Jon needs to stop dismissing people, so far both assistants have gotten into trouble because they thought he wouldn't take them seriously without evidence.
Maybe he didn't expect anything would actually happen to them, or maybe he didn't expect them to care so much about what he thought? (Lowkey hoping it's the latter for angst and/or wholesomeness purposes. Wait, what am I saying? Both possibilities could be used for angst. :D)
Jon is probably being overly dismissive because much of the evidence that belongs with a file that’s been proven is missing from a ton of files that seem to have compelling leads, and only now is he believing because his team is being attacked.
He has taken both of them seriously though, especially Sasha. Tbf working in a job that deals with the paranormal, you need to be quite skeptical, if you just believed everything and took "feelings" as evidence, it would be a mess.
It's a small detail, but it's really funny to me that Tim is the one who pulls April Fools pranks on his coworkers when, in episode 11, Jon said Tim was the _only_ person he trusted not to be pulling a prank on him with the scary dream statement. Poor Jon. No wonder he has trust issues.

"You'll know him by all the bones in his hands." Episode 8. The narrator's father's last words because they were about to stop his "work" with fractals. Either its these creatures... or the bone turner. I DONT KNOW AND ITS KILLING ME.

A week or so before watching this episode I remember having a dream where a small silver worm burrowed into my leg. To say I'm a little disgusted is an understatement.
Reminds me of the terrible story I used to tell my neighbor friend's older sister about the "black worms" which functioned about the same way as the silver worms, but they were smaller, like hairs that crawl into your hair if you lie in the grass. I feel bad because we teased the older sister with this creepy tale, as she was disabled sort of, with prader willy. So even though she was older, maybe 14, she was mentally about the same age as us, around 11 (me) and 9 (her younger sister I was friends with) at the time back in 2002.

At the end of that episode, Jon was concerned because he'd had "intercourse with one of Jane Prentiss victims" soo I'm guessing that's a definite mode of infection.

