    I zoned out somewhere in the middle as the pieces started to fit:
    DARPA + Robots + Japan = METAL GEAR

    the biggest challenge to robotics now is power source. It needs a lightweight high capacity portable power source. The weight of huge batteries drains lots of energy.

    • @phyrath5
      @phyrath5 10 лет назад

      Isn't it possible to store electricity between atoms or something? Just figure out how to do that without it costing more then the U.S. Government is worth & you've got lightweight portable power for not only robots but cars & helicopters too.

      @operatorlink 10 лет назад +1

      the closest thing we have now is a graphene supercapacitor which is still in its infancy stages of development.

    Of coarse Japan would win.
    Japan would win a robot building competition even if they didn't compete in it. They just own that sh*t.

    It's good to see the Japanese team do so well. Is the internal circuitry shielded from high doses of radiation? This is the technology we need to contain Fukushima. Not too many people are aware that there were 3 full meltdowns, also known as China Syndromes because they melt through the containment vessel and into the soil, theoretically, all the way to China.

    When I saw the thumbnail, I really thought, "Can it be??". It was a nice surprise to see Annie doing tech. news again! I know that she has another news channel, but it's updated irregularly. It would be cool to have Annie come on more often -- no offense to the other hosts, I just have my own bias.

      lmfao exactly how I felt! I literally said aloud "wtf?" when I heard "team schaft, a japan based company.." I mean... I'm not patriotic I despise my country and im not xenophobic but it's always nice to see that new technology is coming from your country lol. But at least the robot doesn't have a nice shiny sticker plastered on the side that says "Made in China" LOL.

    • @phyrath5

      Anything requiring high tech that is worth anything is Made in Japan & anything else is Made in China. Is it really any wonder why the U.S.A. is not the greatest nation anymore?

    That shot of the running robot wasn't 'Cheetah', it was 'Wild Dog', which goes less than half the speed of the actual Cheetah, which has an external power supply and can't run outside the laboratory treadmill.

    Robots to rescue humans from burning buildings and the like is great and all, but what happens when the robots one day ask themselves why they are doing so? What if the robots would rather not risk their lives and limbs to save us? And what happens when we try to force them to?

    I'm a big fan of DNews! I was wondering, however, about something I saw recently. There is a book, and a movie based on it, that tells the story of a little boy who had a near death experience and saw heaven. The movie is called "Heaven is for Real", and Iwas wondering if it was possible that what it contains is, in fact, real.
