This is the best thing Simpsons have done in a while
I haven't seen a Treehouse of horror episode since probably 2009-10 this one was really good.
This is the most surreal thing the show has very done. It's note even the animation style it's just the fact that they're doing Death Note, a show which came out sixteen years ago, and going all in on the reference apropos of nothing seems so wierd.

The crazy part is that in 2008, there actually was a Simpsons Treehouse of Horrors comic book story entitled “Murder He Wrote” which was a Death Note parody with Bart finding the notebook and Krusty as Ryuk. It was done completely in black and white in an anime style. It was awesome.
I know it sounds weird, but I'm glad they went with Lisa finding the Death Note instead. Lisa, like Light, is very intelligent and wouldn't kill someone under normal circumstances. Having Lisa suddenly becoming a mass murderer for the "greater good" is surprisingly hilarious.
@@Rantandum To be fair, Bart only used the notebook once, to kill Sideshow Bob. The other deaths were simply because Marge was unknowingly using paper from the notebook to make a grocery list (all the creators of the food products die) or list people to invite to Bart's birthday party. Homer of course, was using it to write kill Flanders fanfiction. Lisa was introduced as a red herring to be L, but it actually turned out to be Ralph.
Considering that Death Note itself was heavily influenced by a Jump manga 20 years earlier called Wingman, in which the protagonist finds a notebook called "Dream Note" that can rewrite reality (he used the notebook to transform into the superhero Wingman) it's like multiple layers of parody at that point lol.

I can tell this is going to be amazing shows the commitment The Simpsons has to bringing different animation styles to its library
They need to see if they can get Trigger or Mappa or maybe even David Productions to do an episode.

Reminds me of that one episode of Treehouse of Horror years ago with Homer and Bart in 3D, or some of the differing animation styles done for couch gags!

Anime does nothing but copy, that's why it's so good. it isn't like members of The Party who call free movement of ideas "stolen property", but I can tell a few people who are exactly like that. People who steal bicycles because you know they ain't got no money or any property TO steal.

This ....this right here solidifies The Simpsons as the greatest cartoon ever made. I've never seen a collaboration at this level between a non-anime and one of the most iconic anime. Like....how did they do this???
The amount of cultural acknowledgement and incorporation that The Simpsons add into their show even after +30 Seasons is nothing short of phenomenal!

But like, Lisa's design actually looks good and looks so cool.
But seeing the Simpsons in this style and actually making it work is still so crazy to me that it's hard to believe.
I stopped watching the simpsons years ago, but when I heard about this, I absolutely had to check it out. Amazingly, it did not disappoint. Pretty damn accurate parody.

This is so cool. This is a great example of why The Simpsons have lasted so long. The creators aren't afraid to do different styles and step out of their comfort zone with the series.

@@TheBigKaiju, I looked it up. I think they did hire an anime animation studio to make this, but I kinda doubt it was the same studio for death note. The artstyle is a little different
But that's really interesting. Very interesting they went this extra mile just to get the visuals right and didn't just dress up the characters as the ones from death note
Fun fact: there's a good chance that this episode's concept actually stems from the simpson's comics. In fact, the only real similarity between the concepts is that Bart was the wielder of the Death Note and that he actually felt guilt using it. Also I don't think Krusty Ryuk was named Steve Johnson.
yeah, it's one of my favourite simpson comic stories. Hope this episode will be as good. Don't want this concept to end up like the futurama crossover.

I remember when Simpsons I'd a Deathnote parody in the comics and I genuinely hope they use more material from the Treehouse of Horror comics as future episodes ngl
A qoute that has forever stuck with me from that comic is Ralph saying "A-B-C-D Blue Five Cow!"
I hope the next "Treehouse of Horror Presents...", if they make the single story episodes an annual thing a week before the traditional 3-segment THoH episode, adapts "Krustine", the Christine parody from the comics.
The comic also had and IT story with Krusty as Pennywise.

I'm really hoping for a scene of classic deathnote 5-d chess mind games between bart and lisa where she's doing an elaborate "Hmm, he knows that I know that he knows, so I have to pretend I think that he doesn't know" in her head while bart has no idea and just happened to figure it out by coincidence.
And I mean, the L Barto jokes write themselves
This is pretty surreal and oddly works, though hearing Homer and Marge's voices come from their actual anime designs which no way appear as close to their cartoony or parody style works is definitely something.
I absolutely love how they translated the characters, especially Marge!
Is that actually supposed to be Bart? Seems to me like it's just meant to be a standalone Ryuk parody.

Steve Johnson in the clip is very reminiscent of Ryuk from the original Death Note manga/anime. I initially questioned if it was Bart as well because of the head shape, but the fact that the character's name isn't some pun involving Bart's own name and that the character (presumably) isn't voiced by Nancy Cartwright convinced me that Steve was his own character and not just anime Bart.

I don't think its Bart because if you look on the fridge in the kitchen scene there's a graded test that seems like it says Bart Simpson on the name line.

NGL, it does feel a bit weird to see anime style characters overly animated like a western cartoon, makes it feel off
Everything in this video was exceptional along with Ryuk having Steve as his name for this THOH episode.
I know it's not a new adaptation of death note but I want to see that parody inspired by DEATH NOTE and I hope that in the future they give us more things from the manga and anime in the world of the Simpsons and its parodies.
Anything from Junji Ito would work.

Animation is top-notch & glorious, but the writing... Anyone ever read the Simpsons comic that parodied Death Note years ago? The jokes were 10x better, they should have just turned it into a script instead of trying to get good material from the current writer crew.

What's funny is that your boss taking you out for drinks after work is pretty common in Japan. It's also seen as rude to refuse so Marge being proud actually makes sense in this situation. XD

If any of you are in school, pay homage to the Simpsons when they recite The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. When they say, "Quoth the raven," you yell in your best Bart Simpson, "Eat my shorts!"
This is up there with that first Treehouse of Horror.
And somehow still closer to the original storyline and better than the Netflix movie…lol…
When the SImpsons put in effort and actually do something like this then they can put out great quality work like they did back in the golden age from season 3 to 9

People keep getting it wrong, Madhouse is not involved in this project. DR Movie helped with backgrounds and some in-betweens in the original death note and they are the ones animating this. Hope this clears it up.

I find it very interesting when I see how long time characters get a different art style, and though the Simpsons are no stranger to such a thing (from Homer3, to Toy Gory, special mention to Brick Like me) this may be one of the Simpsons biggest shifts in art style in a long time and I am all for it!
That said I am not sure of the writing. I am fine with the story and a most jokes, but things like the plastic surgery bit (which is just 'we don't want to upset anyone' type of joke to me) kinda sours the bit for me... Though not enough to ruin it, but just feel like it could of been written better.
I am looking forward to this though, and may actually try to watch modern Simpsons just to see this episode! (...and a few other recent good ones I heard about).