Well, i spoiled myself before listening to this podcast and already knew who Michael was. And in that episode, when "not Gahram" appeared and they described how he looked i was like "that's him, thats Michael"
So far the flesh hive is the thing that's creeped me out the most. I don't like the thought of things under my skin. I could never get any piercings for that reason, and piercings that go under skin and not just through it(ear piercings are fine and lip and nose piercings don't really bother me but eyebrow piercings or ones that do across the bridge of the nose freak me out) make me feel uncomfortable to even look at or think about. Honestly, sometimes the fact that I have bones under my skin freaks me out. So the flesh hive freaks me out because that's playing into a fear of mine that's rather hard to escape.
Same here. Even month piercings are a no go or tunnels in ears. It doesn't bother me much in photos. But in videos and in person is worst. It's just that sight of something foreign moving inside a living person as they speak, emote, move around that makes my skin crawl. I can't even be friends with such people cause seeing them often is just too much.:'c
This made me feel a slow developing terror, like something was getting closer, right from the start, when they said the silver worms have followed Martin all the way to the Magnus Institute. I always assumed the office was like a fourth wall-all safe from the supernatural. The statement this episode proved me wrong.
"Seriously? If a member of the public came in you'd have torn that statement to shreds!" The second time a member of Jon's crew has put themselves in danger as a result of his critical nature. (The first was Martin, wanting to do a good job researching for Jon.) I wonder how he feels about it.
Re-listening, saw the title of the episode, and exclaimed "Oh, it's my boy!" for all the world to hear. God, Michael is such a fun and [SPOILER?] horrifyingly tragic character, I love them. A master of interior decor.
Same! lol 😄 Michael is my favorite entity/avatar/monster character. He’s so delightfully chaotic whenever he shows up, I adore his voice and his laugh, and his backstory breaks my heart. ❤️ (I love Helen too, don’t get me wrong, but Michael remains my favorite. 😊)
Pro tip from an avid fan: I quite enjoy the way I went about watching this series. It might sound a bit odd but I started at episode 91 because I had seen an animatic and it looks action packed enough to keep my attention longer then my first watching of the anglerfish. And then I kept watching, I started in the middle of the series and watched until I was caught up. Now I’m enjoying going back and watching the beginning to pick out all the little clues an stuff like our friend we meet here from a point of understanding. I’m not sure if this would ever work for any of you I just wanted to say I liked watching it this way.
This is my comfort TMA episode so far. Every once in a while, I come back just to read the comments and listen to the episode again. This podcast is amazing.
I'd just like to remind a few people (as I myself forgot this detail and remmberd it from searching his name in the transcripts) that Timothy Hodge was the one with the sexual incounter with Harriet Lee, the women infected with the parasite from the woman in the red dress/"flesh hive" .
I genuinely pictured Michael as a morph between Salad Fingers and Loser Candy (from Gravity Falls) and only realized recently after seeing some fanart that everyone else just pictured him as a hot dude with sharp hands and great hair.
Okay biggest take away is some weird creatures and paranormal are not malicious. Why Michael might not be good he did in fact help twofold even as he teached them how to fight worms and saved Sarah from infection . However I understand Jon concern on some thing that's clearly not human and apparently not caring if they die helping them for some unknown reason. After all this time investing traumatizing and/or murderous supernatural having one helping us strange as fuck.
I think he does it just cause they r probably fighting a common enemy or either he has some kind of benefit from helping. Maybe he wants them to discover smt..
I love rewatching this after already knowing answers to most mysteries of the show. Michael's remarks of "You can't even imagine what's going on". So good.
Okay, so this is very stupid, but I heard "fire extinguisher", registered it as such, and then proceeded to think it was a flamethrower (with CO2 and zero flame for some reason) for the rest of the episode, right until I heard Jon talking about getting CO2 fire extinguishers for the Institute, at which point I registered the thing for what it was again and realised what a goof I've been. Like wtf, dude xd Also, I'm a big fan of sympathising Jon. The way he talks to Sasha at the end radiates great sadness at the thought of her leaving. I hope to see more of this side of him.
possible spoilers . . . . . . . . "Also, I'm a big fan of sympathising Jon. The way he talks to Sasha at the end radiates great sadness at the thought of her leaving. I hope to see more of this side of him." "now i see you." "it is remarkably easy to buy an axe in central london."
Yeah. Jon clearly puts Sasha just below him on the hierarchy tree. He's the head archivist, and she's the assistant archivist; but, they're both Archivists. While Martin gets relegated to archival assistant: bottom of the totem pole below Sasha and Tim.
As some that's finished the series I'll say that Jon cares very deeply but constantly has difficulty expressing that to others. It's part of the tragedy that few people really understand how _much_ Jon cares.
Micheal reminds me of Not Graham and the weird long creature she kept watching. Both were blond too, but they had pictures of Not Graham so I'm not too sure about that.
Prior to consuming this series, I got spoiled by one animatic about A Distortion kind of title and before that, I wasnt sure if I wanted to try out this podcast (as I found Jonathan Sims from Slay the Princess) but after seeing the animatic, i got incredibly curious and I relented. When I saw the title of his episode, I was extremely giddy at a familiar name. Wish me luck on this first ever consumption of The Magnus Archives!
... ah, Sasha. I know, I know it most likely wouldn't have changed anything. She was on the radar of those things now either way, they would never leave her just be. But maybe, if she had taken that offer and went away, maybe she would have been deemed "not important enough". And then, just maybe... Well, it doesn't matter anymore I suppose.
Unfortunately, none of them _can_ quit. Even running away isn't an option as Tim later learns. Not sure if the Distortion knew this or not. It _IS_ lies after all.
Listen. I ship Sasha and Michael. One day this will be the story of their first date. "The stalking wasn't cool, but then I joined him for coffee, we met up later and he showed me how to slay an evil parasitic enemy, and then saved me from gruesome infestation. The rest is history."
From what it sounds like, Martin is THAT guy. You know those signs that say, "Its been x days since incident y has happened." Martin seems to be the type that makes x go to 0. "It would be Martin." Just accident prone.
(Minor spoiler. Beware). ----- I am on my first re-listen and I cannot believe this episode was actually called "A Distortion". It could have been named THE Distortion as well, why go for less😅
Ok so I think the "vampires" from earlier may actually be mature versions of those wormlike things and they reproduce and mature after being placed in a host (such as the young woman from Writhe) very similarly to how parasitic wasps (the ones that made Charles Darwin stop believing in God) reproduce. I will return to this if my theory has viability. I don't mind spoilers so if someone's back here on a rewatch please tell me if I'm on the right track
@@AdriftInTheWatersGorge oh that series was pretty good for the gross out factor, but as it stands the vampires and the worms are in fact two separate types of monster, which was a little disappointing
the biggest relevant thing i can think of is the sheer amount of extant worms, and the reportedly small population of vampires, makes me doubt it, unfortunately because that would be fucking terrifying and i love the idea
All the first-time listeners comments about Sasha being too curious for her own good... ⚠️Spoiler: Little did they know that it's both a prerequisite and supernatural effect of working under the Beholding's gaze. But this episode is why I don't think Sasha would have done much better as The Archivist. She got herself killed by happenstance but put herself in an even worse situation here than Jon did in season 3.

