Bill, you're givin' me a good chuckle today. Every video, before it starts, I'm thinkin, 'Maybe this time he's gonna paint.' And you're not ready. Well, maybe this time? Nope. And my last video was titled, 'America The Slow'. Well, at least you have a better reason for taking your time than the rest of the country had.
Besides the “this door has earned the right to be here” statement (which is my favorite) that you made way back, you just gave one of the most important pieces of advice for the do-it-yourselfer so far. Don’t Be Scared. Keep it going, man. I’m enjoying every episode.
When my wife asks me what's to come after Christine, I think she's not asking because she's anxious for me to do ANOTHER project, I think she's ready for all of this to be DONE! LOL!
Good video Bill! End result is nice 👌 As a guy who's done a lot of caulking and painting I was saying to you peel it while it's wet Bill! The edges will lay down and you won't have a line towards the roof. Just my two cents. 😊
You know, this is why I don't represent a lot of my videos as "how to." They're really more like "what I done!" LOL! After doing this, I'm with you... it should be spread thin against the tape, and then ripped off like a band-aid before it tacks and gets stretchy like bubblegum on your shoe.
Another nessecary job that turned out well ... I'm eliminating that problem by welding steel rod in the gutters for that smooth look ... gettin close I can almost smell the paint ... mine was going to be solid red being it's a 150 ... I bought the Chevelle SS red paint 45 years ago for it ... but unfortunately it sat in a damp location and rusted out the can ... hate to see what it costs now ... at least you did'nt have to guide coat the gutters ... 😁
Interesting! Now I have to go check my drip rails!! ;) I'm with you on paint. My 56 was originally Turquoise and White. But in the 50+ years I have owned it, it has always been orange with a black top. So, I'm collecting photos of orange cars until I decide. One of my favorites is Lambo Orange. Hope the paint does not cost what the Lambo's cost!! ;) It does have some gold pearl in it though, so I might not be able to justify the cost. Keep up the good work. I look forward to Sundays!! :)
It's funny... when I painted the Cutlass, I specifically limited my choices to any Olds color from 1970-1972. It's a 71 with a 72 color. But when I went to order my convertible top, I didn't like the basic white. I hate to confess this, but the vinyl top is made out of.... FORD WHITE. I shake my head every time I think about it, but can't help but knowing that it was the absolute right color for the car. Now on Christine, I'm insisting on it being a Chevy color! Lambo orange? Hmmm.... LOL!
There are lots of orange colors out there. I also like Hugger Orange. But the Lambo Orange has some gold pearl in it, so it really looks classy. I don't want a show car, just a real nice looking 56. ;) Oh, and I use to mix paints, Coca Cola white is also a color Chevy used in the past. ;)@@RestoringChristine1956
Just for your knowledge you don't have to wait until it's dry after sealing seams I would remove the tape by peeling closer to the auto beyond straight up not straight out. By doing this it cuts like a knife while wet..peel closer to the panel see how you do.
I'm not sure what color I'm going to go with. I plan on taking my interior with me, along with my glove box door that still has the previous color on it to see what goes best.
I just looked at the Pull Me Over Red. Not for me. I will stick with the Matador Red. The PMO Red is just too dark for my liking. Plus, I like the way the original color can change shades at night under different kinds of light from street light. I am thinking it may be mercury vapor lights that do it. Great tip on the caulking gun modifications.
I just saw it on the chip before yesterday, when I spotted it on a brand-new Camaro. Holy cow. That Pull Me Over Red SCREAMS. I'm going to have to bring my interior parts to the dealership and see if I can get a full-bodied look at it before deciding.

I do remember that soap box moment! Figured it would resonate with someone!
I'm bringing my 56 4 door hardtop over next once you get Christine done lol! Let's keep the show going lol.

Took too long to pull the tape. You got about 2 minutes after tooling the seam sealer to pull the tape
