    12:17 Delivery Man: "I thought you were in the Mafia." I wonder how many young folks would understand that reference today? Being Italian and Sicilian, I've heard a great deal about La Cosa Nostra, the Mafia; (Fia Mia), which used to be called La Mano Nera, or in English, The Black Hand. There were also the infamous Sicilian Mafia trials of the early 1960s. So, the delivery man's comment would have been easily understood in the mid-1960s.

    • @mythos2490
      @mythos2490 Год назад +5

      Yeah it’s one of the few shows that handles the “blackening skin” jn a far more respectful light
      It’s not on their face, they don’t use minstrel tropes, it’s not just there for shock value and it’s never there for a laugh like a lot of other shows that have episodes like this but with “blackface bad” as a cover up lesson.
      It’s weirdly nice how it came out of the 60s which was very divided on diversity. It’s nice to know there were real people back the using tv for good and to teach a lesson

      I don't know if it was common in the 60s anymore but there are many old shows (thinking about Tom and Jerry as example) where they would have used this opportunity to make racist jokes, this show didn't but used it to talk about equality instead.