This is my first go-round & YES that was my first thought. Michael's description matches that of "Not-Graham"!
I love that Jon believes Sasha without a doubt that's honestly just very sweet to me, especially since he is a bit of a hard ass
I can't even be friends with such people cause seeing them often is just too much.:'c
oh dammit now im acutely aware of my eyebrow piercing

i miss sashas voice but also FIRST MENTION OF MY BOY FUCKHANDS
This made me feel a slow developing terror, like something was getting closer, right from the start, when they said the silver worms have followed Martin all the way to the Magnus Institute. I always assumed the office was like a fourth wall-all safe from the supernatural. The statement this episode proved me wrong.
😂
Reminds me of the thing that followed Graham in ep3... The most striking similiraty is it's ability to appear sympathetic...
Oh that's where I rember the tall blond from, notgraham

"Seriously? If a member of the public came in you'd have torn that statement to shreds!"
The second time a member of Jon's crew has put themselves in danger as a result of his critical nature.
Same! lol 😄
Michael is my favorite entity/avatar/monster character. He’s so delightfully chaotic whenever he shows up, I adore his voice and his laugh, and his backstory breaks my heart. ❤️
(I love Helen too, don’t get me wrong, but Michael remains my favorite. 😊)
Pro tip from an avid fan:
I quite enjoy the way I went about watching this series.
All my love for consuming media in the "wrong" order, if it works for you, don't ever let someone shame you for doing something unconventionally
lol same here! I watched episode 90 first then got hooked so I watched the whole thing in order

This is my comfort TMA episode so far. Every once in a while, I come back just to read the comments and listen to the episode again. This podcast is amazing.
Jon: “I need to know”
SON YOU GOT A BIG STORM COMING
I'd just like to remind a few people (as I myself forgot this detail and remmberd it from searching his name in the transcripts) that Timothy Hodge was the one with the sexual incounter with Harriet Lee, the women infected with the parasite from the woman in the red dress/"flesh hive" .
Welcome to The Magnus Archive ft. Salad fingers
😂
I genuinely pictured Michael as a morph between Salad Fingers and Loser Candy (from Gravity Falls) and only realized recently after seeing some fanart that everyone else just pictured him as a hot dude with sharp hands and great hair.
@@awarlockunkindlyborn1353 i sorta pictured him as a late-stage other mother ( like from coralline) but a blonde guy

@@melissaharris3389 okay, sasha didn't axe the table. she's a solid case of wrong place, wrong time
Why is no one commenting about the fact that Michael took Sasha out on a coffee date?? That’s so weirdly human it’s endearing. God get a room you two.
Where’s her sense of survival? Like she complained about Martin, like what about her 😭
When i picture Michael for some reason the image of distorted Jesus from the Mandela catalog pops inti my head
YEAHHH MICHEAL HAS BEEN INTRODUCED!! im so hyped ive heard abt him for a while, hes one of the reasons i started listining
Hey i *just* noticed that michael doesn’t ask if she wants to save her *own* life.
I love rewatching this after already knowing answers to most mysteries of the show. Michael's remarks of "You can't even imagine what's going on". So good.
coming back to this while halfway through season 5 hurts more than at should

