    You are welcome to ask any questions about the items for sale on my sales page, I will try to answer as soon as I can. Please understand that I can not take the time anymore to answer questions like "Do you think Mexican Fenders are better than Korean Epiphones" or "What's your favourite stompbox under $ 100?" and other general gear-questions. I understand that the casual and informal way of internet communication is inviting to ask anything you ever wanted to know about guitars. However, I get about 150 emails a day (!) just like these, it would take many hours each day just to respond to all these general questions. That is simply impossible to do. However, questions related to items on my inventory I'll try to answer quickly

    Gibson uses ceramic magnets for their current Fiirebird pickups which are a bit harsh sounding compared to the Duncan version.

      Duncan gas (or had) three different model levels of the SDM pickups.
      Lowest output to highest : SDM1, SDM2, SDM3. I wonder which version was installed here. I have a set of SDM3 in a Washburn Firebird style guitar. Those pickups off a full clean sound, but not quite sparkling, although they crunch up nice with some overdrive.

    I am curious which specific Seymour Duncan pickups this bird has? That tone is killer. I love everything about a Firebird except the pickups .

      ParadisWest
      Those are the Duncan faux-bird pickups.
      Many people criticise the Kent Armstrong Sky pickups for Firebird as being wrong because they’re twin rail mini humbuckers with a thick alnico 5 bar magnet sandwiched between the bottom of the blades under the coils ( wound to 6.2k) instead of alnico 5 magnets inside the coils. Guess what these Duncan’s are .... twin rail mini humbucker with ceramic bar magnet under the coils. Sound good yes. They sound awesome. More fans than Kent Armstrong ? Yes. But the Armstrong’s are even better because the wind is lower and the magnets are alnico 5.
      I have Duncan designed Nashville SSH telecaster set from a Squier Vibtage modified telecaster in one of my guitars. Guess what? The Firebird pickup in this set is a proper Firebird pickup ( wound a bit hot to 8.5k) with an alnico 5 Firebird magnet inside each coil. It’s better than these Duncan’s for sure.
      I would choose Kent Armstrong Sky last pickups over these because the Armstrong’s sound better and are cheaper.
      But better still get Aaron Armstrong to wind a set that are proper Firebird pickups, with the alnico magnets inside the coils, 42 gauge wire - I got a set and they are amazing. The bridge is wound to 7.2k and loses the tendency of the 63 Firebird pickups tendencies to being brittle sounding.

    How did you learn to play blues so fluently...... Serious question though

    • @GregsGuitars
      @GregsGuitars  4 года назад +12

      Decklan, just listen to players like Mark Knopfler (the old dire straits recordings), vintage Peter Green Stuff, Mick Taylor and try to learn these licks. Combine them with your own ideas - that’s what I did over the years. But I also learned a lot from the blues masters: B. B. King, Albert Collins, Mike Bloomfield - these guys are not THAT flashy and fluent - but they have the feel! wich is important!

      @@GregsGuitars thanks for the tip👍🏻👍🏻one more thing how do you get the timing of your licks so well, is that also just something that i pick up in listening to those guys.
