present important information without being dedicated to it. Get a new job. A dog could have done your job better.