Micheal!! Ugh how I missed this podcast. I love the funky tall spiral blonde man
Okay, so this is very stupid, but I heard "fire extinguisher", registered it as such, and then proceeded to think it was a flamethrower (with CO2 and zero flame for some reason) for the rest of the episode, right until I heard Jon talking about getting CO2 fire extinguishers for the Institute, at which point I registered the thing for what it was again and realised what a goof I've been.
Like wtf, dude xd
Also, I'm a big fan of sympathising Jon. The way he talks to Sasha at the end radiates great sadness at the thought of her leaving. I hope to see more of this side of him.

the descriptions in this episode got me so good... I've never been squeamish but I gagged a few times while listening to this!
Inch resting how Martin's "archival assistant" and Sasha's "assistant archivist"
I never noticed that before! Well spotted! 😃
Yeah. Jon clearly puts Sasha just below him on the hierarchy tree. He's the head archivist, and she's the assistant archivist; but, they're both Archivists. While Martin gets relegated to archival assistant: bottom of the totem pole below Sasha and Tim.
They just released another episode and now I'm getting anxious because I'm so far behind. Fhbfbdrh
Saaame. Honestly I just started a few weeks ago, and I’m desperately trying to catch up!
Yeah same, I just started a couple days ago and I can't go anywhere without getting spoiled :(
This is like the first time we hear the emotion and concerns from the narrations enter Jon’s normal speech, he clearly cares about his coworkers.
As some that's finished the series I'll say that Jon cares very deeply but constantly has difficulty expressing that to others. It's part of the tragedy that few people really understand how _much_ Jon cares.
Also, oh hey, first sighting of the Door Man.
URM GUYS? DIDNT SHE SAY THAT ONE OF THE WORMS GOT AT HER? GET HER MEDICALLY CHECKED JONATHAN!
Relistening to this after 101 makes me sad :(
bless. i hope we see more michael
I just got a Michael's ad in front of this episode
You're in for a ride
Poor Timothy. He burned down his own apartment to try and stop the worms and he still got infected (and then died horribly)
"It's just a scratch".... Oh, Sasha
This is fucking hilarious. Gosh, I hope your second listen was even more delightful than your first.
Sasha is my favourite of the assistants.
she is cool
I’m gonna stop eating my spaghetti now thank you
I was trying to figure out where I've heard the name Jane Prentis before. She was the lady in the red dress in episode 6 squirm
This is getting so much better omfg I see why there's so much hype
All it's bones are in it's hands.
Is Sasha not getting treated for that?
Nah just the thought of a worm chilling inside Sasha without her knowing makes me sick😨😨 "Michael" clearly is a weird fella but I'm glad it did that
22:07 I mean, think about it. If _that_ is your friend, just try to imagine what's your enemy. Thats unsettling if you ask me.
Prescient comment.
jon why do you hate Martin so much??
Ikr???
I honestly don’t think he hates him at all- Jon seems like a prickly guy who doesn’t like expressing how he really feels about people.
he has a crush and doesn't know how to deal with it
From what it sounds like, Martin is THAT guy.
You know those signs that say, "Its been x days since incident y has happened." Martin seems to be the type that makes x go to 0. "It would be Martin."
Just accident prone.
Cause he let a dog lose in the archives 😅
Until 11:19 I swear I was convinced this was another vampire case omg.
"I generally avoid horror" Sasha you work at a place where you search for horror
Sasha, dear, have you read any of the statements?
Canon doesn't go that direction, but that would have been horrifyingly fascinating. One could argue that canon doesn't outright contradict it, either.
@@FH-rp6zs yeah, I'm back now the whole series was a ride!
@@someoneawesome8717 the way you said this made me think of the tv series "The Strain" 🤢

20:51 CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT
Satisfaction brings The Archivist back.
All the first-time listeners comments about Sasha being too curious for her own good...
⚠️Spoiler:
Little did they know that it's both a prerequisite and supernatural effect of working under the Beholding's gaze.
But this episode is why I don't think Sasha would have done much better as The Archivist. She got herself killed by happenstance but put herself in an even worse situation here than Jon did in season 3.
Michael seems chill, that was quite helpful.
I love how Michael has suddenly become everyones favorite monster boy(friend). lmao. I hope he remains a friend 😅
