    I have two DJI Mic v1 kits, one of which I haven't used except for charging it. Most of the things I disliked have been fixed but the 3.5mm cable seems to be as unnecessarily short as before. I bought coiled replacements but it's something I know others have complained about and it would have been such a small thing to remedy. I bought the DJI Mics despite reports that the previous Rode system sounded better because everything else about the DJI seemed to suit me better. I'm actually quite surprised that Rode stuck to pretty much the same design in the face of how DJI had moved the user experience on.
    As for sound comparisons, I may be an exception but nobody who is going to listen to my audio is going to be an audio engineer or get an opportunity to compare what he or she hears with the same audio from another system. In my opinion, we spend too much time chasing goals that only we care about. One of the mics I use is a $300 Rode shotgun mic and nobody has ever walked out of a training video of mine complaining that I should have used a $1500 Schoeps. The reason is good enough is good enough. I'll buy whatever makes my life easiest in spite of the fact the quality of output may be 5% down on an alternative. Why? Because it's only by also experiencing the alternative side-by-side that a lay person - the only type of person I create for - would know.

      Yeah I totally agree. Especially for RUclipsrs, workflow trumps quality. Most people are listening to our videos on their smartphone speakers, holding it vertically... as long as there's not an echo or peaking it's "good enough."
      Of course, if I can improve quality without making the workflow harder, I'd do it in a second. But if I have to choose between very slight sound quality improvements and having internal recording backup or being able to see my levels, I'm not picking the sound quality.

    Thanks for the review. I've been using the DJI mic#1 for a year and the ISO record has saved me many times. I hired a pro sound opp with a full pro SQN mixer to record voxpops at an event with me. At certain times all he got was breakup and chaff due to busy frequencies (lots of crews/local wifi etc). I bought the DJI kic as a handy pocket backup and it lSO recorded perfectly. It also sounded less noisy and nicer than the pro kit which cost 10x as much!

    Seems like Mic 2 had the noise reduction turned on (yellow grid in the menu at 10:47) , that's why it performed better in the faucet test. However, this also makes it sound flatter. Did you try a test with noise cancellation turned off?

    As a motorcycle rider, the bluetooth connectivity to action cameras, is the best evolution I could have hoped for. With that, I’ll take the lesser sound quality of the DJI 2, when compared to the Rode Wireless Pro. I can fix the bass in post, and not having to wire up every single helmet I’m using, is a huge timesaver. First world problems…I know. Still, massive advancement by DJI, including the noise cancellation feature, which the Rode Pro doesn’t have. Good stuff! ….take my money…😂

If I use the same lavalier microphone, will the Rode have an audio advantage? 3. Does noise canceling work with the lavalier microphone? ps. Don't forget that the Rode comes with two lavalier microphones and that's cool. Thanks for answers!

    Great video! I love my Original DJI Mic set, but I may end up upgrading. I hate the plastic Cold Shoe mount on the original DJI Mic. Is the permanently connected on on the DJI Mic 2 plastic or Metal? Or a hybrid? I'm always afraid I'll break the cold shoe when mounting it on tight shoe mounts, like on my GoPro cage.

    • @fotosoldier
      @fotosoldier 8 месяцев назад +1

      It's still a plastic shoe on the Mic2, but the shoe on the Mic2 is thinner and shorter so it's way easier to mount and dismount the Mic 2-- So they solved the problem you're mentioning. I have both and just compared. I liked the black casing on the mic1 better than the clear plastic of the mic2, and i don't like that they put dji logos on the magnets of the Mic2.

      Glad I could help you decide, no matter which you pick! It sounded muffled to me listening on AirPod Max headphones... the lower-end is louder but it doesn't really have more dynamic range. Like, my VO mic has way more dynamic range and much better low-end but doesn't sound muffled. Either way if the Rode had the features of the DJI Mic 2 I'd choose the Rode, because the workflow actually means more to me than just the audio quality (given that the audio difference isn't that huge).

    I'm just on the fence which one to buy but on my professional studio monitors (Yamaha HS80m) I can clearly say that rode sounds ways better. DJI mic 2 has some muddiness to it (around the 250hz to my ears). The rode sounds more "open" and "pristine" and also have more bass (but this is not important for this comparison).
    Rode is the clear winner if we talk only about sound quality.

    • @ghostbond1074
      @ghostbond1074 8 месяцев назад

      Both do fine, it's not like the old days where one is atrocious.

      I hear the muddiness around there as well in this video but watched another where that didn't seem so bad. I do wonder if a better lavalier mic hooked to this could clear up any of these shortcomings. So far none of these wireless systems sound amazing and have kept me to using a non wireless wearable recorder along with decent lavs.

Maybe having add on firmware for more sound analytics you can see on the device or have it linked to your phone via an app, letting you see any distortions or peaks. Maybe having 3D print files for people looking to create their own case with different colors.

    The audio from the DJI Mic 2 is all over the place in this video. At 16:30 the DJI Mic 2 audio clips when you say the word "have" - was this clip using the Low-Pass Filter? The AI noise isolation? Both? Thanks for the demonstration. To be honest, I don't like the sound from any of the mics you demonstrated. I've even complained about using the Rode mics on another channel, he didn't like it and yanked the comment. I didn't say anything negative about the person, just the mic. I would say they are OK for recording a family picnic, but for professionals, they just don't make the cut for my ears. I listen with recording studio headphones so I have the quality needed to judge. Granted it's going through YT. That's not the best environment to pick something, a clean version is the more accurate way to determine anything, not through YT. In a way I think they are trying to make these mics sound like Bose speakers, the spaghettios of HiFi speakers.
    I watch your videos because of the quality information offered, not the audio which could be better. I only say this because how great you say these mics are. So let's just honestly disagree. At least they are cardiod mics. I think the best way to say what is happening is that these companies are selling to the masses who really don't know what good audio is. It takes years of learning or cribbing off of an expert. Also, for what these mics are in quality, they are over priced by at least a factor of ten. That is because quality mics are priced starting around this level, but you need to know what you are doing and how to use a mic. It's actually is more important than good lighting.

