I don't have a problem with firefighters doing this whole big thing for one of their fallen.
But I do have a problem with them doing it selectively.
If one firefighter gets this treatment, they all should get the same treatment.
If not, none of them should. It's really kind of messed up how they seem to get selectively honored.

The way to remedy that is to address it one case at a time. When you know of it happening (or not happening as the case would be), call the Fire Chief and/or the Mayor and specifically request a procession. If you are truly concerned about any inconsistency, complaining in a forum such as this is unlikely to bring about change. Another solution might be to contact your City Council Member & inquire as to whether or not a city ordinance exists regarding this issue. If not, ask what needs to be done to establish one. Good luck in your endeavor.

@@melindanorris8689 Thank you for your suggestions, Melinda. I understand your point about addressing each case individually and advocating for a consistent policy. My concern is that without a formal standard in place, these decisions can seem arbitrary and lead to feelings of inequity among firefighters and their families. I believe a state law or policy would ensure all firefighters are honored equally and would provide clear guidelines for these situations. I'll definitely consider reaching out to city/county/state officials to see how this can be addressed more systematically.