    • @TonyAndChelsea
      @TonyAndChelsea  8 месяцев назад

      Oh I get it. My VO mic is a Neumann TLM 103. But, honestly, audio quality mostly just needs to be "good enough" and workflow features like having a backup copy of the audio on each mic and levels I can see are overall more important for many types of videos we create. Keep in mind the vast majority of viewers are on their phones using their phone speaker.
      If there was another lav mic that offered drastically better audio, I'd happily switch. However, I've tested a bunch of lavs and they're all pretty similar, give or take subtle differences that most people wouldn't notice. But they'll never match my big Neumann.

    • @Original_Old_Farmer
      @Original_Old_Farmer 5 месяцев назад

      @@eddale5557 Believe it or not, this is my second attempt at writing this.RUclips's server crashed and took my epistle with it. I think you are a person that is very careful when doing things. That means your video and your audio will be more than just acceptable, if not superb. Røde mics I find more difficult to use, especially the wireless versions. In broadcasting, radio and television, you seldom will find a Røde system or even their mics used. It will either be more expensive microphones or less expensive.
      I believe you want to learn. Good. This takes time. At 73 years old, I still have pretty good hearing, but more importantly I trained my ear to hear the subtle differences in sound. Something like a piano tuner, but not quite the same. It annoys me that thousands of dollars are spent on video when audio is actually more important to most people. I could name channels. When I find one I will try to find an email to point something out, not in comments where it could be considered a negative statement.
      And yes, RUclipsrs can make equipment perform poorly. As a RUclipsr myself, I have made my mistakes. But, I am not trying put put a pristine video up. Just a bit of humble information. Keep learning. Thank you for your good comments. Be safe.

    One slight error. I would just forget "sound engergy" or "sound power" references in future reviews. Sound intensity, or Sound Pressure Level (SPL) is what's measured at a distance from a sound source. It changes with distance. Sound Power or Sound Energy is a measure of the total acoustic power or energy emitted from a source. It does not change with distance. Even though a 3dB change in power is a halfing or doubling of power, that's not what's measured at a distance, and not what you're looking at in the FCP analyzer. A 6dB change in Sound Pressure is a halfing or doubling of sound pressure. That's what the analyzer in FCP is looking at. If you double the distance from a source to a mic you will loose 6dB in Sound Pressure, and any meter will reflect that change. A 10dB change on the FCP analyzer (or any meter) indicates a generally accepted halving or doubling of percieved loudness (all other factors held equal...which, of course, the may not really be). Percieved loudness is typically measured by a change in SPL, not sound power.

    I so wish you levelled up the audio from your mic? One minute you're lower on audio the next (usually when you're leanings toward the camera) you blow my ears off. Surprised you thought this would be okay.

    Nice, but none of these companies have realized that the charging case must be able to accommodate everything! Including lav mics and deadcats. Insted they insist on us having to bring a case in a case in our camera bag.

      Yeah I'm pretty annoyed by that, too. If I use the lavs, which I usually do, I have to disconnect them, bundle them up, and put them in separate storage. Same with the deadcats and the analog audio out cable that goes to the camera. Ideally I'd like to keep the lav mics connected to the transmitters and have a way to charge and store everything - maybe there's a way to wind up the lav cord inside the charging case.

    • @cerl981
      @cerl981 8 месяцев назад

      @@TonyAndChelsea One idea on how to do that. Similar to what Justin mentioned above by getting a third party case the DJI case sits within and the accessories are all there attached to that.
      But the tricky part is keeping the lavs connected that will require some alterations to the case 😅
      Maybe by cutting a little hole somewhere on the front of the lid so the lav wire can come out, then having something on the third party case to wind it all up
      Maybe it would've been a good idea to have a flap similar to some cameras battery bay doors where it has a little flap door for a dummy battery cable to thread through so you can still close the battery bay
      Or better yet, have a lav that can retract on a little reel. Like those cheap earbuds

  • @WineWorldTV
    @WineWorldTV 8 месяцев назад

    While the combo package is cool. All I need is just the transmitter and maybe their lav. I can probably just use the lavs I already have. It would be a $40 cheaper option than the Neewer 32-bit float lav. Sync in post is trivial at this point so I don't see it as a negative.

Because video is definitely a different skill set. Light control, iso and of corse frame rate. The use of nd filters and learning sound engineering. For me my love is stills landscape/portraits. I started shooting film now I create little 10 min stories in 4k. I have struggled telling my stories using video. I used to tell a story with a single still.

    It’s a shame that you did this entire review and didn’t even showcase or test the higher sound quality Lavliers. What in the world? It’s an essential part of the package.
    I get it, you want to clip and go, but running one cable has so much more benefit if you care about sound quality, and/or natural sound isolation. Not to mention the Rode comes with the best Lav you can get before you start getting into the $1000-$1500+ Lavs. Odd choice to omit all around.

    the dji mic ... you can simply use it right away and it simply works ... and it is intuitive ... when you want the data of the transmitter, you just plug it into the pc ... and done... on the orde you try to do that then it will not work, you will download all software and curse as much as you can until you find out you have to put it into the loading case and then the loading case can connect to the pc so you can get the data from te transmitter. you need the app etc. i love the dji mic

      Compressors in post production can’t save audio that is clipping because the input gain on the pre-amplifier is too high - the unpleasant clipping artefacts will pass through and be compressed.
